The Orthus Offensive - NOW LIVE!

I mean surely the answer is to have the crew who’re working over winter instead take holiday early? that’s what everyone else does.

Hopefully nothing goes too skew-whiffed over the holidays

I agree that is a reasonable solution, altering the work schedules to make it work better.

There are very few mandatory days off during xmas. It is certainly not several weeks, or a whole month.

If people sign on with companies that don’t have good PTO policies, that’s their fault for signing the contract. We can point to studios who have crunch time, those have been addressed and dealt with for the most part. Its not approved by anyone and most companies have reasonable work schedules, no need to make a martyr out of bad optimization.

Yeah, I don’t really know the whole mandatory days off schedule as I’m not Swedish, so I can’t really speak for it! That’s why I said it’s best to take it up with Sweden because they’re the big rat that makes all of da rules y’know?

Sounds like a functional answer, but FS left all the issues present last christmas break for the whole break so no reason to believe they leave anyone in the office.

Gunfire Games (makers of Remnant) announced today that the whole studio is taking off from 12/15 to 01/09, nearly a full month. I think that’s awesome.

We’re talking about video games here, people. Yeesh.

You can google it, they get 25 days a year to take off, they can save them for 5 years. There’s not a mandatory use per year except in the case of having 5 years built up, then you go into use or lose.

We are talking about companies and jobs here people, yeesh. The idea that a functioning company making anything can just shut down QA/QC and the whole studio is ridiculous. You give a pass because you think its not important, so can you go to the multiple people in multiple threads who spent money on the game that they can’t play and have not been addressed and tell them that December-January is a no work period so i guess you dont get to play for another 4 weeks?

They’re functioning. They’re actually growing it seems. And I’m sure we’ll all be seeing plenty of whatever overpriced cosmetic they’ll drop tomorrow, alongside this, the third free map in a month.

But uh…keep…uh…fighting the uh…good…fight?

Their cosmetics tend to cost more than map packs in certain other games. Someone’s paying for those maps. It’s not me, and maybe it’s not you, but someone’s paying for them. Free they are not.

The maps are free, the updates are free. People choose to buy cosmetics because they want to look a certain way. Turns out, that makes for a pretty decent revenue stream.

But even if everyone stopped buying cosmetics, the maps would still be free…until the money ran out!

They aren’t functioning…for about 4 weeks soon. Also you skimmed the “people can’t play the game” part.

Nah - if Fatshark, as a company, had employees take vacation time throughout the year, there wouldn’t be this problem.

The month-long ‘vacation’ isn’t a Sweden problem, it’s a Fatshark problem because they’re not managing the time of their employees with the reality of being a live service game company.

Generally speaking, month of vacation? Sure! 25 days out of the year you get free and are legally required to have off is great…but when your bosses are just shoving them all at the end of the year, it’s pretty obvious it’s a mismanagement issue at the company level and they’re trying to do the bare minimum to satisfy legal requirements.

Can you just pause for a beat and think about what you’re really proposing here? Like, you think the solution to your problem that your favorite video game isn’t going to get updates for one month during major holidays…is for this company to force workers to take vacations at times the company deems appropriate?

Duh fuuuuuuuuuu

You mean… like how most companies operate? There’s no issue in giving everyone days off over Xmas. That’s a week, a week and half at a push. If we’re talking about 2 weeks plus, then any company that has an ongoing software comittment, or just a store to keep open…

Guess what. The entire workforce can’t go on holiday all at once. Not during Xmas, and not during the summer.

Guess what? The entire workforce is going on holiday at once. Like last year. And the year before that. And the ye-wait how many years has Fatshark been operating and growing and continuing to hire?

I appreciate you think because its a video game that the common sense for every other company doesn’t apply. You are trying to minimize opinions instead of coming up with valid counterpoints.
