The BoltPistol is unfortunately bad

I’m still not totally clear on if the Bolt pistol has a big difference on ADS vs normal. It seemed with the regular bolter, (which I never used much,) that it was more then autofire, but the shells were more grenadey on hip and more pen on ADS, but I might be wrong on that since I was usually more into other weapons.

But with the bolt pistol it feels like ADS and hip have less difference, though if I could get a decent site on it with a mod later I might decide otherwise.

I was running it as a sort of speical skiller/soften up bleed AOE number with Lethal Proximity (Near shots also causes an Explosion. In addition, the Explosion Radius is increased by +10-25%) and Puncture (hits cause bleed stacks) and it seemed pretty good, but would be better if easier to aim.

I agree that going surgical shouldn’t be the best because other weapons can do that better, but I just couldn’t make the weapon “work” any other way (on Vet at least).

0 cleave combined with slow firerate and low damage completely kills the weapon as a quick swap removal tool against specials/elites, while using it as an actual gun… Well it’s just not good.

It’s a shame really, I like the concept of explosive bolts and bleed on hit, and would have loved to swap my Laspistol to Bolt Pistol on my commissar build, but it just… it just doesn’t work.

Bleed needs to apply to all in AOE as an AOE bleed bomb. That stacks more stacks each time they’re hit; no cap.

So the gun can be used by anyone besides Ogryn and it is barely average with a specific Vet build (who is meant to be the ranged weapon class) which means it’s crap for everyone else, hence it’s crap in general.
Take a look at the revolver (and try to put aside that it’s overtuned with ghandcannon/surgical). Works on everyone, even without the OP stuff. You point it at your enemy, pull the trigger, and they’re gone.
When a Trapper is running towards me during a horde (and actually makes a sound), I don’t want them staggered or bleeding, or whatever. I want them dead. I don’t have time for shooting 4-5 times, or waiting for a crit when there are enemies around me…
I’ll be honest, I expected the Boltpistol to be OP on release as it’s an iconic 40k weapon, but they pulled almost the polar opposite.

The only time I need to pull out a gun when playing Zealot is when a Trapper, Grenadier, or Gunner is about to spill my guts on the floor. Dogs can be a pain too if they fly into a wave after being pushed.

With the Zarona all I need to do is make space, aim in the general direction, press Q, left click (sometimes twice), press Q, and be done with that situation. You dont need to worry about any potential meat catching the bullet since it will fly right through. Same situation with the Bolt Pistol? See clip above.

I know already this is going to spark the Zarona rage again, but other guns I like on Zealot, like the Pina Shotgun, the braced Pina, and the heavy Laz dont have trouble with those situations either.

If the BP would be guaranteed to kill what I hit, I would be fine with all its negative quirks, but even if a Bolt hits targets it hardly deals any damage. It just knocks stuff around.

It works… however they must address the headshot problem on bolt pistol. I don’t even ask for more accuracy, the gun is enough accurate.

In my opinion, Bolt Pistol needs these changes:

  • 10 ammos per clip
  • slight boost of base damages
  • headshot fix

This is directly the consequence of what if Revolver and what is bolter in Darktide. Bolt Pistol is fine about its weakness on infected, this is the normal weakness of Bolter. However revolver has:

  • a cleave incredible (and that should be nerfed to not allow it at long range)
  • can headshot easily that permits the “one bullet one dead”
  • 5 bullets at full capacity vs 8 for Bolt Pistol. So 5 kills (not including cleave) vs 4 at most (not including explosion damages).
  • can snipe far away
  • less recoil

In short, Revolver is better on anything except staggering and the fact that bolt pistol has an AOE damages.
It needs to be a little more powerful to find its niche. Headshot problem is really something annoying on the bolt pistol, especially if you don’t pick lethal proximity.

PS: I know… double post… however one hour later…

i think it should have a projectile model big enough to pop all 3 bueboes in one shot, (because the explosion is not doing it unfortunally)
