Tune in at Skulls

Sure… if we consider class rework as content

They reworked their game lot of times. We have got:

  • skill tree, great addition adding so much gameplay
  • new weapons: bolt pistol, shock maul, relic blade, force greatsword, pickaxes
  • new variants
  • new enemies: dreg bomber and scab operator (ok this one is so rare…)
  • auric board then havoc then mortis trial

Let’s not compare this with Helldivers 2 that got so many new weapons, an entire new faction etc.

I love Darktide… I love it too much. But content is a problem with them. A DLC class, or a free class. I take… but not a pet class. Stupid in warhammer 40k. I don’t see how you can build a tree with 3 abilities and 3 keystones for this…
I rather prefer ratling! But even anything.

However, if it is that… well it would just be a new signal that the game goes in a different direction that what I would want. Not a big deal. There are different games…

As I said, I expect 2 maps in the hourglass (we see a scene where the team seems to have to go through the vents in the Hourglass, but in opposite direction), several weapons for veterans and 1 or 2 skill tree revamp (veteran and/or zealot).
But if they deliver a good new archetype… I would be really happy. That and a solo game mode…

How so ?

I may be a little too categorical

For me, it does not make sense to create this archetype in priority of a lof of other better existing warhammer 40k roles.
It fits really a fantasy game. And there are such careers in Warhammer fantasy. So it makes sense in VT2.

I don’t see how it can be the best choice for warhammer 40k.

Is it me or everyone is drunk on this new Class idea?
This teaser represents almost nothing, except a menace, low to the ground, for the cultists.

What about a new faction acting as a third party?

Exactly… and I would say… as usual with Fatshark.

Cause 3 way fight aren’t really that likely…

It’s a possibility but I like the idea of 3-way battles even less. They did that in AFTE (actually had 3 factions that all hated each other) and the novelty was quick to wear off. It just slows things down. A new faction would be great, especially the daemons or Noxians who are already in the warzone and at least loosely allied with the 6th, but if they are going to serve to slim down the complexity of enemy composition rather than increase it, it feels like a misstep to me.

I guess we’ll see on Thursday.

Tbh I think that Daemons shouldn’t really be treated as a new faction, but rather just as part of the Dregs.

So you wouldn’t need equivalent for Poxwalkers/Groaner, Bruisers, shooters…, and instead can concentrate on roles where the Daemons would shine.

And end up with:

  • Poxwalker: High Elite, Dreg equivalent to Ogryns\Crusher
→ Bilepiper: Special, no Scab equivalent
→ Sniveler: High Elite, Ranged, Dreg equivalent to Ogryns\Reaper
    → Poxbringer: Lord/Assassination target

I don’t really think a shielded one need to exist tbh.

As for Noxian, I don’t think we even know what they are (if you mean the enemies on Nox Alpha).

Also go hard, people like.

Worth weight in rashuns

Sure but if you get enough units it kind of counts as a new faction. After all, unlike VT2, perks aren’t split up via faction but by armor type or role so we don’t really have to worry about faction delineations in gameplay outside of penance chasing.

I think poxwalkers and groaners are fairly ubiquitous and would serve as the horde element for any allied faction. So we wouldn’t need swarms of nurglings or anything like that.

And, yeah, we don’t know what the “Noxians” are but they are definitely out there and are conquering planets on their way toward Atoma. Of all things to show up at any given moment, they make the most sense. Perhaps they are better off staying mysterious and just being a narrative piece, but being a (most likely) minor xenos race, would give Fatshark a free hand to introduce some really inhuman baddies.

Honestly I was surprised it was more than the usual ‘they’re coming…no wait, they’re here! garbled enemy noises’ schizoid radio chatter they decided was teaser-worthy content for the last 10 or so times. Having like 10 seconds of pre rendered footage is indeed an improvement over ‘the good ol plasma gun’.

I think we had a mini-trailer last year for Clandestium Gloriana, didn’t we? Where Swagger goes to pay off the Water Cartel guys but shoots them?

And we had one for Mortis Trials. And Havoc. And Unrelenting Hordes event. And the train mission/Unlocked & Loaded. And Sister Hestia. And the Orthus Offensive. And the Carnival addition. Among others.

I liked the Vox intercepts just fine when they weren’t fibbing but they haven’t done one for 6 months now. I wonder if they ran out of pre-recorded lines and perhaps went in a different direction than they initially planned? Or maybe they got caught up in the VA strike? I know they pulled at least one of the previous Vox intercepts when all that started going down.

Here’s a poingant quote from a year ago. (Last year’s skulls). Which I thought was just slightly worse than the previous year where we at least finally got the spawn and 2 maps. Seems apt to prepare to be whelmed, if even that much. There was stuff about a board game and we could had a kill counter. Oh and buy premium-est stuff again. What a time to be a Darktide player Skulls 2024 was.

Adeptus Arbitres Enforcer would make sense

Pet class - Blitz abilities could represent different guided attacks. One against trashmobs applying bleed and/or focusing on stagger crowd control, one against single target armored enemy, and one yolo bomb of destruction which also makes your pet temporarily unavailable or something like that

They also used pet mechanics in Siennas skeletons: they could “copypaste” abit from there

That new dude could also use plenty of already existing weapons and his unique weapons might be:

shock maul & shield
some melee weapon pistol combo

His ultimates could be placable beacons that apply buffs or some sort of battle servitor drone which attacks enemies I dont know

skill tree wise you could make him more pet/tech oriented, more tank/support oriented and more agile “spec ops” style in his trees / keystones

this is just wild speculating/dreaming by my side

but this class would make sense, also lore wise - think of an imperial law enforcer who’s made a “mistake” on duty and thus became a reject: it would fit

… and lets not forget… nobody expected Kruber becoming a Grail Knight out of nothing back in the days.

Could be an Arbitrator but it’d have to be some sort of new “prestige” type class. The Adeptus Arbites are the police arm of the Adeptus Terra. Their main duty is policing the behavior and conduct of planetary governors and higher level positions. Secondary duties involve things like interstellar fugitives or criminal organizations. They are the FBI-equivalent of the setting, sort of the police version of Space Marines. They seldom involve themselves in “local” affairs of a planetary scale or below at all unless widespread order or, especially, fulfillment of the Tithe are at risk.

The situation on Atoma has certainly proceeded to the point of disrupting the Tithe and even moreso on the outer Domain worlds with whom all contact has been lost entirely. It will certainly have attracted Arbites attention by now. But if they were to get involved, they would be a mover and shaker, a shot caller. Someone like Dukane or Rannick. Not much chance they show up with a dog, a pistol, and a shock maul and try to single-handedly turn the tide of a war against a Ruinous Power. Even less likely that they try to do so by joining a rather suspicious penal regiment whose bosses seem all too comfortable maintaining the status quo.

But really, if they can get GW to sign off on it, they can do anything. Heck, we could get prestige Guilliman class if they really wanted.

Based on collab with Rogue Trader, I believe we are getting new class with cyber-mastiff:

possible? yes. probable? hm. a few months ago, they announced “new toys for veteran”. what could that be? for once, most people liked the activation mechanic of the relic blade better than the on-off button for the power sword, so it could be that. and the mastiff… sure they could add a new class, but giving the vet a dog is the simpler solution. perhaps replacing the smoke grenades that are a rather unpopular choice.

I expect nothing, yet I can’t wait to be disappointed.

something tells me that if they do anything to the smokes, they’ll either nerf them into the ground making them worse than they already are, or, they’ll actually improve them by making them into something like the electric smokes from titanfall.
