I don’t understand why ironbreaker bardin can’t use throwing axes and acquiring the final cosmetic for it is a real pain because of it. I’ve beat the first three lords but once I reach the end of skittergate It all goes down hill from there.
Try a ranger veteran with a shield weapon.
If I recall correctly, throwing axes for Iron Breakers is a bit sketchy lore-wise.
And IB already has a unique set of weapons, the Drakefire Gun and Drakefire Pistols.
I believe there was an official answer to this in a stream at some point? Does anyone else remember FS talking about it, or am I just imagining things?

My understanding is thunderers use handguns, quarellers and rangers use crossbows, irondrakes use drakeguns. Ironbreaker Bardin uses all of them so why not throwing axes? Plus drakefire gun and pistols are not very good after they replaced the original drakefire talent.

I have. Axe and shield is my bread and butter.
I believe Irondrakes are just Ironbreakers with some special training though.
Dwarf Irondrakes are those Dwarfs within an Ironbreaker regiment who are trained in the use of the deadly fire-spewing Drakegun.
As for the rest, I can’t really say for sure why he has access to the handgun and crossbow but not the throwing axes. I’m sure an Ironbraker could throw an axe as well as any other dwarf if he had to.
I imagine it’s a balance thing. He doesn’t really need the axes and hes already got his own infinite ammo weapons.
If balancing is the reason then why give it to the slayer? The slayer is a dps machine with the only downside to him being that he can only use melee weapons. So is it not a bit contradicting that he gets infinite throwing axes?
First off: welcome! We’re glad to you have, @CoronaRookie!
I’m not sure there’s a lore-justification as to why the iron-breaker might not carry it, but I imagine it has something to do with the drake-fire weapons being exclusive to the IB already (as noted by @EnragedFountain above); it might be that the devs looked at that as a reason to move the throwing axes away from IB so that the other classes could have that same recurring-ammunition as the Drakefir without allowing the IB to push them out of that niche, too.
It’s certainly a doable cosmetic quest on either slayer or ranger, though. Kaelus is accurate in saying RV can take in plenty of stamina and durability without needing Gromril Armor to protect him, though I will admit that the experience is considerably less forgiving.
Consider it the next box to tick in your list of mastering Vermintide crushing it with Slayer is a witch… Deathrattler and his miniguns are awful.
Whatever their reason might be I would still like to see the throwing axe come to the ironbreaker but for now I’ll have to do without it
Take slayer with dual axes and throwing axe w/ grimnir, barkskin, and thp on cleave. He becomes super tanky. That should help with the fight quite a bit.
Edit: You want to just spam the heavy attacks.
Edit Edit: You’ll also want to put 2.0 stam and 60% BCR on as well. This is a huge thing most players neglect doing.
This is off topic sorry OP but I want to ask Sleazyrats something.
Been playing a lot of Slayer lately in Cata and modded.
Dual Hammer and Dual Axe or Dual Hammer and 1h Axe.
For the dual ham dual Axe build you recommend BCR on the axes and neck? Stam on the axes too or just the neck?
Or was your recommendation to OP to just help him clear the map?
Push stab is still really strong on DA. So I recommend Stam/BCR on that. As I feel playing without BCR is basically playing challenge mode. The stam is both an offensive and defensive trait on DA. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary on DH though as it has higher base stam. I’d probably take crit/BCR there. When I run DA/DH, I usually q swap the heavies for most mobs. So having the crit on DH helps keep SS up.
And I run health/BCR on neck, but there is a perfectly good argument for stam/BCR on slayer with the hp buff he received.
Thanks Sleazy appreciate it!
