Solo Builds: What’s Your Go-To Carry Setup?

Hey everyone,

What builds do you find most successful for carrying or clutching games in Auric and above?
(Not looking for a balance discussion here, just what you are more comfortable with.)

My Take

For me, Stealth Zealot with Combat Knife feels like a near-guaranteed carry 99% of the time. If I fail, I know I messed up badly. Or maybe it was just server shenanigans .

Best Loadout:

  • Combat Knife + Whatever carry-worthy ranged weapon suits your style:
    • Flamer: Reliable in all situations, as long as you can aim your knives for specials/shooters
    • Bolter: Solid and impactful
    • Revolver: Underrated powerhouse (used to be the go to “nerf this” weapon)
    • Agripinaa Braced Autogun: Less flashy but effective and reliable.

Ogryn feels unstoppable across most builds, although he suffers from disabler vulnerability. And of course, gunlugger is now a dead meme build (RIP Twin Stubber Gunlugger).

Veteran can clutch, though it’s not as “safe” as Zealot in my experience.

  • Shout builds are strong but semi-team-dependent if I have to clutch with one, I need to play WAY more tactically. Fun challenge though!
  • Infiltrator builds can be hit or miss. Veteran’s melee just doesn’t compare to Zealot’s “space marine” power level.

Best Veteran Weapons:

  • Bolter – Super strong
  • Plasma Gun – Great damage but hitreg can feel clunky with hitreg shenanigans.
  • Las weaponsEspecially las pistols, a true jack-of-all-trades, underrated asf.
  • Autoguns & Agripinaa Revolver – Solid choices.

Psyker… Feels Rough

I’ll be real, I struggle the most clutching with Psyker. I’ve seen absolute madmen/gals pull off insane solo plays, but it’s rare. In 1800+ hours, I’ve only seen it happen once or twice.

They just feel like “all glass, no cannon when it really matters.”
Yeah, I know, I’ve seen the 1M+ damage Psykers in Auric/Havoc lobbies. But in those cases, they had ideal team setups covering them, once they’re on their own, they usually flop.

Weirdly enough, I started playing VT2 recently and have the opposite experience there I feel more confident clutching as Sienna (Necro) than Shade for instance.

What’s your go to clutch build?

What builds are you absolutely confident in when carrying bad teams or soloing tough content?

I think most classes can clutch pretty well with the exception of psyker.

Stealth builds obviously have the most clutch potential though. You are almost guaranteed to get the rescue/revive since nothing really counters stealth at the moment.

Yeah, because Necro’s skeletons are broken af because they draw agro, like having a fifth teammate. I am fairly confident in saying that the DLC class will be a clutch machine if the dog is anything like the skellys.
Box Ogryn is kinda crazy for stagger and picking up your temmates.

My favourite Psyker build, I'm comfortable doing clutches or solos with it

It can be rough. Here’s a good build for solo clutching. It’s got everything you could want as Psyker.

Warp Cataclysm

Knife for high mobility and Crit proccs to grant Talent boons, Trauma for melee dominance through large AOE stagger and boost to Boss damage, Assail for strong cleave against hordes and great synergy with Finesse Talents. It’s an absolute blast of a build, literally.

Personally, I find the knife hard to put away when in Scrier’s Gaze and maxed out on Disrupt Destiny stacks; but when armored patrols do ambush, Trauma comes out for some nasty stagger followed by knife stabs to the exposed weakspots.

The biggest key I’ve found to staying alive in a clutch as Psyker with this build is repositioning to a good choke point with knife and letting Trauma rip with Warp Unbound.

Psyker can clutch out for sure, i did it recently, it was auric malestorm, i used bubble staff + gaze+ destiny, it was scab only, mostly melee(and flamers, something that devs forget to mention). I also used deimos force sword, at some point i got really pushed into a corner(small room) mostly by maulers, but i was able to kill them all. I am sure it is possible without gaze too.

this one here is my current “if i want it done right, i do it myself” build, i’m using for the past 100 videos or so.

confident strike normally is overkill in auric maelstrom, yet when you get a real bad hand dealt in terms of teammates, toughness is the least of your concerns
