So how do we feel about the new weapons?

Rough consensus I’ve seen:

Bolt pistol: depending on blessing is either jank af or a better revolver

Picks: Why do we need Thunder Hammer again?

Shock Maul: unknown

Shotgun: unknown

Bolt pistol needs to have its wobbly and exaggerated recoil drastically reduced and it’s mag capacity increased to an even 10 from 8. Right now it’s functionally a worse zarona revolver.

Picks are decent from what I’ve seen so far. Besides being a strange concept to implement in the first place, I have no complains. Still would need to do more testing to see if they’re better AP than folding shovels. Right now I can’t say for sure.

Shock mauls are interesting and not that bad. Only tried it on my vet so far but I can imagine it’s real good on the zealot.

Shotgun I still haven’t tried but I watched someone use it and it seemed underwhelming.

Wait, you are telling me the pickaxe doesn’t have a vertical attack like v2 one?

It does, depending on the variant.

Can’t try them cause I keep getting sever disconnect errors lol. But I agree.

My current plan is to take the shock maul for a spin tonight on my psyker for crowd-control, we’ll see how it performs. After a few matches to rebuild plasteel I’ll give shotgun zealot and bolt pistol vet a try.

Clearly the previous tank ogryn nerf was in preparation for the Slow and Steady blessing on the pickaxe. Can’t wait to try it out.

If the bolt pistol can be spec’d in any way to kill shooters quickly I could see a use case there.

I heard the shotty is good but I haven’t seen a lot of actual footage or numbers.

Shockmaul looks interesting with the blessing options, no clue how it performs though

alt fire on shotty seems to give 2.5x damage instead of the 2x you’d assume. basically a slightly stronger Kantrael, but without being able to aim it has even more pathetic range. also funny to me: they wanted to make less all or nothing case blessings, and here’s one for the ironhelm hacker that buffs reload time only if you use alt fire and kill something (no unyielding burst damage for you).

My problem is that I just have zero interest in this set of weapons.

The Bolt pistol is probably the most interesting, but pistols aren’t my bag in this game in general, and I have trouble seeing where this is doing something the Revolver does not. I think this is more a problem with Revolver concept in general taking too much of the same design space and needing to be massively overtuned to justify its existence.

Picks and break action shotguns sound like something appropriate to RDR2, they’re just not what I’m loading up a 40k game to play with regardless of how good they may be.

I might try the Shock Maul after the crafting rework, but they’re not interesting enough for me to look at with the existing system.

The revolver is probably the most egregious balance criminal in the whole game. I’ve no idea why it’s so damn strong when bolt pistols exist as a thing in 40k. It should be more like a quick and medium penetrating, fast shooting run and gun thing instead of the handheld autocannon it now is.

One thing I’ll mention, feedback wise, is the new 3rd person animations on the picks and the bolt pistol are HORRIBLE. I don’t know how else to say it, they just look real goofy, stiff and sloppy. It’s like they got some trainee to make 'em.

Bolt pistol - Joke. You need to jump through a thousand hoops to one tap a dog on damnation with a vet.

Shotgun - ok on zealot if you happen to run out of knives as it swaps very quickly

Shock maul - it’s fun with a good moveset. Blessings seem buggy, gotta do some testing.

Pickaxes - Good. Finally an ogryn weapon with interesting movesets

All in all of say a 5/10 update. Nothing to write home about. It’s all marred by the abysmal crafting. I’ve already spent an hour rolling trying to get the new blessings and wasted way too much plasteel and dockets. I’m probably going to play a few maps this week and shelf the game again until October.

What they should do is just delete the revolver all together with the release of the bolt pistol then give the bolt pistol basically the same killing ability but with more explosive power etc. This is coming from someone who has used a revolver for 700+ hours.

There is no way to justify the existence of a revolver existing 40k years in the future outdamaging a bolter. Then again we got a combat knife that out performs every melee weapon in the game so ya know.

The revolver should have great unarmoured/maniac damage, impact and decent accuracy at medium range with armour damage falloff, which would then complement a bolt pistol’s (and bolter’s) armour damage, no damage falloff from range but relative lack of mass penetration. Right now, with certain blessings, the revolver has almost everything.

I feel like for the revolver to actually perform on the level it does currently that thing would need to be an Ogryn weapon lol. If you compare shooting a bolter and a revolver in terms of headshots, the revolver feels much more satisfying and it feels like you should be shooting this massive weapon but… its just a revolver.

double barrel feels like a worse shotgun does nothing in particulary good except that it has build in cleave with it’s shots. But realistically? WHy would I want this? if i cant reliable kill specialists this weapon is worthless for vet at least.

Bolt pistol? Worst handling for the fact the only “good blessings” are surgical / 100% critical headshot dmg. Proof me wrong but those were the ones which worked as intended I hardly saw any impact on the other blessings. It requires to much “skill” to handle this weapon to hit headshots revolver does it better or any laspistol. So why bother? It cant stagger bulwarks/ crusher that much idk.

Shockmauls so far are fun I use the gimmick where if I block at the right time I shock them and use the electric % dmg blessing.

That’s all I know

I hate being so negative but man it really feels like they don’t actually playtest their weapons they just do everything on paper and say “this will work well”. This is why it’s so important to have dev’s that actually PLAY the game across all characters. No one in their right mind would of released a bolt pistol that’s a worse version of a REVOLVER. The only way that happens is if they don’t actually play the game itself and just make tons of assumptions, hence what we got.

Shock maul : Fun weapon, unintuitive moveset but works really well once you have learned it, awesome crowd control/panic option for a more range focused build

Pickaxes : Crushers worst nightmare, ok at crowd control, doesn’t need stupidly rare blessings to work, 9/10 best weapon of the patch

Shotgun : useless for vet and psyker, ok option for zealot. Weird blessings but can work well in some builds

Bolt pistol : Lol, lmao even. The regular revolver absolutely EATS the niche of the bolt pistol. Swap the damage and penetration stats of the revolver and bolt pistol around, make the bolt pistol the superior anti armor option and it might be worth using despite its terrible handling and horrendous sway (buff the regular bolter with it, a bolt weapon should never deal less damage per bullet than a regular revolver, especially considering all the downsides of the two bolt weapons currently in the game)

Shock Mauls seem good but have horribly bad stagger on Carapace, probably to incentivize the use of the special attack. The new Blessings really are a mixed bag.

Also, I would not use them on Zealot with Fury of the Faithful : they are bugged.

Tell me your secrets!

For me it feels like absolute crap.
