I know this has been brought up about champion and legendary, but I played a few games on veteran where special spawns were insane. I get that veteran is supposed to be a step up for us noobs, but having 2 stranglers/rattling gunner/assassin/ globadier/boss AND a horde spawn at once seems to be a bit much.
Completely agree. Since 1.06 horde and special spawns are much too frequent
Hahahaha I didn’t even know they were bugged on the lower difficulties.
Damn this is bigger than I thought.
Yeah, it’s crazy. Didn’t happen in recruit so this was quite a shock when I moved up to get the better gear. I’m playing IB so I can take a lot, but when all those disablers spawn at once even a decent pug struggles.
Beating the dead horse I know, but has there been any Dev response about this? If so, please point me in the right direction.
I too have noticed some “strange” spawn situations on Vet. Getting 3,4,5 specials within a 30 second period. At one point, i got leeched, then 3 sec later, leeched again by new leech, then elf got jumped by stab rat 2 sec after that, then globe threw and blightstormer started shouting in the distance to see a green circle about 5 sec after that XD We dealt w/ it, but seemed excessive
I wouldn’t worry yourself about dev responses. If what you claim is true (and I’ve seen it too, so it’s definitely reproducible), then they already know about it. They read all this and probably have changes in the pipeline. They’re actually doing a stream about 1.0.7 on Friday so maybe they’ll leak some juicy info. https://twitter.com/fatsharkgames/status/986959959752617985
I wish they’d just release a brief forum statement as well. My appetite for slower video dissemination of this kinda info is minimal when the game’s in a state like this.
Thanks for that!
I think the 2x pair spawns of specials is some sort of bug that happens on hosts with select circumstances. Latency on queries or something for special count on map.
Since the patch, almost every spawn group I’ve had has twins.
At this point I’m convinced the spawn director has gained sentience. Every “fix” tends to make things worse.
I didn’t know they were in Veteran too.
That said I also noticed that its been relatively tame in Champion tonight (Went to work on Battle Wizard for a bit)… well that’s not really true… its been VERY tame whenever I was in a Ranged group… almost no hordes and there were fewer numbers in the Hordes and fewer specials as a whole. Easy RNG games, like childs play type.
Went in with a couple of Melee Groups and there was a crapton of hordes, specials, and bosses.
I was like wow total disparity in the games. They’ve varied that wildly on Champion tonight.
I feel like one of the developers is working on a doctorate and they’re using their role in the game to orchestrate an elaborate social experiment to analyze the disparity between social groups experiencing different levels of inequality. That’s how crazy the game is right now.
Have to say I have been enjoying all the spawn insanity, makes for some good adventures when playing with friends. With that said I totally get why people are upset with it.
I’ve also started recording all my games and will put together a “AI Director is on Crack” Montage soon!
Popped in on Legend, nope that one is still overly insane with the Specials Spawns tonight.
Yeah honestly I’m just getting sick of the overdone Specials, the extra hordes didn’t bother me, it just meant I had to spend more time in melee. But the insane amount of specials on top of that was just overdone.
I might just skip playing this weekend because its that overdone.
I honestly thought from the beta (and still do) that double special spawns is new (and good + exciting) feature of V2. AI director queuing multiple special spawns (for extra clutches) was mentioned by the devs.
One should also consider game awareness: inexperienced players may disregard special callouts and sounds (ignoring and dealing with them in timely manner), as well as horde/special timers and checkpoints/scripted events. And lone players running far ahead of group are also spawning additional specials (or should be, same as in V1). All these combined with potential bugs may lead to overwhelming odds. But I think having 4 specials at a time shouldn’t be considered something special. Neither should be bosses spawning after checkpoints with a horde (that should have a chance of spawning additional couple of specials, queuing up).
It’s not happening at the prescribed rate for many players. For a lot of us, we pretty much always have full tilt spawnage in every category at all times. I think most would agree getting a clump of specials from time to time is fun. The problem is that a lot of us are slogging through specials like they’re trash mobs.
This!
Many times I have been playing and a special sound queue would play, one of the character voice lines announcing it would also play, and people would just keep doing what they were doing. Sometimes they would look around, not see the special in sight, and then move on. You can’t outrun specials, they keep tailing you and if you don’t deal with them then they’ll stack up even more and probably jump you at a really bad time such as during a horde or boss.
Also spot on, one thing I’ve noticed in a lot of PUGs is people spread out A LOT. I think maps might be more expansive overall in V2, but either way: one person getting far away from the group = high chance of more specials. Stick together.
I do want them to fix the bugs, but still leave in things like this that punish risky/unaware playstyles.
