The Duelling Sword Balance Problem

Yeah, I more mean ‘early on’. As now obviously it’s a busted monster even on Psyker, since there’s now a melee talent that lets you quell on weakspot kill/get peril generation reduction on top of that, so you can more reliably get Scriers Gaze stacked up and hold it at a high damage amount for a while (while getting a nice finesse bonus for when it ends). It’s a 25 second cooldown now to, so you can cycle it a LOT better than when it was at 60 seconds that only started when the ability ended, that life was pure pain.

Same goes with Disrupt Destiny, now it’s an utter monster with it now that it actually works (picks targets around the last target you killed so you can actually stack it up and keep it stacked verses it spawning your next target in the next room over and you just never having a keystone), but before it had the target spawning issues as stated, on top of losing ALL your stacks as soon as the timer ran out, not just one.

So like, while the ceiling was largely the same, reaching and maintaining it was a LOT harder, along with not having that 10% attack speed which is always just a nice bonus. Still strong ‘back then’, but not nearly as wide spread/easy to see unless you very heavily worked for it.

This is from a HAVOC 35+ perspective since that is where it shows up and is basically mandatory on zealots and vets, so the solution is:

  • nerf it a bit, reduce carapace damage and maybe finesse multiplier
  • revert giving it to zealot and vet, and make it psyker exclusive again

that solves the problem.

If the DS gets a generic damage/utility nerf, it’ll fall off from psykers the most (if not entirely) since the classes that benefit from it most natively (as in through talents on strong HAVOC builds) are vet first, and zealot second. It’ll basically remain mandatory on vet who will now three shot crushers instead of two (and still have plasma).

For the argument that the SG/DD psyker is strong with DS, see above premise - nobody runs that build in party finder HAVOC 40. And in T5 auric you can do well with anything so it doesn’t really matter.

So yea, a generic nerf will take the originally psyker exclusive away from psyker first, and leave it as mandatory for vet’s plasma build.

In conclusion, DS should not be available to all classes, and therein lies the problem.
