If you’re reading this, Fatshark - please hear me out.
The Orthus Offensive is the most fun I’ve had in this game for a very long time, and that says a lot - because I truly adore this game. The reason I’m saying all this? I’m proposing that you don’t remove it from the game.
I also propose that the best way to do this without interrupting the usual mission cycling is to give special missions (such as the Orthus Offensive) their own tab on the Mission Terminal, as in the same thing that happened with Auric Missions.
That would’ve caught almost immediately in internal playtesting, yet they seem to consistently be crowdsourcing their playtesting and wasting paying customers’ time fixing bugs and balance issues.
What matters now is that it shouldn’t happen again with future special operations. This isn’t the complaint centre, there are other threads to voice your frustration! This is an appeal to keep these missions in the game.
I’m aware, there’s just other Gameplay Feedback threads that are more relevant to what you’re talking about! You can probably send a better message there!
So… the thing is, isn’t it already in its own assignment segment? At this point we should just be trying to confirm that they’re not going to remove the mission after a set period of time since they’ve clearly already created a “Special Assignment” which leads to another page.
The reason I suggested a new tab is because I’ve noticed that there are complaints that keeping the current format could take up space that should be for other normal missions, so I thought an extra tab for all of the Special Operations would be the best fix! With that, it doesn’t have to disappear to make room for more missions and thus we get to keep it with no real drawbacks
Honestly I would prefer if the Twins were added to a pre existing mission, like Oubliette, without the vent mechanic and randomized names.
The boss fight itself is amazing and a lot of fun. The mission itself, while looking really cool, is very boring and basically a walking simulator. People would only play the mission to teleport to the boss.
Another good idea I heard, although this could go in conjuntion with this, is have a “Lieutenant Hunting,” modifier where they can show up. Maybe Maelstrom exclusive but doesn’t have to be. Give them randomized names and let us kill them.
What I’m trying to get at is that I would like the Twins to be implemented somehow into the main game instead of cordoned off in a section that people will hardly ever play.
Also after the Twins the Scab Captain bosses are even more pathetic and boring in comparison lol.
Of course we could ask for both, one variant as a modifier for the normal missions and another as the dedicated Boss Fight! But… it’s probably too wishful of a thought.
I’d at least like the Orthus Offensive to stay because it’s a lot of fun and it’s got a lot of story value, something that this game has been severely lacking since release.
should be a random side events which make themselves accessible during normal missions for extra rewards. “Random”, dynamic objectives connected to an extra portion of a map which opens from time to time during your runs. Not half empty maps with an arena at the end of them.
Last night I was up late playing with some folks I’d met trying to unlock the Hardmode.
I haven’t had that sort of social experience with folks in this game before, and thats after this whole year. This does feel like a pretty neat addition to the game.
Could it do with a tiny bit of refining? Maybe. But I’m with Lil Aryslav here, this has been the most fun I’ve had in Darktide. And I too, freaking love this game.
I’d rather it remain a special mission that you must choose to play.
Personally, I don’t like scripted zelda-like boss fights and the twins special mission is no exception because it forces me to think about the mechanics: now go there, now attack this, now go on the other side, now attack that, in that order otherwise it won’t work. It takes me out of the immersion that I’m playing an agent of the Holy Inquisition.
So keeping the special mission outside of Quickplay guarantees I never have to play it.
