Train of Thought:
1- Game is already badly optimized
2- Solo Game hosting uses the computer of the person hosting it, rather than Fatshark Servers (Alas Vermintide 2)
Result:
Players without extreme FPS configs/file changes and without extreme PCs will get like 40 FPS when trying to Solo
If memory serves, xbox performance at the time was also pretty terrible. I can’t imagine running solo mode on the Series S going well. Running the solo mod on my quite beefy PC has noticeably (slightly) lower FPS and some stuttering during high intensity moments. Not to mention the scope creep of also needing to improve bots.
This is just a matter of implementation. Solo Mode could be as simple as allowing players to queue without a party. Performance would be identical. So would bot performance, unfortunately
It would be incredible to have a standalone Darktide client though. Let the modders do what FS is seemingly unable (or unwilling), yet again.
I also wonder for the longevity of the game since it’s dependent on servers. Stop Killing Games and all that, I hope to see the game released in full rather than dying and becoming unplayable for eternity. Hopefully not on the horizon, just yet!
I think this would be pretty great as well. I never really got into modded realm on VT2 but a Tourney balance patch equivalent would go hard in DT. Plus homebrewed Havoc modifiers.
well i mean, backfill has been broken since the battle for tertium update, any mission you start with a low timer on the board is very likely to just load you into an empty mission, and depending on the timer its rng whether you get teammates or not.
hell i can often just try to play a game of mortis trials, but because thats such a dead gamemode it just loads me in alone, which is nice cause then i can just leave if i dont get an archetype i want and retry until i do, and ill eventually get some teammates after a few rounds.
but yeah the backfill being broken ever since the mission board rework has left us with an unintended solo mode ever since, just requires you to keep track of the mission timers
one thing i have noticed though is that backfill isnt broken for campaign missions, the missions are way easier than normal because they dont have any modifiers and they still give the same amount of xp (if its a later mission in the campaign). might be something to do with the button in the mission terminal for the campaign quickplay toggle, that seems to function properly, but the regular backfill into normal missions has been broken for months…
I think it’s actually the opposite. Unlike Vermintide, in Darktide if they add solo it will still probably be hosted on Fatshark’s servers; if you have four people each playing solo, instead of playing together, that means four times the load on the servers, and they obviously don’t want that.
There is a mod call better bots. The bots are actually quite good (as far as bots go). I could finish an auric game without feeling cheap. Had a dog arbites with charge, Scum with tox pistol and dual shivs(tox build) and a psyker with bubble and flame staff. They performed well. Only one that I felt under perform (Should check again after the last update) was the flame psyker. It opted more using melee than the staff. The modder is working on it quite a bit and he keeps on improving it with minimal performance loss with solo mod.
Honestly the bare minimum of “let us pick their class and talents, their gear, and let them use their primary ability (not blitz)” would be more than enough to use them like in VT2. I say “not blitz” since those replaced grenades from VT2 and them not using grenades in VT2 was fine.
I don’t think that’s the performance issue. SoloPlay mod works fine unless you really run the game on a potato. My bets are: server cost, the coop nature of the game, cosmetics show off, coop nature of map objectives and the state of the game bots.
Or just let them implement a second layer with internal method to run the lua scripts and sub contract the community to update it for them or they just do it them selves after acquiring the code. Basically everyone can have solo and smart bots. Not sure how compatible it would be for other platforms though. Don’t think it’s the most optimized way of doing but it’s better than nothing
Doesn’t have to be if they lower the enemy AI count and nerfed the bot health a little or make them a little slower on their attacks that could drastically improve the fps. It would save FS money. As for p2p not sure how heavy that would get but it would still be a good option for game preservation. As it is now if FS decides Darktide has to go there will be no way to play the game at all. At least VT2 has everything in place to just flip it over to a local save system.
The solo game mode consumes no resource. Or, if it uses resources, it is so negligeable that you won’t see it.
This doesn’t change anything and has nothing to do with a solo game mode.
Again try the (bugguy) solo mod.
Tbh, I just play darktide from time to time.. one game at max per day. Then I switch to something else… like Arc Raiders (was killed today with all my equipment… so I was enough angry to make a little pause)
So as I don’t plan to buy again a FS game, I am less and less concerned… but still, I would like an ansxwer
