I got flak for this opinion in another thread, but I very much agree with @derrame.
So far I have played 768 hours in Darktide and have three classes at 30; Psyker, Preacher and Veteran.
For the last 250+ hours I have played exclusively my Veteran (Quorin) with the combination of the Stub Revolver and the Power Sword.
I have also equipped my Preacher with Eviscerator and Flamer and finally my Psyker with a Deimos MK IV and Purgatus Staff.
All weapons on 380 and with the ārightā Perks and Blessings.
Like probably most players, I experimented with different equipment and weapons at first, but soon settled on my fixed equipment for the three characters during my 768 hours.
I have no real interest in switching weapons unless Fatshark releases completely new weapons that we do not have any versions of.
In Darktide, I shoot my gun and hit things with a melee weapon.
Itās as simple as that, when you get right down to it.
I donāt have 15+ tab target skills in Darktide like I do in an MMORPG, where Iāve 5 different selectable skills in addition to the 15+, with each of those 5 selectable skills greatly altering my opening, rotation, and priority skills.
I click the left mouse button, sometimes the right mouse button and my ultimate.
Iām sorry, but I donāt see how this skill update will fundamentally change the way I play my characters.
New weapons would definitely make me want to try something new, but how will having skill builds differ from feats which is basically the same thing?
Passives that barely do anything noticeable outside of some of the rare Quality of Life ones.
The Remnant games, Division games, the new Ghost Recon games all have what I would call choices and builds.
My mod build support Archon vs my shield/life steal/heavy engineer in Remnant 2 for example are totally different playstyles.
In Darktide and with how Darktide is designed, short blitz matches, I just donāt see that happening, Iāll gladly be proven wrong, but as I see it; skills is something you will spec into once and then forget forever just like with the feats.
Just read @Heretical_Cactus reply and i am still doubtfulā¦
Thing is Darktide is moving forward in such a slow pace that focusing on skills as an update (and probably nothing else for 6 months) feels pretty bad.
If Darktide had regular monthly updates I would have not been opposed to an update like this, but you really have to put it in perspective.
Game is still behind and will continue to be so unless Fatshark gets the gsme out of EA (which is getting closer).
