Genuine question, why are the Vermintide devs spending so much time developing versus?
I have done developing myself, and Vermintide is a great game to play with friends, but right now I can’t understand the direction of development and most resources being spent on a PVP mode in a PVE game, that maybe 5 to 10% of the player base plays.
Devs, be smart and start making more interesting stories/game modes. Currently, nothing is being hyped up for a next map/gamemode, etc.
Also, numbers don’t lie. Steam charts playerbase keeps dropping. The current development isn’t working.
Note that I don’t play Vermintide 2… even if I would like.
But this game is old now. Graphics are not great and also, but here that’s totally a personal opinion, the game itself needs a refoundation.
I agree with you about PvP for a PvE game. In the darktide forum a poll has been made… and the result is what you think.
Actually, I waited them on a Vermintide 3, or a new name for a successor. Must say that a game that would be Vermintide with elements of Darktide would be great. Careers have to be kept, this is the essence of Warhammer fantasy. But I think the restricted use of character (each player can incarnate one character defined for this mission) is something that should be changed. And there’s a lot of things they could make them better in a new game…
To be fair, the poll is as expected. But that might be exactly the point.
Unless there is some weird viral irl occurrence, Vermintide 2 likely has all the PvE players it is going to get. There won’t be a new large influx of players.
They might be doing all this on purpose to tap into an audience they don’t already have.
Whether or not that is a wise decision remains to be seen. But it is an understandable one.
Several reasons, and these are the ones I’m sure of:
To keep the promise that was made in 2019 when it was first announced.
There’s a portion of the player base that is interested in PvP.
But what the true reasons are, only Fatshark knows, and we can only speculate. Personally, I’m very happy that the PvP mode has been revived; having the possibility to play from a completely different perspective makes me eager to dive back into VT2 with great pleasure.
As someone who is absolutely passionate about VT2, I tend to agree; a nice graphical update would be great.
I completely disagree, and it’s one of the main reasons why I can’t get into Darktide (besides the fact that my computer can’t handle it :c). In Darktide, the characters we play are essentially nobodies: they lack personality, have no background (the little that exists during character creation is easily ignorable because it has no tangible impact), and there’s an absence of bonds between teammates.
Literally, there’s no difference between one character and another—they all seem like carbon copies in a game where the narrative aspect is still very lacking, preventing the created characters from standing out. (Which makes a lot of sense in the 40K universe, considering we’re essentially cannon fodder thrown into a minor planetary skirmish, microscopic in the eyes of the Imperium.)
Even in Vermintide, you play as a “nobody” compared to the rest of the universe, but these five nobodies are masterpieces of writing. Aesthetically, they are meticulously crafted and perfectly embody the inspiration that is Warhammer Fantasy, but that’s not all; each has a well-defined personality, with their own ideas, thoughts, backstory, and ways of interacting with the environment, etc. Every single line they deliver is well-placed and never wasted, and every interaction is carefully thought out. They feel like real people you can grow attached to, be indifferent to, or even hate intensely.
The stories of Vermintide are told through their voices and actions, supported by a fantastic narrative framework provided by the environment of the maps, each capable of evoking different emotions in each of them, varying by class. The same character can exhibit different behaviors depending on the selected class (look up “Vermintalks” on YT to hear their dialogues), and the results are often quite comedic (like Victor crying when he discovers his best friend has become French). The reason the story and narrative aspect of Vermintide work so well is precisely because there are preset characters made specifically for this world; without them, the game would likely be much more boring (at least for me).
I really like versus, but I have to agree, coop should be the main.
If they are looking for new players, I would sell the Versus cheap, as separate game, and free for those who have vermin 2.
I think we NEED in coop vermin:
2 more monsters.
Stop enemies spawning in our backs.
Demons, big, normal, and little ones.
New illusions for weapons.
A bit of random on each level (3 versions of each map, where 2 or 3 things change, like a door position, etc. Like it happens in some maps, where the bridge door is closed, so it adds surprise to players).
And I respect that. That’s my main reason why I don’t like VT2.
But, as I don’t play it and you play it, your opinion is surely more important for this game than mine.
Darktide has also that… and more voice lines than VT2.
I will agree here. To be fair, I don’t care of the story. Don’t know how VT2 is played, but in DT players rush maps, never wait etc.
Then I hope you can understand that the story is not my main concern.
But I’ve read a lot in the VT2 forum (yes I do that sometimes), and I can understand your point of view that is shared across the VT2 community… at least it is what I feel.
DT has also meticulous produced cosmetics… this is just they sell them 20€ each set…
(nota: I hate their cosmetic policy… supported them at first, now I only take a cosmetic if REALLY I have fallen in love of the set… so really rarely).
Did not know. Then that’s great that they fullfil promises. I hope they will do the same with Dartktide (we still wait for solo mode)
Don’t worry… at the end it will be also on Xbox and PS.
Returning on OP first post: Still, VT2 is 6 years old… maybe a refresh, or better a new game, would be great.
I can imagine with daemons, there’d be the Lesser Daemons who’d be something along the lines of Elites…Big would be larger lesser daemons like Flamers Fiends or Plague Toads…
I have always wanted to see alternatives to Rotbloods. Marauders, Chaos Warriors, Berserkers, etc. in the other gods flavours.
