Specific FPS and Screen mode problem

Issue Type (Required):

Other

Issue Description (Required):

I have several specific problems that I’ve been having since the start of the current event. First one is my fps suddenly dropping when there’s a notification from steam (e.g. overlay messages, etc.) and on discord when someone is talking (this occurs sometimes, but the steam problem is persistent) this happens when my screen mode is Borderless Fullscreen (I tried to Fullscreen my game and it happens sometimes, because maybe my screen mode automatically switching to Borderless), this isn’t a problem for me before and it suddenly occurs. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and my GPU drivers (clean installation) and suddenly, a second problem occurs. When I set my screen mode to Fullscreen, the game sets it to windowed mode, and then when I change any video setting in my game, it suddenly disappears (it’s still running), and I can’t access it anymore. I’ve been experiencing the fps drops for 3 days now and the window problem yesterday.

The fixes that I’ve tried are the following:

  1. Verified the integrity of the game.
  2. Reinstalled the GPU drivers
  3. Reinstalled the game.

My system (Laptop):
Intel i5-13500HK
16 GB Ram
RTX 4050

You won’t get an answer till Monday, so i took a peek,

to me, it seems your driver startup fails due to incompatibilities with DX12, try DX11 and see if that already helps

I’ve already tried Dx11, the same problems occur + the text from setting becomes janky. They moved below their respective postions. Idk, should I do an actual CLEAN installation for my GPU driver?

first try to locate “shader_cache.pipe_lib” and delete it, it’s part of the settings user data Directory so where settings and saves are located, reinstalling or verifying your game won’t mess with them as they are located separately.

to do that press win+R insert %appdata%

should be as follows: C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Vermintide 2

Delete shader_cache.pipe_lib, start the game it should prompt it to create new shader file on start up, this usually takes up to a couple of minutes, just let it run its course.

So, I did this, but the problem still persist. But I found a work-around, sort of temporary fix, so I noticed that the display mode switches right after the game starts, not before (I have two display modes, Optimus and GPU only) so I tried switching to GPU display only before I launch the game, then suddenly, the screen mode and video setting problems disappeared, so I set the launcher on automatic display switching on NVIDIA control panel to compensate for the display mode not switching before the game opens. It works, but I don’t know why the game suddenly runs before the display mode change, it suddenly does that. And also, the temporary fix that I found for FPS drops when there are steam pop ups or overlays are the Triple Buffering feature in NVIDIA control panel. Still, I don’t open them by default, and they run perfectly fine before, but I’m glad I could still play right now.

That is indeed bizarre,

good to hear you found a workaround tho

Glad you’ve found a workaround. Otherwise I was going to point you to our performance solutions and to try disabling the Steam overlay as it can often cause performance issues:
