The Veteran’s Power Sword and the skitarii’s Power Sword

Funny thing is, the well-forged, perfectly maintained power swords wielded by the Skitarii deal far less damage than the beat-up second-hand ones carried by Veteran. For lore consistency, I think the Veteran’s power sword should be nerfed down to match the Skitarii’s power sword.

That’s a terrible take. The power sword on the veteran is a 3 charged attack weapon. When it’s powered off it’s god awful.

I deleted my previous comment due to a few spelling mistakes. If the Veteran’s power sword was really as weak as you claim, why wouldn’t Fatshark just give it to Skitarii? We both know it’d make the Skitarii class completely overpowered.Furthermore,No one attacks with an uncharged power sword. When contrasted with the heat systems of the Zealot relic sword and Veteran power sabre, the charging mechanic of the Veteran power sword functions as a distinct benefit, resulting in virtually no lulls in its combat capability.

Could’ve just edited it.

No, I do not think that giving it to skitarii will make it busted.

Furthermore, No one attacks with an uncharged power sword.

They may not attack with it unpowered, but you do realize the balancing of the weapon is the lack of mobility, the bad dodges, and the limited powered strikes yes?

When contrasted with the heat systems of the Zealot relic sword and Veteran power sabre, the charging mechanic of the Veteran power sword functions as a distinct benefit, resulting in virtually no lulls in its combat capability.

The relic blades and falchion are balanced around prolonged activation, the power sword is balanced around a couple of powerful strikes. The power sword has some pretty large drawbacks as I’ve listed before.

Sure, but you have to consider that the Power Sword’s balance is tightly tied to the Veteran class. Ogryn melee weapons also have short dodge distances, yet none of their melee options hit nearly as hard as this Power Sword. Veterans lack stun immunity and are far squishier than Ogryns. Meanwhile, Skitarii get far more damage boosts and damage reduction from their feats, plus permanent stun immunity. Giving the Veteran’s Power Sword to Skitarii would make the class completely busted.Besides, I’m not talking about gameplay balance here—I’m talking about lore. From a lore standpoint, the Veteran’s power sword simply shouldn’t outdamage the Skitarii’s power sword under any circumstances.

rather than trying to adjust weapons by matching them to the strength of other weapons, weapon balance should be based on the effective niches and challenges they should fill in gameplay against the enemies

otherwise you just end up with jealous children playing in a sandbox trying to take eachothers toys away

I don’t see where you are pulling this from.

Ogryn melee weapons also have short dodge distances, yet none of their melee options hit nearly as hard as this Power Sword.

Ogryn has some of the largest dodge distances, it’s just that it is over a extended period of time. The power sword has to be built around high damage for it to outdamage the ogryn. If you just slap it on a ranged build it will perform terribly.

Meanwhile, Skitarii get far more damage boosts and damage reduction from their feats, plus permanent stun immunity.

Veteran has focus target which tremendously improves his damage, he also has some of the highest toughness, and great ranged TDR. Vet also has VoC to stun all enemies and give gold toughness, which is far more useful.

Giving the Veteran’s Power Sword to Skitarii would make the class completely busted.

Again, I don’t see how that would be the case. Especially when it has something like chordclaw, which is literally like the power sword.

I’m not talking about gameplay balance here—I’m talking about lore. From a lore standpoint, the Veteran’s power sword simply shouldn’t outdamage the Skitarii’s power sword under any circumstances.

This is where you go wrong. Darktide isn’t lore accurate at all. Our rejects should not be this powerful whatsoever. The skitarii power sword at the end of the day is just a power sword. It can’t do more damage because it utilizes the same tech. It’s just applied differently for gameplay variety.

This is true to some regards. While niches are fun, they can be super detrimental to overall feel. If the weapon lacks in horde clear and makes up for it with single target, it’s not gonna feel good to use. A good example are the combat axes.

yea it’s a case by case, i was really just trying to say to match the weapons to the problems the gameplay presents, rather than the weapons to eachother

to begin with, is the skitarii sword underpowered or the veteran sword overpowered or both? no way to find out unless we start looking at what sort of performance is actually fitting for the gameplay

I think it’s better to compare the skitarii power sword to something it’s actually like. The arc power maul. Since both seem to have the same mechanic methinks, which OP doesn’t seem to get.

VERY similar thread already up i just noticed, coincidence?

I don’t get how you can’t see this. I don’t wanna flex my skill here, but for context, I’ve done multiple havoc 40 true duo. My teammates have recorded footage of our runs—my PC can’t handle recording without lagging. I think I understand Veteran’s strengths and weaknesses. The Veteran’s lack of permanent stun immunity and low survivability are the main things holding back its melee capability. To compensate for these weaknesses, the Veteran is given the Power Sword — a weapon that excels at single target, crowds, elites, and bosses.

Ogryn’s shield and maul both have short dodge ranges, and his longer dodge cooldowns make him struggle more against specials compared to other classes.

Just imagine a chordclaw plus the Veteran power sword on Skitarii.

It shouldn’t be completely outmatched by the Veteran’s Power Sword, no matter if you judge it by sustained long-term output or instant burst damage. Right now it’s noticeably weaker against single targets, hordes, elites and bosses. Do you think that’s reasonable for weapons from the same family?

I haven’t read that thread before. Honestly, I think plenty of people who’ve watched Skitarii gameplay videos share the same thought. It’s hard not to draw comparisons when both weapons are literally called Power Swords.

Great post

vet and zealot players:

Vet Mains the nanosecond FS announces a new class with a ranged weapon:

Have you done a havoc duo with the power sword?

If you buff vet’s melee combat capabilities you will turn it into an insanely op class.

It excels in damage yes, but it lacks a whole lot to make up for it. Like I said before, it lacks good mobility, dodges, and stamina.

Ogryn’s shield and maul both have short dodge ranges, and his longer dodge cooldowns make him struggle more against specials compared to other classes.

They gave ogryn a 50% DR during his dodges, the only time he struggles is when you do something stupid.

Just imagine a chordclaw plus the Veteran power sword on Skitarii.

I don’t think it’d be super insanely good. The chordclaw is even better than the power sword in terms of dps. The power sword is good, but I don’t think it’d be a top tier combo if it were on the class. It’s cons outweigh the pros in terms of everything, especially when you have a better power sword with none of the negatives as an ability.

While I agree that the skitarii power sword is weak, I don’t think it’s productive to compare it to a weapon it’s nothing alike. It’s also not in the same family technically, as they don’t share the same marks.

I made a post on a similar topic, but a lot of people couldn’t even comprehend how much stronger the Veteran’s Power Sword is compared to the Skitarii’s Power Sword. Maybe they just over-rely on the power sword and don’t want to see it get nerfed? You’re basically sacrificing just a little bit of mobility and having to charge it up, in exchange for several times the damage output and crazy high cleave. Obviously, that’s just not balanced.

for what it’s worth have you seen anyone actually play a skitarii full bottom-of-tree melee build yet?

i’ve noticed that the few gameplay vids i looked at everyone runs left side to spam the most chudclaw. but bottom of the tree has extreme melee enhancing talents on it. it seems that a crit build skitarii with the bottom of the tree can achieve a very high crit rate and some weakspot bonuses. and if you do check the weapon profile on the skitarii powersword, it has way better crit damage and headshot damage than the vet powerswords do, and i dont even know if thats before or after the passive bonus it gets.

it may be premature to call it bad before you’ve actually seen it played on a melee build. on chudclaw builds, weapons seem to be more of a supportive tool.
