Some mods/macros should be bannable

QOL mods are fine, let me say that from the outset.

What’s not fine, according to the Darktide mod policy, are mods that “directly affect” other players. Sensible - but what about mods (and macros) that indirectly affect other players?

I’m talking specifically about:

  • Macros or mods that allow full-auto fire rates on single shot weapons.
  • Weapon customisation mods that allow scopes and flashlights to be attached to weapons that don’t normally have them.

Both of these have pretty significant indirect effects on other players. Full auto mods or macros allow better DPS compared to unmodded players (not to mention being very annoying on some weapons e.g. void staff), and customisation gives modded players an advantage that unmodded players don’t have, whether that be better scopes on a Helbore or a flashlight on a bolter so that lights out missions are easier.

Fire rates, scopes and attachments (or lack of them) on weapons are a key part of game balance, and modded players shouldn’t be allowed to upset that balance by changing them. It may not be a direct effect on other players, but the advantages modded players get inevitably affect how the game plays for others.

The mod policy should be updated to ban such mods/macros, imo, and anyone using one after the policy update should result in a ban.

If it’s coded properly auto fire would only save your mouse clicks and finger joints. Onus is on FS to make it so.

Well it’s failure on FS part failing to deliver what they promised with weapon modability.

There shouldn’t be mods for weapon customisation like that because it should just be in the game by default anyway.

Why don’t you just use the mods?

In the business we call this an “L take”

With that logic, any skin that has “better” ironsights shouldn’t exist and people that currently use them would need to be banned too.

Macros are QoL unless they allow for something that is not humanly possible.

The attachments are also fine.
What do you care that the other guy has a better sightpicture on his helbore? Either get the mod yourself or deal with the fact that he chose to not have to deal with the default sights.

The attachments mod is specifically client only because it allows you to equip all skins that currently exist in the game and if you wanna show off the premium skins, you have to pay for it.

The mods wouldn’t exist if they weren’t fair game.

The server is handling most of the gameplay aspects.
You can’t make a weapon shoot faster than the server allows it to.
You can only eliminate the need to hammer the mouse button.

I’m with the other replies here. Absolutely nothing wrong with being able to slap a better scope on your gun. Just download the mod yourself if you’re so rustled about it.

If anything, I’d be thankful to have someone on my team who’s going through the effort of making the game feel more comfortable for them to play subjectively without resorting to outright hacking. I’d feel way better having them on my team than someone who is merely ““coping”” with the vanilla system.

I think there are situations when with autofire mod weapon can deal more damage than it’s supposed to by design. Would be better if there was just “hold for auto fire” in game feature.

I meant in general across all kinds of games, not just DT specifically.

It’s also quite ridiculous to ask for someone to be banned for using a scope attachment mod.
Besides the fact that using the attachment mod is not cheating by any means, “let the punishment fit the crime” and all that.

Hence the onus on FS to code better.

caugh Healthbar mod caugh

Health bar mod is 10 times worse than all of that OP.

That’s what annoys you?
I’m more annoying by people using healthbars to sneak all the kills I’m about to take.
Well. Not with Assail.

Just play Veteran. It is a developer-intended game mechanic to steal all the kills you can.

Nobody can blame you for that right?

What’s so bad about the healthbar mod?

Nobody uses that mod specifically for “killstealing”. If that’s even a thing in DT.

It’s not that I don’t understand that someone can kill that one shooter and now they have broken your elongated ult uptime but how does the healthbar mod make them do that more?

You are either aware enough of the kind of targets you should let other careers kill or you’re not. No mod changes that level of game sense / awarenes.

I didn’t say it’s bad.

It gives you a lot of information that changes your decision-making.

That’s the bit I like about it.

It let’s me know if a problem target is low enough for certain attacks to kill them which is very nice to have in a game more chaotic than VT2 and with way more varying breakpoints and damage numbers.

Then again it can steal a lot of info from you when there are so many bars on screen that they start to hide the enemies themselves.

Holding instead of click spamming, or binding attack to the mouse wheel.
It is a QOL mod.

That is also quite obviously QOL.

Can you tell if the person is clicking or holding a button?
Please explain to me how.

If you ever notice a person using a modded scope on their gun, feel free to explain to me, how you noticed.

Same thing for a flashlight. If you know the map reasonably well, you do not need one. Afaik, the modded flashlight (including its light) is not visible to anyone else than the user. You can not possibly tell if the player has a modded flashlight equipped, or simply knows the map well.
How do you notice if a player is using the customization mod to use a flashlight on a gun that does not otherwise have one?

If you would actually try and watch players to find out if they are using one of these mods, you would never be able to tell.
I guarantee that you would get more false positives than true positives.

For people with RSI problems mods like this are life savers. Games should include them.

Yes, and I think this goes into the “giving you an advantage” category. Seeing the enemy’s position through the visual orgy that’s going on the screen is also something I’d put in the advantage category.
