The longer we go without word, the more it seems that the 'itemization update' will be bad

When you’re addicted to that sweet sweet lie-ohol.
They’d rather die of thirst than not drink it and abstain

What’s funny is that a smart layout of perks and blessings could’ve easily fixed the RNG being so awful.

Remove ‘tiers’, make every blessing roughly the same levels of combat effectiveness in different niches, and shower people in free weapons and the RNG circus wouldn’t have been so bad. Take the Borderlands approach, in other words.

Unfortunately the system in Darktide was carefully designed to have a ton of crap perks and blessings, in four tiers each, to make the RNG as malicious as possible.

Nevermind the Borderlands route, what you describe is how the itemization worked in Fatshark’s last title.

It’s literally a “Hey we forgot all the old lessons” bit, again.

I mean even if they didn’t want to do the same thing there are plenty of ways to do long term progression that work for engaging players and providing incentives to return to earlier content. I made a post highlighting my favourite progression systems and what i liked out of them.

Brosgw also shared a lot of his as well:

There are ways to do long term progression system right but whatever Darktide is doing is not it.

As stated you need to actually give people the carrot eventually, if you just give them nothing but stick 90% of the time they are just going to go somewhere else.

Added this to the paste bin (he said dryly for even the absurdist commentary and joking demeanor of this personal past time had run its course over the close to 2 year process. Now all that remains is the dull ring of duty and obligation, unimpassioned and joyless. A Kafkaesque farce and facsimile of providing constructive feedback, and only to further the Sisyphean trial of hoping enough voices and feedback will one day be the final straw to cut the Gordian knot that is RNG, but to know deep down the futility of such an event. A tragic and unholy union of greatness married to rancour, never to be divorced despite our pleas. For their sake, as much as for our own.).

Anyways, that HD2 balance patch seems promising.

Still your rage, for it is the instrument of chaos.
Your words will break upon deaf ears. The heretics cannot grant you salvation, you must take it yourself. With unbreakable resolve and clear mind, you shall succeed.

The only thing of substance we know outside of painfully unfunny memes is a patrol spawn rate change which is literally reverting a bad change they made earlier.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Honestly I only mentioned it for [attempted] comedic effect. 100+ changes to guns SOUNDS like it could be good. I HOPE it’s good. But I have no idea.

We’ll know for sure in 3 days.

Speaking of it would be absolutely hilarious if FS releases their devblog on the same day as the HD 2 update.

Helldivers for me. Or do “you guys” mean FS?

FS has priorities? good one!

HD2: Here’s a massive list of balance changes and bugfixes that follow community sentiment closely.

DT: We now expect you to pay real money for better weapon unlocks.

Lamo the sad part is i could actually see this happening.

To be fair they did meme it but they did include a longer writeup and even more info in their meme image than we’ve gotten from Fatshark in months for anything that isn’t just a penance update.

They also at least went into detail on twitter about changes to the patching process and were focused on actually getting feedback and delivering on community feedback.

The longer we don’t receive word, the more likely monetization schemes become in my mind.

FS needs to tell us things. It’s not difficult, unless you’re determined to cosplay a deaf-mute.

Honestly if it was like… $1 per weapon. I shamefully would do it. If I would do it 8 times and just never touch crafting and itemisation ever again. Unless balance patches really forced me to.

Not that I think this is a good idea at all.

Dude if they sold red weapons, you could bet we’d suddenly be getting huge balance updates every 3 days. Oh what’s that, the weapons you bought are useless this week? Better buy some other ones!

Yeah I would bet. Oh NOW you’re suddenly all about balance changes ehhhhhh?

That and new weapons and guns… Like even if buying reds came with fancy red skins, there’s still like 64 weapons in the game? Assuming they’d be mark specific. That’s still like $64 (whatever currency you’re basing this off of).

It wouldn’t be a good time.
