And this is why an in-game, optional, somewhat more in-depth tutorial would be a good thing. While positioning , book jump sequences and intricacies of certain weapons can only be really learned through experience, there are many intermediate mechanics (pushing and push attack, timed blocks, dodge effectiveness and many others) that could well be taught through either an active tutorial (like the Prologue) or simply a passive text guide. I’d love to do that in mod form, but I’ve no programming skills whatsoever.
External resources (Youtube videos, wiki, etc.) require separate searching and can be quite buried, and even Steam guides are rarely any good (and require sifting through everything irrelevant too) at actually teaching things. They all also require getting outside the game. For that reason, I really wish for that kind of intermediate tutorial.
not it isn’t a 100 % thing, but it’s getting closer and closer to if the population of the game won’t increase again. Granted, I had some rough matches last night with clueless elves who ran off and triggered patrols, but other than that I get mostly good team mates now.
I’m thoroughly happy that this thread has somehow turned into comments about how well bots perform - DON’T sanction bot mod or improve bots please, in contrast to the thread title… I’ve seem a 3 man 1 bot team rescued by a Ranger Bardin bot triggering his ult to res someone. Gobsmacked. If I was under 25 I’d say something like “I am shook”.
I consider I’m a pretty good player. As usual I claim that if I lose it because of some absolute Bullsh!t™ but on the whole I can clutch when needed, listen for specials who’ve spawned behind us and don’t lambast Waywatchers too much when they go YOLO Leroy Jenkins. I CHOOSE to drop down to veteran and actively hope to coach newer people to git gud.
I try to find out if people are leveling bots or they’re new players, and find that stuff we all do as second nature is a revalation to some players. Diagonal Dodging Backwards is a good one that people don’t understand, as a sideways dodge diagonally away is further then a backwards one, and the whole Dodge-Dancing-Roger is new to a lot of people - also a good way to start talking about handling bosses in general.
As a challenge to the playerbase here, how many of us dropped to Recruit during the free weekend to hope to engage and coach some new people to buy the game?
