Since this was something i've wanted for awhile, i've decided to come up with an idea for an assassin as a dreg version of the sniper!

Dreg Assassin boss.

attacks.

1: smoke bomb.

Effect: once thrown, the bomb will let out a large area of smoke that will blind the players/bots but buff any enemy melee attacks. this will also always be a warning about another attack from the assassin boss.

2: melee.

Effect: the boss will use their grappnel launcher to get to/behind a player and deliver a devastating melee strike. if the target is in smoke, the boss will instead just charge in and use their shortsword to attack normally for the same amount of damage.

3: gunshots.

the boss will use their grappnel launcher to get high up and will use a rifle to shoot the players/bots. if the targets are in smoke, the boss will instead use a revolver to shoot without using the grappnel launcher.

4: caltrops.

the boss will drop these in any area that is frequented by the players/bots.

utilities.

1: grappnel launcher.

the boss will use it to zip away in the players/bots get too close when the boss is at low health without help.

2: body double.

the boss will call on body doubles to trick the players while the real boss prepares frags, which will then be lobbed in random places near the players/bots. the real one will always have glowing red eyes, the rest will always have green eyes.

3: stimulant.

the boss will use a stimulant to buff itself and any other units nearby.

Desperation.

when the boss is desperate, they will summon body doubles and all of them will throw smoke bombs and caltrops. this time, they will all have red eyes, but only the boss will have the hood. the boss also has a chance to throw more frags when desperate, without the preparation, instead using their grappnel launchers to zip around and avoid being hit.

once the body doubles are dead, the boss will summon more and will attempt to call for a captain as backup. once the captain arrives, the team will have to fight both of them and win or else they lose, however, if the captain does not arrive before the team kills the boss, then the team will get a vox from Zola saying “the heretic captain has been captured and will be interrogated. expect a new servitor cleaning the lavatories at some point.” with interrogator rannick responding “oh joy, i do so love a happy ending.” in jest.

the boss would wear a dark-red cloak with a hood. their entire body would be covered and they would have goggles that glow red. they would have a bag, a bolt-action rifle, and a revolver all visible. they would also have a short sword on their hip. their right arm would have a grappnel launcher and they would wear all black under their cloak. they would have no voice, instead just crackling, beeping, and buzzing when they talk, the crackles being signals being sent out to the other enemies so that in case they’re heard, they can’t be understood by the rejects or any actual military units.

their normal counterpart would be simple.

scab assassin normal.

attacks.

1: shoot.

assassin will shoot the player with a revolver.

2: melee.

assassin will cut player with a sword.

3: smoke.

assassin will throw a smoke bomb, letting off a small amount of smoke.

utility.

1: grappnel launcher

assassin will use the grappnel launcher to zip around and get to high places to stay out of melee range and be hard to hit with ranged.

2: stim.

assassin will administer a speed stimulant to increase speed and damage if said assassin is running out of fellow heretics. this will only effect the assassin.

the assassin will not attack in a horde.

the assassin is dressed in a dark red, hoodless cloak, they also wear glowing green goggles and under the cloak, all black. they also have a small bag on their hip to hold ammo, stims, and smoke bombs. they have a feminine voice, here are some voice lines

“prey spotted, engaging.”

“i have spotted the targets.”

“i will pass this final test.”

“tonight, the warband loses four fools.”

the normal assassins do not have a desperation mechanic like the bosses.

i like the concept, but with how bosses make their brief pitch and cameo before getting flattened in less then a minute,

i think all this 10 step kung fu would hardly even come to pass in the games combat-flow right now :man_shrugging:

might be a reason why dev time wouldnt be put into such details, just a guess.

as for the “normal roster” ? keep em coming, cant have a too diverse paint palette to paste them greenish walls with innards

Are you speaking of a Special (Dreg Version of the Sniper, a Special), or a Lord/Assassination target/Monster ?

Tbh Sneak/Assassin doesn’t really fit as a Dreg take of a Sniper (which imo should either be a Sorcerer with Vile Contagion for example; or a Cultist armed with some Neddle Gun, but that would just be Sniper but corruption).

I wouldn’t mind more partially-invisible enemies like the stalkers from KF. Scab Assassins or Sneaky Dreg Cultists with big ol’ injectors.

They could be like reverse shotgunners in the sense they cloak to get close, try a single strike, and if they get found out or fail, flee while taking pot shots. Just like the spies from TF2 except without the one-shot.
