Underwhelming looking update

Yeah coming back to this thread i think it’s all relatively lined up but ill recap what i said previously with some new context and readjusting how I feel regarding some stuff.

The Good

Stims: These are cool, after playing with them they are a lot of fun to pop on yourself or teamamtes and absolutely hammer things down during fights. Some stims are much more standout than others but having a speed stim with a heavy attack weapon is great.

New mission: Well made mission, lots of fun encounters, great music, great set pieces, great looking. I like the overall feel of the mission and wrecking the production tanks feels great after fighting through the ambush area. It is one of the best looking missions IMO and gives great cyberpunk city vibes similar to stuff like EYE: Divine Cybermancy and more Dirty Cyberpunk mixed in with the neon streets.

Vet Tree Rework Pt 2: Keystone Drift : Vet rework is pretty good, it’s now on part with other class trees and you have enough flexibility to make some unique builds. Now you can actually get toughness or survival skills with your keystones so it’s not all or nothing if you say go mostly on the left tree which is nice. I think a few more useless keystones could be combined and some tax nodes adjusted but im far more happy than i was expecting

The neutral

More Weapon Marks: I’m about 50/50 on the new weapons. Some feel good in the meat grinder but i haven’t been able to roll a new weapon to actually try it. Some of them feel good but the content we got still fees very bland compared to say a melta gun or a more exotic weapons. The chain weapons feel pretty good but have some odd stuff going on with swing speed and combos.

The new shovels could be great but i need to you know, actually roll them, we’ll come back to that.

New combat encounter: Yeah this feels like the most mid encounter ever. Most of the time they either show up and get evaporated or they pick a bad time during the horde and turn into a major nuisance. I was expecting a bit more engagement with how they play but the feel just…really unsatisfying to fight.

One is a trapper idea but their traps are often in super predictable spots instead of spread out over an area and the other is just a rehash of the other bosses with faster speed and always in charge mode. If one of the twins could like pick a player up and slam them or throw them or something it would be neat. These enemies look like they tower over my tallest human character so i feel like they should have some good command grab ability.

On top of that flighting them is unrewarding, they are just another resource drain that doesn’t drop anything after

Intrigue: Still meh on this. Was tempted to bump it down to the bad but im kind of too apathetic to really care. So far it seems like it’s going exactly how people predicted and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to result in some major shakeup of the story so im just a little “meh” on it. Maybe it will throw a curveball but as far as what people have shown through spoiler content it’s meh.

The Bad

Crafting: Oh look, the crafting has become a major pain in the ass, again.

I feel like someone must have made an eldritch deal where if they remove the awful crafting system then their first born child turns into a sentient crab or something. Bunch of resources spent, bunch of resources wasted, 1 370 for the new weapons, basically instantly bricked along with all my resources. At this point what can i really say besides look all all the new additions to the crafting memorium and #BreakTheLocks.

New protentional bugs likely not getting fixed till after the new year: Yep, the god dam fire bug is really great ain’t it? I sure do love touching 1 pixel of fire and watching 2/3rds of my hp just go up in smoke. I get they were trying to fix the fire stuff but this is just silly. It’s gone from “well toughness is broke but you at least have hp” to “Ha ha, die” which gets annoying especially on stuff like shock trooper gauntlet.

All and all im probably going to just go play the Starship Troopers Extermination update coming out today because they are also adding new stuff and i don’t need to play a slot machine just to try something new, i can literally just go and play it. I guess it’s time to wait what, another 6 months to see if we get something worth playing? Terrific.

New bosses are fun. New map is okayish. Stimms seem pretty minor to me, though the health one can be nice sometimes. I like the new revolver. That sums up my thoughts about the update.

Ive uhhh finally played the update

It’s pretty good for a dt update

The map is the best we have so far really appreciate with new maps not just being like the ones we launched with a feel a lot more the best maps of v2. They aren’t resting on their laurels.

Vet tree update is great they actually listened to the community this time round a lot of the issues of the tree have been addressed allowing for the ability to have fun with builds. The only real issue now just being the auras having one actual pick and 2 meme picks and a few perks being meme picks (a 20% chance for an extra grenade is way too inconsistent to be an actual pick).

Weapons, meh. Nothing here interests me especially with the god awful crafting system to make one of them actually worse using over what I currently have. Can we get actual new weapons sooner rather than later.

Karnak twins. I’ve only encountered the sword wielding one so far (3 times in a row)
Happy to see it’s not just a recycled assassination target but an actual boss. It’s nice to have an actual boss encounter at the moment that actually feels like a threat compared to current bosses (assassinations targets) and mini bosses that have become a complete joke now. Very interested to see what happens them next week.

Stims, just a completion of tide sandbox finally coming to dt along with basic mechanics of being able to give stims and kits to other players.

Balance changes, fire is a cool idea of a change but it’s rate of stacking hp deletion is insane right now. Glad some issues with trappers are addressed with staggers, but their quantum phase technology with friend or foe detection on their webbers need to be taken away.

General thoughts as the update as a whole as a long term addition. The only real sort of things that really adds to the game to the game for me are the stims adding to dt’s gameplay as a whole and veteran having an actual solid skill tree to work with rather than a mess. The new weapons are kinda mid to me I’m not really interested by shovels in a franchise with power weaponry and chain weapons and I prefer rifles over pistols and I can’t really be stuffed rolling for the new chainsword because crafting is still awful.

As said the main thing that needs to come to dt in future updates is additions that add to general gameplay of the game as a whole
So actually new weapons (this is 40k they have so much to pull from)
Enemies (see above)
Most importantly a crafting overhaul the game has needed this for the last year, this needs to be addressed asap
Make the store not awful for everyone including fatshark themselves
Expand on cosmetic customisation, for the drip proves armour colour, pattern and texture customisation is possible in dt instead of selling us lazy full priced reskins, sell us colours and patterns we can freely use on all armours.

i quite like the 20% change for 2 grenades the perk have some small niche use cases, consider this
if you go middle tree build toughness replenishment support tank veteran, you will have quite a few perks left over, and the chance to easily pick up perks that increase damage to bosses
krak grenades to a ton of damage to bosses
you can get up to 3 krak grenades, grenades replenishing over time, and being able to replenish grenades from an ammo crate makes for some really funny grenade spam builds
sure 20% chance to throw an is like a 1 in 5 chance, most of the time this will be useless
you might get lucky, and get a pack of crushers, and randomly throw 2 grenades to take 2 out at once
but for bosses, well. you might as well just spam out as many grenades as you have, and if you have an ammo crate you can replenish your grenades, so big boss spawns half way through mission, pop down an ammo crate, throw 3 grenades
replenish grenades, and throw another 3 grenades, boss die, boss die hard, boss die very fast and very hard
you just threw 6 grenades at the boss, and at that point you more then likely got a 20% trigger at least once, maybe twice during that if your super lucky
quicker the boss dies, the less the boss damages your team, which is good

you can do a similar thing with the one mission that has the boss at the end, however, since it is the end of the mission, you can be a dirty little ammo goblin and pick up the ammo multiple times in a row, letting you throw 15 grenades in a row + the 20% chance for double, averaging out to be about 18 grenades in a row into the bosses face
if nothing it is very amusing but i get your point, most of the time the perk wont be doing too much to help you, if you get a 20% double throw trigger on a single crusher, well. one grenade was already going to kill it, kind of pointless

it was very underwhelming nothing to earn no new cosmetics for the commissary or penances just shovels endless damn shovels and clutter they should not encourage people to use the “crafting” system its worse then awful

It’s gonna be a full year before we see new free cosmetics with new penances or commissary.
It’s been 7 months since we got the last set.
