Talent Trees Deep Dive

We’re getting the equivalent of 8 new classes, and the ability to mix and match between the new and what we had.

If you want to be upset, that’s your prerogative, but we are getting a ton of new class options.

This - the new skill trees are much more interesting for me then if they were seperated new classes!

They are there, basically 2 new class for each archetype.

They NEVER promised new archetypes.

As for the classes that they actually did promise, we are getting 8 new classes in less than 4 quarters so they have more than doubled the promised rate.

There you go, bud.

Redux Kinetic Barrage discussed on that timestamp. But now supercharged. It says 75% faster which is insane given it was only 25% before.
Combine it with Scrier’s Gaze, Reality Anchor, and Precognition and you can head-pop like never before.

Pair this with Run n’ Gun, and just sprint around shooting everything?

You got “upset” from that?

Sooooo, we agree now?

That’s also the infamous post where they claim that Classes in Darktide are a completely new and separate thing from Careers in Vermintide 2 which, sadly, seems was scrapped in order to meet the deadline but now they are making good on that. So surely you must be excited that they are keeping their word and have exceeded their initial goal, no?

Are you trying to suggest that the ‘deep’ talent trees they promised per class, is now suddenly a new class?

How much copium are you huffing?

What they’re doing with this patch is fixing their release promise of the classes actually having meaningful talent trees. They’re not adding classes.

They informed us very early on exactly what they defined as a “Class” and as an “Archetype”. If you choose to define them differently, then that is on you.

They also informed us very early on that each class would have deep and meaningful talent trees. They also informed us very early on that unlike V2, this game would totally not rely on RNG or, say, arbitrary crafting locks so that we would be able to freely experiment with builds and make meaningful choices.

If you choose to interpret their obvious blatant lies as truth, that is very much on you.

Holy Moly, that’s next level God Tier.

What do you define a new class to be? Like a completely separate character, something more akin to VT2’s careers, or something else entirely? Is it possible that the Psykinetic branch of the Psyker (for example) was intended to be one of the first 4 classes, but was not ready in time so the career-like implementation was what we got instead.

FS’ definition of classes is pretty much non-existent beyond vague statements like “greater customization” and “different to careers”… short of beta testers potentially seeing some hints, Fatshark’s concept of a class has not been presented to players prior to the announcement of the talent trees, so this is nothing more than guesswork (from all involved)

For what little it’s worth, I had asked Catfish in the previous dev post about a one-time reset of locks given the significant balance changes (since there’s been no indication of the crafting system changing), and got no response. It doesn’t confirm either way, but I wouldn’t expect to see any changes

A one time reset of the locks would be the biggest middle finger they could possibly give. It would mean openly admitting that their current system is unfit and exists only to create frustration, grind and to try to capture people with RNG player addiction systems - yet they are completely unwilling to change it. Only being ‘nice’ and giving us a one time break from their horrific dark design because of all the blessings being changed.

The keystone skills seem like such a large boost in effectiveness for one talent point, that I can’t help but suspect that Vet is being done dirty by not having them. I mean, at the very least, not having the keystones makes Vet’s tree less interesting.

I kind of want to know what the thought process was, where the devs thought “oh well, if we can’t do weapon-specific keystones for the Vet then I guess we can’t give it keystones at all.” I mean…is there a reason you can’t give Vet normal keystones instead?

The average power of Vet’s normal nodes is going to have to be greater than that of the other classes to make up for that loss of power, and I just don’t see Fatshark taking that into account.

There are a few videos out and a live stream going on with some creators.

Based on what I’ve seen and heard Vet is very weak compared to everything else, and also super nerfed compared to the previous version. It no longer has 200 Toughness at the base and no unwavering focus in any form (There are some other forms of TDR in all classes’ talent trees including vet).

Gunlugger is a broken OP, Zealot is too in the hands of a good player, and Psyker has both extremely powerful stuff and bad.

Also, there is no “Melee Vet” it’s hybrid at best.

There are also a lot of balance changes coming to blessings, chained weapons are getting buffed.

PS: The talent tree that I’ve seen isn’t the final version and is different from what we will get in the game. Apparently, the nodes at least been moved around.

Yes! while there might be some changes before it goes live, seems like most power blessings has been reduced, such as blaze away and slaughterer. There has also been changes made to some weapons, apperently chainsword is “good” now. I am still unsure how much power is actually in the weapons themselves or how much you gain from having the “correct” talents now.

Pinning fire have been nerfed (IDK in what way), I’ve seen headtaker buffed on HS to 8%/stack surgical gives 10% crit boost stacking every 0.3 seconds up to 10 stack… There are a lot of changes.

Take it with a grain of salt cos the live stream going on is from the latest beta version and the release version will be different.

Oh okay great, so this IS gonna suck. Fantastic.

I really, REALLY want to be wrong, and I hope to god someone will show me I am, but I can’t escape the feeling that in 24 hours, the game I’m looking at will be a frustrating mess (more than it was before), and that the parts of it that were so cherished and which we’ve put so much time and effort into, will have been trivialized and reduced for no reason and with nothing to show for it.
