Tbh, i feel like we should get another enemy, one that is a foil to the sniper

alright, so, the basic idea i’ve got is that it’s an assassin like the spy from team fortress 2.

their main attack would be a back stab that does a high amount of damage, this can be countered by turning around often and just keeping an eye out.

their secondary attack is just them shooting you with a pistol, a stub pistol specifically. it would ignore toughness but that’s most of it’s power, the damage it deals is small, being only 20 damage to the player. they’ll only ever use this in a horde though since a backstab would be hard to do if you’re blocked by their comrades.

their abilities are the grappnel and the cloak, but they will also drop smoke bombs to hinder you when you see them.

they’ll use the grappnel and cloak when they’re seen, cloaking and then shooting the grappnel to a far away spot and will look for an opportunity to back stab a player. the cloak will have a slight sheet to it an will be hard to spot but still possible, the grappnel would be heard from across the room due to its volume.

the smoke bombs would be used in a horde to prevent the player from being able to see too many enemies and thus would prevent the player from seeing ranged enemies such as trappers, hotshot volley gunners, and hell-gunners, along with all other types of gunner, not including the snipers.

the assassin would know if there is a horde going on by doing an enemy check that would stay relevant to the difficulty, for instance, if a sedition horde is 50 enemies, the assassin will spawn as long as there are still at least 35 enemies.

the assassin spawn sound would be a grappnel launcher and a feminine giggle as if she’s a
spotted hyena warning her prey that it is in her territory.

hey dying sound will be a cough then she’ll drop a smoke grenade, at which point the body will be gone and then she’ll laugh and warn, “i’ll be back, my prey” with a cackle and the sound of the grappnel launcher.

the enemy would wear mostly yellow as she is part of the cult but she also wears white bandages to cover her stomach where she has been cut open and had augmetics packed in. she wears baggy pants and bandages on her feet and on her upper body is a tattered shirt and a mask that covers her entire head. her back however, has her backpack of grenades, ammo, and the cloaking device she uses.

please give me feedback, constructive and polite.

A another enemy that can
-backstab you for massive damage
-turn invisible
-shoots you with a revolver that ignores toughness
-throw smoke bombs

I think you’re describing a miniboss

Honestly this thing sounds like it would be a massive annoyance that will just snipe runs instantly. Darktide is all about responding to and managing what you see and hear (it’s why the silent specialists bug is so infuriating) this enemy is somewhat antithetical to the rest of the enemy design in darktide. While you’re focusing on elite and specialist spam she comes out and can immediately start doing thoughness ignoring damage and instantly picking off a player who doesn’t anticipate the tf2 spy while making gunners that are hamming you unable to be seen.

As said current mini bosses are big and obvious for a reason.
This one just seems like ok have a zealot bring a flamer or psyker a with the meta staff and start spy checking the moment her sound plays.

when did i say revolver? i said stub pistol. they look like 1911s

the counter to the backstab is just turning around. she doesn’t wear a ton of armor. you can see the invis via the sheen it gives off. the smoke bombs are just the ones from the vet which are
almost useless. the gun she shoots you with ignores toughness because it’s already weak with it’s 20 flat damage. even a psyker can take that and get to a med station.

i do see where you’re coming from, but she’s meant to be something akin to the spy from TF2 but on the side of the enemy and with smoke bombs. this isn’t something extremely overpowered, she’s just mean to punish players who don’t look out for problems, her entrance sound is also a que to start looking around and keep your eyes peeled instead of doing whatever you’ve been doing, presumably flirting with the upside down mop in the corner of the nurgle infested hab block and STILL getting rejceted, but that’s neither here nor there.

start looking around, shoot anything that looks disrorted, she’ll go down easy. but she’ll be back if you don’t watch out like you should.

I feel like Mutant and Hound are more of the foil to Sniper than an assassin/backstabber specialist.

  • Silent vs loud
  • Glass cannon vs tougher but less damaging (for Mutant at least)
  • Ranged vs melee

Atm there are quite a few Specialist (and some elites) I could see being introduced:

Summary
  • Dreg and Scab Rogue Psyker
→ Dreg Burster: Generate a Blight Boil on the ground (or multiple smaller ones) from afar, which explodes and cause corruption around them (can be destroyed to avoid the explosion
→ Dreg Burrower: Generate tendril from the warp that follow the ground before coming out near the rejects, causing damage
→ Dreg (Dirge of Decay) Dirge: Simply throw bolts of Pestilence (could also see it be a secondary attack for the 2 Dreg Psykers
→ Scab Gazer (Infernal Gaze): Unholy power streams from the Chaos psyker’s eyes, charring and melting everything caught in its path. (Beam attack that does good damage, and cleave anything moving)
→ Scab Shrieker (Deamonshriek): Emit a shriek that will wreak toughness and toughness generation
->Scab Blazer (Coruscating Blaze): Generate a warp bomb before throwing it
->Scab Empyrean (Empyric Shield): Generate a Warp Shield around himself
→ Warp Shock: Alternate attack of the Scab Psykers

  • Dreg Sniper: Exchanging the Longlas with a Needler Sniper Rifle; missing the beam, but having the same thing Battlefield does with the optic creating some lights reflections, deal less damage, but deal it in corruption.

  • Dreg Mauler (Elite): Same animations as the Scab Mauler, but no armour, having Maniac and Unyielding (mutated part of the body)

  • Scab Plasmagunner (Elite): Reaper level/rarity ranged elite, act as longer ranged Shotgunner

  • Scab Endurant/Trench Sweeper (Normal or Elite): Either simply Bruiser with shields, or propper elites with shields (maybe breakable)

  • (Dreg) Plaguebearer: Unyielding equivalent to the Crusher
→ Sniveler: Using it’s sneezing as a ranged attack, equivalent to the Crusher

This is a horrible idea…and a horrible take.

Horrible idea… I don’t know what difficulty you play on, but I can’t imagine scouring pixels for some invisible enemy in the sheer enemy spam that is Havoc 40 or HISTG Auric

I think that enemy would be incredibly annoying. There are too many abilities going for it I’d say; the specials we have now are either pretty dumb or very slow, giving you a chance to pick them off. The “spy” has rapid escape via grapnel, smoke to obscure, and a low-visibility shielding cloak.

I feel also that having enemies going cloaked in DarkTide, where the colour palette and general darkness makes catching things out of the side of your eyes tricky already… well, having something cloak in a melee scrum then backstab you. Urgh. There’d be non-stop forum rage.

I mean - just paring it back. Silent crushers smacking you from behind is already enough of an issue that relies on you turning around frequently.
