I actually want very little change. And please note this isn’t an important issue for me. Its a minor scratch that I mention now.
I essentially want some new dialogue lines, a look like Solomon Kane in the movie instead of that present look and the title “Road Warden” instead of Bounty Hunter. Like I said, I love the gunslinger concept, I just can’t see Salty as someone working for blood money.
No, you mentioning it makes it a big deal, now give me something to argue about reee.
You’re right about the voice lines, tho. Feels like the only careers that get a unique piece of dialogue are Huntsman and Unchained. Everything Saltzpyre says is Witch Hunter Captain related. BH career is supposed to be disgraced Saltzpyre who has to hunt bounties to afford paying Kruber.
Its more or less only lore and aestethics. I like the gameplay but I don’t buy that Salty would go to collect blood moeny, he’s to much of an idealist to stomach that kind of work, and if you’ve seen the movie Solomon Kane that’s the kind of look I would like for “Salty the Gunslinger”.
Indeed, but even so Salty as a bounty hunter makes no sense to me. He is, in my opinion, not cold or selfish enough to essentially do anything he’d be paid for. I really doubt that even if he needed money he could manage to take whatever job he can get to keep the cash flowing.
Doing some work on the side as a Road Warden seems much more in Salty’s direction.
What would have shaken things up, would have been a magic using career for those who didn’t had one yet, but in turn I have no idea what could have been made for Sienna then.
Nah I reserve the next spot (which should be in roughly 2 years) for my Swordmaster of Hoeth.
I want to be able to deflect those annoying arrows with a 2h sword!
Personally I am thinking that perhaps we could get something daring like, and berserker focused career? We’ve got crowd controllers, boss killers and elite smashers in addition to at least two sniper careers. But I don’t think we’ve got something dedicated to killing frothers and plague monks (not to mention Nurgloth…).
I suspect that many may think that berserkers are to uncommon for that. But if I experienced them as getting less rare and so a career with an angle to take them down could be a possibility.
… I don’t think you know what being a bounty hunter is about Doing anything just for the money is more of a Mercenary thing (it is in the name of the term).
Not necessarily. Mercenaries and Bounty Hunters alike don’t have to accept employments or bounties. Mercenaries are hired fighters and Bounty Hunters are tracking down specific … erm … sentient beings.
The tool for this would be the Blunderbuss, available to five careers. The also handle maulers with ease and are good for making hordes go missing.
Well, I disagree. Mercenary annd Bounty Hunters are the same kind of people, they just do different parts of the market. Mercenary is more military and bounty hunter is more of a private alternative to law enforcement.
In both cases its about doing whatever the clients want in exchange for a bag of money. A bounty hunter with scruples beyond self-preservation is a bounty hunter that often goes hungry.
The ranged classes deal the highest damage and are made specifically to burst down or pick out high priority targets. Berserkers are high priority targets.
The terms are very well and clearly defined. Your disagreement is immaterial. A Bounty Hunter and a Mercenary are not the same, the only common ground they have is that they take money. By this logic, a bounty hunter is the same as a beekeeper because he sells honey for money. A bounty hunter works in official capacity, either as a bail agent (modern times) or someone to take captive wanted criminals, fugitives (and in the case of a fantasy world: maybe monsters). He does not run around killing people for money. That profession is called “hitman”. If the reward has not been advertised by some kind of official capacity (thus making bounty hunters part of the legal system), it is not a bounty, you are not a bounty hunter, but a mercenary (a hitman being a very specialized mercenary). Not wanting to nitpick, but a bounty hunter is not a mercenary by any stretch of the imagination.
I am 100% you guys are just trying to screw around with me. I am a bit tempted to screw around with you in return, but since I don’t want the thread locked or be part of the a forum degeneration I will resist.
OK, so what would this berserker career bring to the table?
I would actually appreciate anothet berserker career, so that Slayer is not alone. Maybe something tied to the cult of Ulric, but that would be hard to implement.
This thread was necrod and originally about an entirely different career. If you plan on starting a topic about a career that is anti-berserk type enemies, I would suggest you explain what it’s core would be and also tell us why we’d need and want such a career.
Warrior Priest of Ulric would have been my prefered choice as 4th Kruber carreer, but I am glad we got something alot more original and surprising than that with Grail Knight.
My main point is recall explaining your idea behind the class. It seems that the people that are replying to you (me included) don’t get why we would want any class that specialises in killing berserkers. That’s why you get suggestions like the blunderbuss and using ranged, because that’s pretty much all it is to it if you want to trivialize it. Creating an entire class revolving around killing berserker type enemies seems way overkill in terms of specialisation.
So please do explain why it would be attractive to a player to pick such a class. What would it bring to the table that a blunderbuss or a push-back ult can’t? What game mechanics would it use to handle berserkers with ease, only increased stagger and killing power (against bers) or something else entirely?
I think I’ll take you up on this challenge and will see about getting a thread out with some berserker focused careers.
The main reason is probably that I hate berserkers, but I do love hating them, and that I think that more can probably be done in regards to this enemy. Note that I don’t want a one-trick-ponny but a career which can take on all other enemies, but with a special edge against berserkers. If for no other reason than to add variety and I can’t think of many anti-berserker careers.
And yes, push back and blunderbuss/shotgun are very useful. But if you don’t got a blunderbuss/shotgun and have already used an ult to take care of some berserkers a few seconds before in the event you’re playing, then it could be magically useful with a career that can actually reliably take on berserkers.
