Trying to fight stutters during hordes in this game feels impossible

Issue Type (Required):

Performance

Issue Description (Required):

Running on an RTX 3070, i7-10700, 32 GB RAM, and NVMe SSD, yet it still somehow doesn’t feel enough to play this game smoothly.

I’m about to reach 1500 hours of total playtime, and I still have no idea what keeps killing the game’s performance every ~200 hours or so. I’ve been playing for the last couple of months with relatively few issues (not perfectly smooth, but acceptable), and lately the stutters started creeping in again. It’s gotten to the point where every horde drops my FPS by around 10-15 from the average, and for some reason, in this game, even losing 5 FPS makes everything feel clunky and unresponsive.

I’ve gone through all the usual steps again: changed worker threads from the previously recommended to me 6 to 13, then back to 6, then back to 13 again; switched between DX11 and DX12 multiple times; turned DLSS on - no improvement. Lowering some graphical settings also doesn’t help.

At this point, I’m just tired of constantly fighting stutters in this game. And yes, I already know what the first response will be - that same troubleshooting guide with all the steps I’ve followed dozens of times. This post isn’t even a request for help anymore, it’s more like a heads-up.

Something happens to this game every once in a while that completely kills performance. The only “fix” is to go through the entire checklist again - clean reinstall the game, clean reinstall GPU drivers, reset all the configs - and maybe, just maybe, it helps.

It really sucks

Thanks for sharing your experience with us Nikolaj. It sounds like you’ve already done plenty of troubleshooting, and I apologise I don’t have any immediate solutions for this, but I’ll be sure to pass your concerns on to the team.

Thank you, I love this game and I want to keep playing.

Your troubleshooting guide states that “changing worker threads to 6 may help improve the performance and the reasons for it are currently unknown”, they’ve been unknown for quite a long time already, is there a possibility that this will be adressed? For us who own CPUs with a higher number of threads?

Judging by my observations, I really feel that most of the performance issues for me come from the CPU bottleneck. The logical solution would be increasing the number of worker threads, but it barely affects anything. I have to switch back and forth between 6 or 7 and 13 all the time and I can’t even determine what is better.

Well my performance died. From 6 to 13 threads, it doesn’t matter, the hordes drop my FPS by at least 3-5 frames. If there are effects like beastmen banners, fire bombs, warrior priest shield’s explosions, the game stutters heavily. Losing even 3 fps makes the game feel very sluggish and controls unresponsive for some reason.
