This last update seems to have forgotten about these weapons in general. Could these and other reworks be on the horizon? Shovel is basically turbo club now. It even gets almost all of the same breakpoints following the left side of the tree. Could smash ogryns get a teeny bit of love? Like a moveset overhaul for the other 2 clubs like the 2 krourk cleavers got?
Clubs are servicable, Crusher is easily the worst weapon in the game. Do you remember the “other” braced autoguns exist? Here hoping that that rumoured weapon patch is coming soon and is going to do something about all those forgotten weapons.
Personaly prefer mk1 club, it’s faster than shovel which is very helpfull on conditions like waves of mutants, can oneshot dog with heavy, while shovel can’t (maybe with vs infested)
Those muties can all get crisped by the shovel with the left side (which is where all the juicy bonk benefits are for heavy attack oriented weapons like these anyway). The shovel’s strikedown heavy is the fastest of the ogryn weapons, basically the only thing it doesn’t do is dab on crushers as hard.
But only Mk1 can do that because the combos and attacks are slow on Mk2, and Mk3b is just defective in general (bad on carapace, bad on maniac, 4 target limit on its best horde attacks).
Maybe a moveset overhaul would be cool here. Like I have no idea why Mk2 needs its strikedown on L4, it should be L1 instead so it has an alternate single damage combo route vs Mk1. Mk3B needs a massive increase in heavy speed, and should probably have less push cost than the rest of the clubs if we have to double bonk our way through maulers and crushers.
Zealot’s crusher could really use Brutal Momentum, which turns Ogryn’s maul into an actual weapon instead of a stagger rod…
Mk 1 feels pretty good to me after patch, which makes sense since it’s the most heavy attack centric one and Ogryn tree gives a lot of benefits for heavy attacks. Haymaker no longer resetting from mixing in lights and push attacks also makes it feel a good bit better to me. The other 2 I’ve never enjoyed.
The buff to the enemies really didn’t help either. I really think we need a bunch of enemies getting actually struck for any point of damage for both clubs to achieve some relevance. Along with speed increases obviously, since they’re the only ones not getting animation/loop speed buffs or infinite hit mass like the slab shield.
The shovel already has the advantage of stronger light attacks. Here’s a comparison of the buffs between the 2:
1st Target: 70, 126 to 70, 126.
2nd Target: 25, 45 to 40, 72.
3rd Target: 20, 28 to 30, 54.
4th Target: 0, 0 to 25, 45.
5th Target: 0, 0 to 20, 36.
6th Target: 0, 0 to 10, 18.
Club went from 99, 49, 25 and nothing else to 99, 45, 33, 23. Kinda not even a buff, which is why I guess they didn’t feel like posting it in the notes. The heavies weren’t even touched and still have damage distribution curve like the old chainsword (75% damage to target 2, 13% on target 3 and no targets hit after that).
They could at least use the hit mass fully, as with the shovel, and just make the cleave damage distribution low. You’re already starting pretty weak at 99 damage.
