Havenât read any back and forth just wanna throw in my own two cents discussing something about crafting other than just âitâs badâ.
I actually also like the idea of a âwork with what youâve gotâ kind of system where you build around what you have rather than what you would ideally want. Thatâs the kind of diversity and decision making that make some roguelikes compelling to me.
Unfortunately Darktide does a poor job of this for me by doing a generally bad job of balancing stats, blessings and perks against each other. Having sub optimal gear rarely leads to playstyle variety, and more often just leads to a weapon taking more hits to kill things with few advantages to counter that. There are a few cases where utility blessings actually affect your gameplay like stripped down, ghost, blood letter, manstopper and make a good argument for themselves over just stacking damage and power as effectively as possible.
Manstopper and flechette arenât ground breaking but at least they allow for interactions like weapon specialist guaranteed crit effect to be used to build into what youâve got going on and potentially define more of your playstyle around. Not saying they succeed entirely to be clear but at least itâs something.
While we are wading through dreck as things are currently, it would be nice to at least give us more opportunities to dodge a bunch of the garbage options theyâve given us.
However, if FS was to address things in their itemisation update not by giving us more agency, but instead making options more streamlined (remove or rework blessings that give basically the same effect as others at less output eg some of the cleave blessings), and focused on instead balancing stats, perks, and blessings against each other, giving stronger utility effects to compete with damage options, perhaps some stronger effects generally on more difficult conditions, then honestly I could see myself being being hype for that.
Like what if BCR could be stacked to the point of negating a crusher overhead here and there with blocks. That would definitely make me more interested in seeing a BCR perk pop up on my weapon. There are many options and utilities that could be explored here thatâs just an easy example using something that already exists but is largely ignored.
Hereâs the kicker though, if they went that route theyâd need to do a really good job of getting the balance and relative strength of our options right. I donât think theyâve displayed the proficiency in balancing to be relied upon to do this. It would probably be safer for everyone if they go the route to just give us more agency. Takes pressure off them to get the balancing right lol.
