Unlocked & Loaded - Psyker Concerns

First I have to say I absolutely loved reading most of the stuff about the upcoming update! Just so much good stuff I can’t even go into them or this would take forever. :joy:

But… Looking at the huge number of new psyker talents & blessings I must voice my concerns. There was so much stuff with absolutely massive buffs to peril efficiency, Soulblaze, toughness regen, dmg, failsaves for blowing yourself up etc. Just, SO much! Yet the other classes mostly just got a few fine tunings with many talents even getting nerfed.

Ofc it’s far too early to say anything for sure. But as a main psyker of 2 since release and knowing full well how crazy strong they already are? I definitely got the impression that they want to seriously drag down the notoriously high psyker skill floor, making them more accessible & easy to play.

That’s great for the new and casual players ofc, I don’t mean to take away from that! But. Given how OP that will make psykers for us veterans of the class, there’s only one way this ends: Massive nerfs to their core toolkits. Way more than just losing the infinite dodge on Force Swords like before.

I really hope I’m wrong here, and the actual talent paths and available builds won’t get as insane as it looked.

I would argue that this already happened for the patch 13 Psyker update.

But forgoing my usual rants on Psyker I would agree with your assessment. I’m really happy the Psyker tree is finally getting some extra talents to spice things up but I’m not sure I’m very happy in the way they’ve done it.

A lot of this stuff I feel like we might have to wait and see, but Soulfire and Purgatus look (even more) absolutely disgusting and I don’t understand what the thought process was going into that.

Honestly I think the lack of nodes actually is what made psyker easy to “multi class” with. By adding so many nodes I feel like you may not be able to grab all the same talents that you wanted. That was a complaint about veteran for awhile.

We’ll see what it looks like though. It’s why it’s usually better to have the talent trees be wide vs long.

The new tree is wider (2 new clusters of nodes, one on each side) and there don’t appear to be any areas where new talents are required to progress down the lanes. The additions to the bottom of each lane are just alternate picks alongside what was already there.

The new tree: https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/flex013/uploads/fatshark/original/3X/3/2/328ff0e6606d395114877e824bf0beaa79927f4a.jpeg

This should have been consider with all classes. I would rather see more talents spread out as options you “can” take instead of “have to” take as you progress through the skill tree. I appreciate this might result in more balancing headaches.

Stuff like toughness regen on soulblaze kill is interesting, but frankly it will make already broken (in OP way) staff soulblaze and crit builds even more powerful. The same applies to the new talents which lower the peril generation and prevent the blow out.

I do agree with Elodie

Die hard psyker main here, Scrier’s Gaze Gun Psyker to be frank. It is already strong and I fear that with another 10% attack speed and 100% more cleave based on peril… I mean… geeeeez…

Same for all the rending soulblaze stuff.

Seems like the person who designed the first version of Sister of The Thorn is in charge of the “new and improved” psyker tree too.

Don’t get me wrong the new passives and stuff sound interesting and they are. Just tune them down a notch… make it 2% stacks rending on soulblaze and make it 50% more cleave based on peril. Please…

Welp.

Thanks for the shotguns though, they really offer some interesting builds on Gun Psykers.

Yeah I have super mixed feelings about those too, especially on top of the other buffs. x.x

As a psyker main, and a die-hard shotgun fan on vet & zelly, I’ve been waiting for this day forever. And yet, a psyker with just True Aim would potentially break the game with those. Not to even mention what happens with Scrier’s & DD on top! You wouldn’t even need Scattershot for the crits anymore like on the others.

I suspect True Aim will nerfed from stack-per-hit → stack-per-attack very soon.
