The Crafting Memorial; lest we forget

I played Mass Effect series for the story. The concept of carrying over save file and see the consequences of your choices made you go back and replay, even if you could look up videos you still wanted to follow the actions that led to it. As the actions were fun itself, be good, be evil. Although being evil never made sense as scripted dialogue later was just polar personality opposite.

Just like Witcher 3. Each side quest, side companion quest was a complete self contained story that and sometimes was relevant to current events to the main story. The moral choices again same as Mass Effect and witty conversations. Story writers, Script made those games, the combat was a side feature I wanted to progress the story like reading a good book.

Ever had the sad feeling at the end when the end credits roll. You felt like your story ends there, but the companions you made along the way will continue their journey without you. That’s when you know the story made so much impact, you actually cared about the characters and forgot it was a game for a while.

Roll on Witcher 4.

Casual reminder that basically everyone who has been complaining about locks from the beginning have been able to do all the content they have the skill to do from launch.

you still don’t need your statistically perfect weapon and you don’t need a statistically preferable weapon for every blessing combo you want to try.

Shut up about locks so we can get some content worth playing … PLEASE.

i’m not playing because there is nothing to work towards outside of statistical anomalies and i would not continue playing if i could make my perfect weapon tomorrow.

i want more story, maps, weapons and earnable cosmetics.

Could we have both that and no locks? sure but fatshark has made it clear locks aren;t going anywhere can you all start whining about content so they can ignore that outside of minor changes you won’t like anyways?

no one here says the “need” anything, we “want” solid gear with the blessings we want, in the combinations we want, BECAUSE we can

so you see in Vt2, once you had reds you didn’t have to worry or even open chests, just play and enjoy, that’s what we want here but it’s way worse in darktide because they added to many new slots to the slot machine its freaking ridiculous

enjoy your stockhom syndrome

how long did you play vt2 before you had all your reds?
you played with imperfect weapons until you had them all.
you can already have solid gear with the blessings you want.
you want the best possible gear with the best possible blessings.

and you know what?

it’s easier to do now after the change.

The continued conspiracy posting about Tencent ruining Darktide comes across as just a wee bit sinophobic at best.

If you look at both Vermintide games and their itemization you can see a clear pattern emerge: Fatshark loves to add very grindy item systems to their games. They clearly believe that chasing loot is part of the continued appeal of their games.

In Vermintide 1 you got one piece of random loot for finishing a level, and probably wasn’t even for the character you were playing. In Vermintide 2 they decided to ape the lootbox idea that was running rampant in the industry in 2018. And now in Darktide they’ve decided to copy more Diablo/gacha style super random items.

It’s also crystal clear that they push the boundaries, and wildly miss the goddamn mark, every goddamn time. In Vermintide 1 everyone hated their stupid RNG fest so much that Fatshark added in the Contracts system after a year of pussyfooting around. In Vermintide 2 everyone hated their lootbox bull**** so much that after 6 months they increased red & cosmetic drop rates by an order of magnitude and then implemented red crafting shortly thereafter. And, once a-****ing-gain, in Darktide everyone hates their idiotic lottery ticket items that are somehow worse than actual gacha games.

Ahhh this still applies. I just had to bring this back.

I played 600 hours and got all reds for every weapon and trinket (before DLCS came in).

You can play 10,000 hours of darktide and you will never get perfect weapons for every weapon type.

I don’t get why people don’t understand that the ability to clear content with suboptimal equipment isn’t an argument whatsoever against players being able to acquire optimal equipment in a timely manner.

Yup, the opinions in this community is obviously sided to removing locks vs ones that justify it. Do not even need a poll, that is why I don’t participate in arguments with people. Too plain and simple.

They don’t understand it isn’t just about optimising or meta. It is having fun trying different things.

i.e. Division 2 I always mention I know. But they have builds dedicated to bleed, burn, explosive, poison, single target and even AOE builds. Interesting and fun, even if not optimum. Different fun ways to do same boring missions.

I never try to validate and argue with those that simpy don’t understand. Soon as I see they write nonsense, ignore. Saves time or use block button. I urge others to do the same and not give people satisfaction of response.

You can also run a marathon with bare feet or go tobogganing with naked lower back and no toboggan. The question is: what for?

The point here is not the difficulty or doability of the maps. Hell, on this forums you have guys that can solo clear a damnation run with a wet towel rolled into a forbidden beating carrot or a chainaxe, which occupies the same power level.

The point is, that the current system does not allow you to try out and play the weapon / blessings combos you actually want.

I would not treat Fatshark as a single entity here.

Locks are the idea of some game designer with a very large ego. And it seems this person has enough clout within the organization to outweigh the player community.

But there are other people at Fashark that are more sympathetic towards us. We must continue to give them munitions.

Then, one day, what must happen will happen.

Exactly this. I want to play different things. My idea of fun isn’t pulling a roulette lever every mission hoping the number lands. It’s being able to try many builds and playstyles.

I’ll add that if this game didn’t have any perks or blessings I would still play it. If they just had a variety of different unique weapons that would be enough to keep me entertained for hours. I think deep rock is a perfect example of this.

I like to compare Darktide to a wagyu steak sandwich. The meat is amazing, it’s almost always enjoyable, full of flavour, etc. But the bread is mouldy and all Fatshark does is pull off bits of mouldy AND non-mouldy bread and fill in the hole with crumbs. If they replaced the bread completely or just had the steak by itself it would be so much more enjoyable.

I would be playing a lot more if the blessings weren’t terribly balanced and instead made each weapon unique and specialized rather than just having a few +Power ones that are indisputably BIS and the rest being niche at best.

Like, take Adhesive Charge for example. It’s only sticking to Monstrosities. If it was every enemy, it would make the Rumbler a lot more interesting and change it from shooter suppression to general horde clear.

Raking Fire is another good example - it encourages you to backstab. You could pair this with other blessings to make it so you build some horrific crit-bleed monstrosity on Zealot that acts like the Spy from TF2 to anything important.

If Blessings made every weapon noticeably different and we could pick which ones we put in, it’d make customization actually custom and encourage a lot of people to try out new things. I know that I still experiment whenever I boot up TF2 these days, just to see what weird nonsense I can do.
