I get confused by all these options in the game. What do you mean I have to choose my own weapon? There are too many, it’s too overwhelming.
I like what they did with the havoc missions, they choose for me so I don’t have to worry my shrivelled little brain with making a choice for myself. So why don’t they extend this to everything else?
I heard there’s a mod out there to randomise loadouts every time you play, but I can’t figure out how to install mods and when I go on Nexus the amount of options confuses and scares me. The devs should change from a system of player choice and confusion to one where the game chooses your weapons, talents and curios randomly.
I also get overwhelmed trying to create my own character and choosing my class. Maybe these should also be left up to RNG?
Also, picking a server on the regular board for the difficulty I usually play (uprising) is too complicated. I wish it was like Havoc where we don’t get the option to choose.
It’s not rocket science, but I get what you’re saying.
If you look at a Nintendo RPG like Breath of the Wild – one of the most in-depth entries in The Legend of Zelda series, the experience is still far more streamlined than most traditional RPGs.
In Darktide, you’ve got a fairly deep skill tree with around 90 options, and each weapon comes with multiple variants. It’s not Skyrim in terms of modding (there’s probably around 100k Skyrim mods now), but there are still a few hundred mods out there to sort through. You don’t need to do that yourself. You can find guides on that.
I like to experiment. I don’t play as much as some others here, but I still appreciate having a lot of options. That said, I mostly stick to a few quality-of-life mods that help reduce confusion and make things clearer:
Zip It - Reduces the dialogue. It gives me a headache how often banter and radio dialogue is spammed in my ears.
Mission Brief - Goes well with Zip It; gives you the mission objectives at a glance so you don’t have to listen to the same mission intro over and over.
Scoreboard - A detailed overview of your team’s gameplay, but it sums up your performance metrics for offense, and defense fairly well as Total Score in big bold letters.
Markers Improved - Color coded detailed markers. Very useful features such as showing the uses left on Ammo Crates.
Auto Mod Loading and Ordering - Automatically organizes the mods and loads them for you so you don’t have to copy them into a text file. This helps if you ahve more than a few mods.
Other than that, I don’t just look for mods to download. I usually know what I want. For example, the dialogue spam gives me a headache, so I looked for a mod to fix that, and it massively improved my experience.
If you want to avoid confusion with which weapon, and talents to pick, I use this website:
Additionally, I recommend finding a good Twitch Streamer like ChocoB who plays this game regularly, and then try out one of their up-to-date builds. I like to narrow my builds to mainly what’s meta at the highest level so that my talents, weapons, and blessings all synergize; and even then, there’s plenty of choices without it feeling overwhelming.
I think it’s overwhelming when it becomes a burden to know how everything in the game clicks together. It helps quite a bit to have a build as a roadmap.
Nice troll post, however I’m left a little bit confused at exactly what you’re trying to throw shade at? I’m guessing it’s the random mission selection board with random periodic modifiers? That’s been in the Book of Grudges for quite a while now, rather unanimously
This is a reference to the FOMO store which is limited to prevent players from being overwhelmed by all the options. It’s a craven and stupid choice that’s worthy of ridicule but the managers who made the decision will never see this troll post
I thought so too at first, but if you think about it, people who are used to a simple horde shooters like Left 4 Dead or Killing Floor 2 might find this game overwhelming.
On the other hand, anyone who’s played Path of Exile and created a decent build would find Darktide relatively simple to understand.
This is very true, though it’s worth noting Darktide has an abundance of sub-optimal talents that new players may believe to be good from how the descriptions are worded, so even experienced build crafters should watch YouTubers like @TannerLindberg and @Mister_E for up to date info on build crafting when playing Darktide for the first time.
The cream doesn’t rise to the top as fast as the crap if you’re in a toilet.
This is why with almost every game I play, I like to see if there’s a pro scene, or at least a few twitch streamers who no-life the game so I can learn from them.
