Hey there, something to improve your gameplayexperience and have fun on damnation
1. Character creation:
The height of the character affects your crossair ingame. If you got a tall character you get better overview and can fire in backlinge. (counts for: psyker, preacher and veteran)
As ogryn I would recommend the dwarf style. Still good overview but u dont block that much view to your team.
2. Control settings
The most important movements for damnation are: dodge and slide.
You need to learn to Dodge-Slide to avoid mutant (big charging ones, easy left or right dodge-slide) and even poxhounds (dodgeslide on 45° angle into them to avoid getting catched)
For better handling I adjusted the controls as follow:
- Sprint & Dodge: space (yes you can set 2 skills on one button - sprinting is only activated when running forward, the direction you cant dodge - all other directions apply the dodge move)
- Jumping: ALT
- Crouch: Shift
- Quick Action: Q (Grenade/Brainburst)
This way you can easy learn dodge-slide and got every important movement skill without breaking your fingers too much.
Dodge slide: space + (very short delayed) shift
3. Critical situations
Your team seems to get overruned by an massive amount of mixed hordes? - Fall back.
This game got more than one direction. And if you and (hopefully) your team falls back you can get in a very much better position to handle it.
The range units will not follow as fast as the melee units. So you get the chance to fight the melee stuff without beeing killed by loads of bullets.
On the other hand: by running back, enemies will start to line up, so you can easy get em around a corner and become hero of the situation. 4 EMPRAH!
4. Weaponchoices
Each weapon works and you dont need 370+ bases to clear damnation. Yes it helps, but not necessary.
This part is the most difficult one. Each weapon has a specific job where it shines. First of all you need to know what kind of job is it. 2nd thought: what kind of job do you want to fullfill in your (random) team?
Some examples:
- Boss Killer/Big-Boy Killer
- Ranged enemies
- Hordes
- Jack of all trades (mostly all situation but none as good as it could be)
- Last survivor (stay alive to pick up team, not best in damage, not best in clearing but you will pick everything up if your mates fall down)
and so on.
If you know what you want to be, chose the weapons that fit. Choose the way YOU need it. Maybe the slow 2h maul got best damage - if you cant handle the slow pattern and heavy strikes that are needed - learn it or go for another weapon that fits you personal skills.
The most important is: know your place and play in that way. Your mates rush in? Dont do so if you are not able to handle the mixed hordes and range fire on close range. Your mates play hide and shoot? And you can handle it on your own to go in? Go in (as long as you can handle it)
5. Get a view of the situation
Try to understand what you will see. For example: mobs are clustered in groups. They will not attack until you attack or reach the agro zone of the mobs. So if the situation is critical: think about what mobs you target: are they already pulled? Or are the 15 scab gunners just chilling around and ignore you and your team? Same with charging in and so on.
6. There is always an enemie behind you
Mutants, Pox Hounds, Trappers and Tox Flamers usually spawns behind you and will mess up with you.
If your 3 mates go in like ogryns 4 emprah - take a chill and LISTEN to the sound. They will tell you if they are on the way to get your party killed. Watch behind you, you will find em and make the game much more easy. (This job is very good for a last survivor build - no suprise from behind and you can pick up every mob that arrive on the battlefield and could crash the party)
What are the most important things you learned to improve your gameplay and handle damnation?
Would like to improve more and learn about it.
