I hope I’m not the only auric damnation player that feels this way. I know Survivalist exist but imo its just a bandaid for the fact that this game just doesnt spawn enough ammo sometimes, a resource that most specs are dependent on. Survivalist shouldnt be meta at all, it honestly shouldnt even be in the game because everyone should have access to ranged considering the how encounter design of the game is set up. And this also enforces a meta for ranged weapons to because time to kill is tied to ammo efficiency, more people are gonna veer towards the more meta guns because they HAVE to make their ammo count because they HAVE to engage ranged mobs. I suggest making it so gunners/reapers drop ammo, adding guaranteed unlimited ammo piles in a level like L4D safe rooms, or a significant increase the range, dmg, & armor pen of guns.
Its 40k dude, there’s more ammunition in this universe than stars in the sky.
Also while I’m at it why do all shooters have like unlimited range? The 2 new maps really highlight this issue with their wide open spaces and the fact that they have practically no heavy coverage and the tinniest bit of light coverage. When shooters are shooting you from from like 50+m , which is beyond the “far” range of most guns, it just doesn’t feel fun, and I think the fact that most psychers are taking dome just to not deal with that interaction is a testament to it. So I think adding something like more heavy coverage to like most maps with open areas or hallways or lowering the max range for shooters to be more inline with the player’s gun ranges would be a welcome change imo.
It’s way better than it was a few patches back. At the moment I feel like it’s only a real issue if you’ve got a couple of ammo hogs on the team.
Ammo efficiency is a funny thing. I run autoguns most of the time, playing 90% ranged, and rarely have serious ammo issues even when sharing the pickups around. Then you take something like a revolver with 50-60 shots and you’re constantly on the edge of red ammo and competing for pickups because even when every kill is a one or two-shot, 30-60 kills is basically nothing at T5++.
I think people feel forced to use ammo-hungry weapons like revolvers and bolters and plasma rifles purely because of crushers. Yes, those sorts weapons are also strong against other tough targets and other ranged weapons are capably strong against those same enemies, but only crushers are tough enough to push you hard to take something to deal with them specifically.
I play since the second beta. Ammo was never an issue, not even with autoguns. I do think that it is a skill issue. But I must add that the maximum amound of randoms in my team is 1. Maybe a full random team is less organzied, so people take the ammo for themselves.
It’s way better than it’s used to be. They increased base amo (for some guns), and I think the amount we pick up too (I’m not sure).
As a Vet running Agrippina with passive amo regen, I can kill almost 200 elites + specials combined (Auric T5 Shock Troop). As you see in the scoreboard, I only picked up 4 small amo the whole map. I think this is quite crazy tbh compared to before. I would say about 30% of the special/elite kills were from my melee but still that’s quite a lot.
I think I can’t emphasize this enough because I see people doing it all the time but people spend too much amo on trash mobs. I don’t wanna get into the details, I’ll leave it at that.
Any time someone makes a very broad topic about ammo scarcity, they get asked for specifics “what class/talent/gun you using and what are you shooting at?”
I also want to know, too, because some guns are just night and day (Kickback vs Ripper MK II for example; one can be shot all day and the other will burn empty before you know it).
But besides that.
I would not hate this at all. But, I don’t see it happening because ammo crates have a good spawn rate.
Well, the ammo replenishment for the plasma gun was poor long before it got increased cleave. It is by far the worst affected by the reserve-based replenishment since you only get 50% of the benefit. Most other guns have 8 - 10x magazines/full reloads in reserve, so they only lose 10 - 12.5% of the benefit, compared to replenishment based on total capacity
This is definitely the case with me and I’m only in vanilla Damnation. I look at my team, unless someone is running anti-armor it’s thunder hammer, shieldgryn, plasma, etc etc.
