Currently, the description reads, “How much Damage done to the first Enemy Hit when hitting multiple Enemies in one swing”. The highlighted part is what I have a problem with since it is overly specific, implying that this bonus only takes place when you hit multiple enemies.
My solution would be to simply remove the highlighted section and maybe clean up the sentence after the fact if it reads too awkwardly. Maybe “How much damage done to the first enemy hit by your attack”.
I agree that your description is better and more clear.
There are a bunch of explanations in the game, that should be reworked because they are not clear or flat out wrong.
While this implication is there indeed, i think that the context makes clear that it is not meant this way, unless you expect the first target to receive a second instance of damage, the moment your attack hits a second target.
Did you look at the details during those hundreds of hours when you did not yet know how it works?
“first target” by itself really is not entirely clear, but “attack power vs first target: x1.32” is pretty clear to me.
I know that a bunch of people are not even aware that you can actually look at these stats in detail.
Maybe there should be some information on screen, telling players that you can display details when hovering over the stat bars.
Or it should be part of the tutorial.
One thing that is very confusing about weapon stats, the same modifier can / affect different properties depending on the weapon family.
I can’t recall a specific example but as a hypothetical one: stopping power on one gun could have a multiplier to both flak and carapace while on another weapon it only affects carapace damage.
Eventhough you can find the same stat on many weapons, they do not always do the same thing. You cannot simply see a weapon with f.e. mobility and know which mobility related stats it actually affects. In order to know for certain, you always have to go into the detailed breakdown screen and study each stat seperately rather than being able to infer its effects from other weapons.
But that is exactly what it does.
First target is a multiplier for the damage against the first target that each of your attacks hit.
It has no effect on anything else.
The damage numbers for light and heavy attack, displayed on the weapon itself, include the first target stat.
If you go to the meatgrinder with two weapons that are basically identical except for the first target stat, you will notice that all enemies except the first one you hit with each strike, are completely unaffected by the difference in the first target stat.
So i have no idea what it is, that you think you noticed later on.
Here, i used these swords to hit the bodies of two unarmored enemies with heavy attack 2 (swings from left to right).
The only two relevant stats in this case are damage and first target.
Mind, i had 10% bonus damage from the Warp Unleashed feat.
I am no longer at my computer to show the damage numbers against enemies, without the feat, so here is the calculation to show that the damage numbers would check out if i had not forgotten to unequip warp unleashed before these tests.
After removing that 10% dmg bonus, the first target dmg numbers are correctly represented by the dmg number in the detailed attack breakdown.
real damage/dmg multiplier from warp unleashed = weapon dmg
138/1.1=125.45 (~125)
118/1.1=107.27 (~107)
not only that, but there are unlisted modifiers to armor types that are specific to the weapons and their individual attacks (armor penetration to be specific, which dictates how much damage is removed prior to bonus damage calcs, of which rending and brittleness modify)
