Pls quote someone who said that, i could’t find anyone and i don’t know what you are referencing your post to.
Im fine with the experience curve, but regarding players should be rewarded and incentivised to learn and play multiple classes, how can this be the case when currency, I mean mainly tokens and weekly quest are not shared between character ! I mean, there will not be that much people who can do weekly quest by playing 2 or 3 different characters ! Its already kinda hard on one but i will never play Psyker on friday if i have played Ogryn the other days and i need to complete my weekly quest
It’s gonna get better once Craftings added and the crafting materials are added back, right now it feels a bit lackluster with gearing in general ![]()
Could just be copium tho^^
There’s plenty of games that doesn’t have a level up system that are similar in playstyle to Darktide, what’s the point in making Darktide more like those other games?
The leveling has two big purposes in my eyes.
Filter out newer players from higher difficulties, even if the current limits are WAY too low for quickplay lobbies.
And to give you a chance to properly test out feats, weapons and so on without overwhelming you with a million choices of the get go.
I think your first character taking 30 hours to max level is extremely fair and a good decision made by fatshark, I do think we should have a system that helps speed up the process for a secondary character tho as at that point we’re already familiar with the game itself and have seen other players on other classes do things so we’re not totally unfamiliar with the way they’re supposed to be played.
Just look at Vermintide 2 recently, we had double xp event and the game was free for all… The amount of clueless new players who ended up in higher diffs than they were even remotely ready for, thus ruining alot of games were astonishing. Glad to see a bunch of new players tho but the leveling is needed to get them used to the games combat, mechanics and so on.
This is something we agree on, but our ideal ways of achieving that are the opposite it seems.
I do want newer players to have a chance to get into the game and enjoy it, learn how to tackle whats thrown at us and so on, while also having a good pace where they can do so.
Leveling quickly, or near instantly, cause right now it goes very fast if you actually go in for leveling quickly with or without prior knowledge. Atleast have for me and my mates but I digress.
It takes one mission to get lvl 2-3, and another to get lvl 3-4. The third game unlocks your first feat, which should take you about an hour to an hour and a half to reach. That’s not alot of time but also kind of enough time and games to get you to more easily understand how the game works, how your toughness works and what kind of enemies are in the game and how those affect your toughness recovery for instance. Which is a very simple and easy concept so not that hard to get.
The choices later in the levels, are harder to decide between as you may or may not understand your classes role in the group and think you’re a jack of all trades, something you rarely are at end game even if you’re capable of doing it all you won’t excell at doing it all cause you simply just don’t reach enough breakpoints or similarly to perform your job. This is why I feel the leveling process needs to take its time and not be rushed, without taking years to complete. 30 hours isn’t that long to get into a game at all and it certainly can be done way faster, especially if you have any experience with similar games such as L4D, B4B, Vermintide or so on ![]()
People want to play with builds, use different weapons, and take on all the game has to offer. Those things are severely limited during the leveling process.
I started it off by saying I did not want to strawman the argument, but the manner in which it comes across, is that the OP essentially wants all weapons and talents to be readily available, without having to earn it through the current leveling process. He wants to expedite the process and make it ‘considerably’ faster.
My statement certainly has some hyperbolic elements by suggesting ‘might as well just start new players with everything, talents and weapons included’, but by no means does it dismiss the rest of my point.
Fatshark is trying to retain more customers here. That is our goal; hopefully bring in more new players
The issue is not actually about progression; the right issue is the boring beginning
More weapons need to be available, and lvl 5 perk needs to be even earlier
People can learn teamwork as they go, and Heresy will be a wakeup call should they get there
I also believe a big issue is the fact we have only four classes, and no subclasses, compare that to VT2 on launch, and it speaks for itself.
I mean we have a way broader way of designing our own class in Darktide compared to Vermintide 2 tho in most cases so the need for subclasses feels less important in my honest opinion.
Take the Veteran Sharpshooter for instance :
- Demolitions expert, bombs away left, right and center
- Close range, melee focus with shotgun, autoguns etc with reload speed
- Long range focus, using high accuracy weapons to snipe and dispatch threats
- Boss killer with full focus on burst damage and how you can deal the most amount of damage in a 5s window
To me these 4 builds atleast feel vastly different when you play them… Given I haven’t tried Demolitions playstyle post todays nerf so the 15s longer cooldown and 3% lower chance to get grenades on kill might hurt it too much
But you do have more ways here to change how a class feels than in Vermintide2, based on the amount of weapons you can pick aswell as feats that change it up more than most classes in Vermintide2 did
Well said.
There is no point for me to “learn” mechanics again.
Twice or thrice the leveling speed would help
Getting double xp after a player gets one character to 30 would be a good solve. If you’ve reached level 30 you’ve learned the basics and probably experienced high difficulty content. There’s absolutely no value in forcing a player to repeat that process three more times beyond misguided “player retention” metrics.
iHe was specifically talking about speeding up the rate of progression.
The current XP gain rates should be increased considerably, such that a person can level a character to 30 in a reasonable amount of time playing on a common difficulty.
Furthermore, players should be rewarded and incentivised to learn and play multiple classes, the current rate of progression actively discourages this
I really don’t know what you are meaning with
I started it off by saying I did not want to strawman the argument, but the manner in which it comes across, is that the OP essentially wants all weapons and talents to be readily available, without having to earn it through the current leveling process. He wants to expedite the process and make it ‘considerably’ faster.
you even contradict yourself with this statement. You understand what he is talking about yet you still make a strawman.
The theoretical you proposed where this would result in people Q’ing for 4s or 5s that shouldnt be, that is already happening with the current system. It’s not a theory, it’s the current status quo.
I wouldn’t say they help “a lot”. For example the best I have seen is +5% xp on a curio. That amounts to one extra “run” of xp, every 20 runs. If a run is on average 20 minutes, that’s 400 minutes of mission time giving you effectively 420 minutes worth of xp. There’s also, let’s estimate, 5 minutes between runs, so the numbers look worse when looking at play time. Somewhere on the order of 500 minutes of playtime nets you one free run worth of xp.
When you look at the numbers, the current XP curios feel insignificant.
5% is NOTHING. 15% means get 1 free every 7 runs
And you have to unlock the Curio slots as you level AND buy them in the RNGshop…
So… Curios are “fake news” afaik hahaha
I reached Max level in only 40 hours so i think its pretty fast.
I even wish i could level further as it is fun to me.
I would not change anything about the EXP amount given.
I can appreciate that some people like hte levelling or WANT to level a second character at slow pace with a friend that is new to the game, but it shouldn’t be forced. Allow me to activate a 300% (or more) xp gain for my concurrent characters - give me the option, please.
That’s fine that you enjoy leveling. In vermintide it keeps track of your levels past 30. This is denoted as level 30 +8, or +19, for a level 38 or 49 player respectively. FS could find a way to show this off so the hardcore players can show off their “true” level of they want to.
With VT2’s system the leveling never ends, but the important part for gameplay reasons are the levels required to gain your talents.
I met a lot of level 30 players (eventually 35 after dlc) in VT2 that still wouldn’t block and dodge. If someone’s bad and they don’t want to get better they are going to remain bad no matter what their level is.
We shouldn’t treat max level like this thing you “earn” and it means you “know what your doing” because the reality is that the game doesn’t really start until your max level. The leveling process should only be long enough to introduce players to all the concepts, maybe on the order of 15 hours. You can’t expect players to master the games concepts by max level, but you should be able to rely on knowing they atleast have been introduced to them.
yup, too grindy
the rng store system sucks
