Talent Trees Deep Dive

I mean I’m not looking forward to playing with Gunlugger that clears 12 elites in 2 seconds. Probably going to dodge a lot of Qs until it gets nerfed. Zealot builds look super fun tho.

@Nish-

As I said, I desperately want to be wrong.

Like bolter Veterans does now? That said, unsure why they would give Gunluggers the ability to gain rending, even if it’s only for the duration of point-blank barrage. And it seems like that the fire stacks upgrade works through bulwarks shield, most likely unintended. Guess we’ll find out when the patch comes out.

No like double that and then more, it’s brutal. It also just eats hordes and as you said there is the fire stacking too. Ogryn also still has the 300 base health and 3 wounds, with now a lot of Toughness TDR and Tregen too.

Oh and there is the Burst Limit Override that goes to 8% and has some ridiculous synergy with Charmed reload. It looks absolutely busted.

Oh and don’t let the long cooldown fool you, there is CDR on elite kill on the tree.

I’m hoping the mods for it will make it do things other than pure defensive buffs. Defense is usually not the best use of an option slot in this game.

I played a ton of overwatch before they decided to take it out back and shoot it. Yes, I know exactly what you mean, and I expect a lot of the same here.

It’s why I think the bubble shield is going to be a nothingburger here.

We’ll see - I played Vet for the Guardsman experience and I’m sure he’ll still offer that.

With volleyfire still being able to highlight ranged enemies (not shooters this time so maybe stalkers ar included) and still replenishing after a highlight kill it’ll still be the go to class for anti shooter work. It’ll still be the only class featuring the Helbore lasgun and if I now can throw some more melee or team buff oriented skills into the cocktail I’ll be happy.

I’m definitely trying some commando and squadleader builds so lots of tinkering for my two vet characters.

And if the other classes are actually stronger in balance terms we gotta throw some Astra Militarum training and expertese into the fray.

In life war. In death peace.
In life shame. In death atonement.

Lasgun has some nice synergy with the buffed surgical and a node that makes las weapons not consume ammo on crit in the press build.

Same. I usually just leave if I notice someone doing that.

It does have added stagger and extra buffs. I’ve seen gameplay with it It’s actually pretty busted. On the press build you can push bosses to their deaths (hopefully that doesn’t make it to the live version).

While I haven’t seen a lot in the way of comparison yet, one stream I was watching seemed pretty confident that you wouldn’t need to worry about the vet being weak. I didn’t spend too long in the stream, but he was making short work of everything with a Headhunter/Infernus Recon Lasgun. The fire obviously did a lot of work at times, but he was mowing things down pretty damn quick

He was running a knife for melee in the game I was watching, but it was very rarely used outside of running around.

Yeah, Recon might be busted. No ammo consumption on crit sounds brutal with it, and there is rending on the Vet tree making it’s low armor pen a non-issue.

What I’ve heard from someone who mostly played Vet on the press server is a diplomatic “It’s the most balanced” while (most) other stuff is busted. Autoguns and Recon will be much better tho.

lmao, vet is so bad now.

Grenades

  • Frag grenade: It’s frag grenade.
  • Krak grenade will be kind of nice, assuming we can still regen grenades.
  • Smoke grenade: A big ol’ lol. Only blocks sightlines for enemies inside the cloud (ie, not behind it), but blocks your own sightlines wherever you are.

Auras…

  • slightly more ammo back on elite kill
  • 3% damage
  • 5% move speed

Absolute filler. Named nodes must be engaging and/or powerful. These are neither.

Exe stance.

No auto reload. Guess the whole “aggressive infantry” thing was fluff talk. At least it can actually be made to be useful by adding the refresh mod, I guess. If we can’t add more than one mod to an ability, this one is going to suck.

Voice of command.

Not my thing, but the auto-pickup will be useful in pugs.

Infiltrate

Literally just an aggro dump. Because those are always popular with the rest of the team.

This sucks. Guess I’ll try psyker.

NGL, I’m kinda worried about the changes to Ogryns and Zealots. Putting up with suicidal zealots, and solo mode ogryns is pretty annoying, but was not too widespread. The new changes feel like it’ll make the issue worse if not outright aids to deal with especially with the surge of returning and new players.

Also, while I think that the Vet’s stuff looks kinda boring, I don’t think it’s bad. The vet is probably the most powerful class atm DPS-wise, so if the new trees reinforce this plus the introduction of new utility options- he’ll be fine. Also, lmao at the folks already complaining about the invisibility ability without having even played yet. Same folks probably like to complain about autopistol, and premature bolter dumping vets too.

It’s definitely boring in comparison to the changes the other classes got. It’s not like it’ll be unplayable. Truthfully I’m just mad that they took the auto-reload away and gave it to the ogryn. I wouldn’t care at all about any of it if I could just keep playing the way I do now, but I can’t.

As for the stealth, I’ve played enough V2 to know how those abilities play out in game.

More generally speaking, CDR is probably going to go up in value. Half these changes (on all classes) have brutal cooldowns on them.

Hate to break it to you, but both Zealot and Ogryn have some CDR on the tree. Zealot has a node that reduces CD by 1.5 second on crit. Ogryn reduces it by 5% on elite kill (from anyone in coherency).

So when Ogryn just deletes a screen on elites he will have his Ult back. Zealot’s Abilities are also basically spamable.

Haven’t seen one on the Vet tree but it might have one too.

I figured that all classes would get a broad spray of different types of numerical buffs in the tree (which makes the vet’s aura buffs feel even more like filler). In that vid you can see things like +toughness and +melee damage on the link nodes, so it’s not unimaginable that CDR will be in there too. I think it’s a safe assumption that vet probably has them as well, but who knows.

They are just really, really, really bad. Incredibly bad. Apart from Scavengers.

Preview zealot tree:

Bottom left before the keystone: Invocation of Death. There is also 20% CDR on backstab kill on the right side.

Even scavenger is just like, yeah, ok? .75% to 1% sounds like a 25% increase, but with the way math works in this game, who knows what it’ll actually be… Even if it is 25% more, that’s still not a game changer. Even in the most intense game modes, ammo shortage is almost never a problem for anyone who exercises even modest fire control.

I was going off the assumption that picking an aura replaces the base one which I strongly suspect is the case.

Oh god, I hope you’re wrong. Keeping ammo regen or taking one of those other two isn’t even a choice.
