I haven’t logged in a while, 'cause reasons, and I see they don’t even post in ‘Announcements’ anymore, last update I saw was of the twins appearing simultaneously.
Any news?

FS doesn’t do staggered breaks for employees, and instead only has time off that is government enforced.
The result is 2 months of deadtime starting mid December.
Died in Setember due to medical complications.
Was very tragic, thousands just stopped logging into darktide because of dysentery
oh yeah I forgot last year was the same story lmao, and everyone was expecting them to return from their vacations with guns blazing, but all the year was spent on was getting the console port ready.
Maybe this year is when the actual content cycle begins?
They’ll come back to the studio ready to keep buffing the highest performing weapons. Maybe the power sword will perform a parry for you during the activation and Zealot can just yell Emperor at things to kill them.
And to curb certain behaviour by nerfing everything related to that behaviour instead of one thing at a time and tweaking it.
If they were, for example, to curtail zealot rushing, they would nerf the base move speed values for zealot, the heavy attacks and mobility values for knife AND the all the talent nodes for move speed, because historically doing one thing and seeing how it goes is rarely a thing they do, and they’d rather nuke it into the ground and then ignore it for months.
A lot of the rollercoaster balancing they do could be smoothed out with more frequent, smaller patches, but they seem to be institutionally, structurally and managerially incapable of doing so.
Most of these balance changes aren’t necessary anyway.
I praise the dev who sees the pitfall of the endless balance cycle and doesn’t fall into it.
So there’s one thing that slightly underperforms? And another thing that slightly overperforms? Okay. Where is the problem?
I remember the 90’s and 2000’s, when games often ended up having a few viable metas and a few well-known “joke builds” because game mechanics made certain stuff fall into useful-useless territory.
Of course having a fully balanced game in theory is nice, but it’s never going to exist because people’s perceptions about things is very different (see @MarxistDictator implying Power Sword being OP, when the karkin thing has gotten nothing but nerfs in months).
Of course, when you have an audience that acts like tiny flaws are the end of the world and make threads on Reddit endlessly on any matter just to entertain their Nurgle-defiled Hubris, devs will think they have a huge issue (usually they don’t) and overcorrect way too much.
It’s not just balance but they also subscribe to the “release new system close to holidays so any issues with it doesn’t get looked at for months” school of patching and versioning.
Classic FS. Classic game devs who don’t, can’t, or won’t play their own game really.
Double bolter mag dump was op so instead of creating a blacklist of weapons for the insta reload instead the entire mechanic was removed off of vet.
I recall in VT2 Beam staff was op which got nerfed alongside the pyromancer career which is hilarious considering how underwhelming it was. Might still be. I haven’t checked out the most recent balance patch.
Yeah, they nerfed the staff, the ability CDR on crit trait and the pyromancer at once. Or like they couldn’t get Unchained push vent to only activate when you actually push something, so it got removed completely because people were using it to vent heat for stamina instead of health.
Please. Muad’Dib is the killing word, we all know this.
Some people still want the gameplay to resemble last year’s minus the OP of veteran that literally when the game dropped to 2k players stopped being used.
Others enjoyed things like pre nerf assail and current kickback and look at other weapons and go ‘why can they also not vaporize lines of enemies in 1 shot’. pretty soon they will have to just make mobs out of crushers and ragers.
Nah, it isn’t dead per say.
It’s more like most of the Fatshark team are on vacation… cause they probably are.
…not that you could tell since their working pace is kinda… slow to begin with.
The endless balance cycle is a good thing in a game like this. The main reason it sucks in DT’s case is because of the atrocity that is the crafting system. Don’t forget that adding new weapons and such are part of that cycle.
Endless balance is a great way to make things feel fresh for longer if it’s handled well, but it requires a game where people can switch to another option when their current favourite’s day in the sun ends without too much of a fuss.
The days of particular features being broken or useless forever are WELL behind us now.
Fatshark policy dictates that all of the devs take their Christmas breaks at the same time (late December to late January)
Announcements will resume as normal probably some time either next week or the week after.
Edit: I fixed a mistake.
Don’t forget the fact that they’re slow as hell to actually patch stuff too.
Not to defend Fatshark here by any means, but have y’all heard of how slow Bethesda is?
I’ve been waiting since 2011 for a new TES game and the latest news suggests that TES 6 isn’t coming until 2028.
Eh, not worth waiting on something that’s going to be utter crap.
Maybe if the news hits that they fired Pagliarulo, and brought in someone who can actually write something then maybe some hype will be warranted.
Anyways, Dragons Dogma 2 is this year, and soon. That’s hype.
