True Aim Change?

Reasoning is it would make True Aim more consistent for Staves as it is pretty hard to track True Aim stacks during heavy engagements.

*Note: at 5 stacks, any following weakspot hits using primary fire would not consume the True Aim buff, rather they would just sit at 5 stacks until Secondary Fire is used.

  • Yes, this would be a good change.
  • No, this is a horrible idea.

It’s a tricky one.

With UI mods you can track the buff easily enough, but that’s part of the problem. You shouldn’t need mods to track obviously important priority buffs like this, the game should offer an option to place priority buffs near the crosshair as-is.

Then there’s the issue of Surge not working for Trauma/Voidblast secondary at all, and True Aim is a natural match for Surge.

And ofc, right now primary fire (with Surge or not) & True Aim is actually useful for all staves except Inferno. Especially Electrokinetic with its high crit rate sees a lot of use for its primary. Primary shots also have a much higher finesse modifier than secondaries for all staves, and they do a lot more dmg & faster against splash resistant mobs like muties & dogs. So there are definitely instances where you want to proc TA on that, not secondary.

I’m also not comfortable with failsafe designs like this on principle. Darktide is a deeply skill-based game. A change like this would simultaneously take away from our fine control, while also making using TA too easy. However little, it would eat away at the skill-focused design of psykers and possibly even require nerfing the talent later. But like I said, TA is a priority buff that expects we’re tracking it. The vanilla game doesn’t even let us do that so… it’s not exactly that simple.
