So, the director got adjusted with this patch to be more dangerous.
What has this resulted in?
Well, I’ve played four Damnation matches, all on the Carnival map.
It is madness.
Not even in the fun kind of way, this is just nuts. Was whoever did the adjustment under the impression that Malice was the ‘normal’ endgame difficulty? Because when you’ve been buffing enemies for a ‘fewer but more powerful’ dynamic, and then make the game director spawn them in packs of a dozen, that doesn’t allow any kind of counterplay. Especially with ragers and gunners. The former were already a PITA before this patch since the health buff made them very tanky for their obscene dps, and the latter would be workable if not for their auto-aim and the fact that six of them focus you at a time. That’s not even taking into account shotgunners, since now if you dodge one the other three-to-seven around him will just fire at you while you come out of dodge.
Please reduce the hostility of the AI director and tune down how many specials and disablers spawn. I want to have fun, not get bodied because the game puts out more HP than I can physically kill.
While I understand the issue, as part of the “give me harder challenges” crowd, I’d honestly hate to see these changes reverted.
The only thing I ask for is fixing silent and in your face clown car spawns. This is giving me VT2 flashbacks, which had the same issue for the longest time.
It teaches you to constantly have eyes in your back I reckon. You can tell that console/controller players are shtting the bed even harder because of their disadvantage
I’m fine with it being in Maelstrom and Auric, but baseline Damnation is no longer fun. Admittedly I’m kinda a scrub but beforehand things felt…manageable. Currently it feels I need an Adderall IV drip to get anywhere.
I love it! It’s nice and spicy now. There’s plenty of lower intensity options if you don’t want it spicy – you can always step it down a difficulty or run low intensity maps.
If you are complaining about the new increased intensity… Please just go play a lower difficulty or a low-intensity if you can’t handle this. This change was much needed. The previous patch made the game so boring and easy. This intensity change was a great. It actual requires teamwork in Co-op based game now. You can’t just face-roll everything now.
That remains a question to Fatshark: how much the director “profiles” differ between damn and damn with modifiers. I don’t think Carnival experience is a good example for this. Other maps dont feel as hectic, we tend to play STG.
Funny how ratgame didn’t have updates completely screw over a difficulty, save Winds of Magic. Regardless, I’m sure it won’t be too bad for more experienced players, but if the director is still too fond of pissing out gunners then it’ll be a slow, not fun slog like launch Darktide.
A pack of 20 ragers is like an early Christmas present. I always hope that no one gets them first so I can nuke them into orbit. It’s especially fun on Kickback Ogryn, Plasma Vet or Gun Psyker. With Zealot it’s a coin toss depending on how much space you have.
Personally I am liking the difficulty of Carnival though I realize for some players who only have a little bit of time after work to play, the increased difficulty could be an unwelcome surprise. The director does also sometimes seem prone to spasms. Last night I was ln carnival, damnation with no modifiers, and a whole gang of trappers and flamers spawned near simultaneously on top of each other. All the sounds of flamers heating up and trappers saying “uhehe” was loud.
Was it that wide-open space where they say you’re almost to the arena? One of our runs got bodied there with 20 shotgunners suddenly teleporting in (as in, literally out of thin air appearing).
After you cross the bridge and are walking around the outside of the arena? That’s where my trapper/flamer surprise happened, yea. Everything was quiet.
