It’s been a lot worse – the dry spell at the start of the year for one. Sure, there are some… specimens… who bring a level of cynicism to straight-up toxicity, but there’s also a pretty convincing positive trend whenever new updates drop.
As for me I think what we’re getting is only relatively better than what we have, so I’m only going to be relatively positive about it… there are still some concerning design philosophies at work:
This is the big one. To purchase anything in this game, with any currency, is to interact with an adversarial system designed to frustrate you (and spend more?).
In this, the players deserve much better than they are getting – and most likely this is a management/executive call rather than developers so that my ire is not wholly misplaced!
Homeslice, you’re both intentionally avoiding the point (that this isn’t at all uncommon among these userbases, and that you should know better) while also coming off as condescending and exclusionary over something that you can entirely chose not to interact with. Almost everyone gripes about stuff they’d do differently with their fandoms, and that’s half the talk and 40k tournaments, nobody considers other players scum or clowns for it. You don’t sound fun to play with or against across a table.
sorry chum, but the IRL tabletop community very much dislikes the online players that make up their own versions of the rules. everyone complains but everyone knows that dealing with people making up rules is worse. i’m more than happy to dunk any any nonsense rule GW forces on us if you post it (though it won’t matter long, i’m sure they’ll replace it in a month to sell the net bathc of minis) but there is no ranker cesspit than people hawking their custom rule. there’s a reason they get their own subforum everywhere you go, drama containment.
They get the hate because its mostly deserved. The communication for instance has been a joke for past 3 games already. If not for outright lies (v2 dedicated servers, darktide solo, and many others) its been misdirecting or straight up complete silence that would have honestly killed many other games by now.
Sure i give it that strawhat recently has been a light in the seemingly endless darkness so there is some hope now on that front.
I’m not going to sugarcoat this. I absolutely love the core gameplay of this game (WHEN it actually works with all the crashing and bugs) but i absolutely hate that i need to download like 20 QOL mods to make stuff like crafting, mission selection, char selection, seeing in-game ammo’s properly etc that should honestly have been options since day 1. Yet we are still lacking many of these features and best part is that many of these features are implemented in the previous game.
I could honestly rant about many things that have annoyed me over the past 2 years but it really boils down to not learning from past mistakes, repeating those mistakes and then on top of that it seems to take ages to get anything fixed. (Close range is memed to death at this point)
Yeah i do agree that fatshark devs don’t deserve death threats or other slurs thrown at them, but in no way should they be getting massively praised for fixing something like crafting after 2 years of this game being out already and crafting marketed as something it clearly was not at launch. (ffs the crafting launched in beta state)
If anything all this fixing in the past 2 years have distracted from adding the content this game desperately has been needing for a while now.
Fatshark are a good boy they didn’t do anything wrong
Oh wait they continue to do the same things wrong repeatedly and now have a overpriced low effort quality microtransaction store on top
But NOOOOOO MUST DEFEND THE COMPANY THAT MADE A PRODUCT I SPENT MONEY ON
Id say stop making posts like this but it allows people who deserve them to get likes
They do not deserve to be treated like trash, but they do deserve to be held accountable. It was only recently that they started actively communicating with the community. Most of the changes from Vermintide 2 were for the worse and it’s only now, nearly 2 years later, that some of those worse systems are being fixed after years of player feedback. There’s still no solo mode, which was “almost done” two years ago. The itemization update is coming (finally) after two years of complaints about locks and the terrible shop system. The mission board is still a shadow of what Vermintide 2 offers (hell, what Vermintide 1 offers). And that’s not even touching the fact that the game runs very poorly still after two years. There’s an entire “book of grudges” thanks to Ragnarok that details bugs/issues/missing features that have been reported/requested since launch day (or earlier in some cases).
Fatshark absolutely deserves to be held accountable for the state of the game. But there’s a difference between holding them accountable and being dickheads.
Idk, have you seen Crate Entertainment? Those guys have made two awesome games in Grim Dawn and Farthest Frontier. Their communication is amazing and they listen to community feedback promptly. They’re probably the only dev at this point where I’d insta-buy a new game from them.
I love when some gaming companies consistently screw up, there are always these “negativity bad, poor devs don’t deserve it” threads pop up from time to time. it’s amost like an AI makes those, judging by their sheer ignorance and bias.
Also worth noting that the game has been launched as a live service model rather than a standalone delivery. I’m sure there’s a great deal of blurriness in the definitions but there’s no doubt in my mind that the former carries a higher degree of expectation around content, updates, and avenues for feedback.
Practically speaking, the simple fact that they keep updating the game is the baseline expectation they’ve set themselves.
Yes. In before people say the devs never said it was live service, they don’t need to. Just implementing any sort of recurring monetisation scheme is tacitly pushing the game as a live service regardless of what they do or didn’t say.
Fatshark is a smallish game studio that loves making co-op warhammer games. That’s all they are. People need to stop getting mad at them because they’ve done this forever and we know from experience trying to harass them into “fixing” things makes them screw up worse from trying to rush. Either you’re here for the ride or you should log off and come back in a few months. Trying to use the forums to brigade the devs not only doesn’t work it makes the game worse and it should stop.
What’re you trying to say with this image? Are you mocking them for their stance or for the fact that they’re hefty white guys wearing glasses holding a knife? Certainly doesn’t add anything positive to the discussion. Imagine if I had posted the inverse of the meme, pointing to the notion of something to the effect of “I wasted my money on a game and I’m going to blame the company for me being too hasty.” Or something. You’re better than this.
