It’s SO WEIRD to fight a bunch of enemies without music. I’d rather have too much music than none. This is insane. Why make great music then turn it off?
a lot of players can’t be bothered to check behind them, so they need to be able to hear every special enemy long before they close to know when to deal with them. the music made that too hard so they gave babies their bottle and now there’s no ambush music.

Hold my clown for a moment m8
Here’s what Fatshark on Reddit said about it, unless there’s been some newer update.
It is not a bug. The decision was made to change the music to trigger on hordes rather than on every ambush - as there was almost always an ambush running. The thought was the music has less impact on the gameplay when its playing all the time.
Some people just like the music. I’m one of them. I like Jesper Kyd and love 40k. I feel it’s absence keenly because it was enveloping and immersive. The game feels lesser without it to me.
I’d ike to add that: the removal of the ambush/horde music makes enemy encounters in Darktide feel less dramatic, since Kyd’s music blasting in your headphones adds to the stress of playing the game.
Fatshark really done goofed on this one!
Removing it has made things way harder. There’s sound queues for everything EXCEPT the gigantic balls of trash and crushers.
Whoever greenlit this change needs to rethink their decision making process. There needs to be some sign that it’s happening.
there is a sign, there’s triggered voicelines.
not that most people will notice the voiceline since they’re usually cancelled by someone using their stealth ult at the first sign of trouble.
God I wish they wouldn’t use voice lines as the only indicator. They’re so unreliable.
Nothing is forever with Fatshark, only a long, long, long time.
want to say there’s a bug with the new option they added in audio “disable sound while in background” or something like that.
I noticed it’s muting audio in the MS on restoring the window but haven’t confirmed it’s causing issues in mission.
How you doing, Hedge?
I do not understand. Forgive my stupidity, but I always thought “Ambush” was a synonym for “Horde” on Darktide. Where did they remove the music? And above all, why does Fatshark waste time solving imaginary problems, when they have much more real and serious problems to face?
I truthfully think this is one of the most negatively impactful changes they’ve made to in-mission gameplay in quite some time.
I used that music (or rather, the end of it) as a sign that the fight is over and we can continue moving. Now, the whole team just kind of stands around with our thumbs up our butts while we watch every door to make sure there’s not another wave coming before we start moving on. It’s really ruined the flow.
i like it this way
On the other hand i can see their point, cause it feels dramatic if it comes after some period of silence. But still i think having ambush music is better than not.
Meanwhile chaos warrios in V2 stomping with metal rattling, and overall all armored enemies have metal rattling with them, you always can here if there are stormvermins somwhere behind.

Hey, just reopening to give an update on this. ( I know necroing is bad but)
It was an intended change to make more it more dramatic while fighting a horde and to make it feel more impactful. We have seen feedback from the community that a lot of you miss the music and feel it added to the immersion - so it will be back in the next patch!
