I honestly cannot speak on if the player quality is better just from the switch over to Havoc. You might be totally right about this, I’ll have to take your word on that. I’m just going off of just the old Maelstorms & regular Damnations. The player base which is horribly not mechanically good at the game at all the vast majority of the time (even made a big post about this too). I just didn’t want to gamble with Havoc, so I played with very close friends that I can fully trust. Just to be “super safe,” if you know what I mean… Plus, we had some strong communication as the games were going. From 16-40, we probably only lost about 4-5 games if that. We’re kind of freaks at the game & took our time with it for a higher succession rate.
At least quitters are far rarer in havoc. Although they’re more likely to be CTDers than quitter in havoc so it’s swings and roundabouts
It’s more likely that that’s just the perceived difference between “randomly getting anyone as teammates” vs. “being able to chose someone from a selection of players”
That has to be a huge difference maker and I took full advantage of that.
Then again, you can’t accept someone if they weren’t available to begin with.
It’s probably a combination of both for why teammates where better in havoc. It attracts better players and you can chose who joins you. The amount of people that wanted to join me from level 25 onwards that you could tell at a first glace were not going to be good enough was kinda crazy.
Going premade is always going to be safer but that needs you to know people that are good enough. I have plenty of buddies that I can see get to level 25, 30 and not easily 40.
I certainly lost more than 5 runs on my way to level 40, that’s for sure.
Yeah, for sure. It really all depends on the person there’s no doubt about that. I’m going to sound mean… I do have friends in the game that are decent, but admittedly they’re not on that 35-40 level at all they just play more occasionally. But two guys I know IRL that are like god-tier players. I asked them to join me on the journey they accepted. The fourth guy was great too for sure maybe not as good, but solid enough for him to join us. All together, we were almost unstoppable in a sense. 1 of each class, I was Oggy of course it was the perfect storm so to speak. Yeah, we were just super cautious when playing taking our time not rushing is how we came out on top with little to no deaths involved for sure. Basically it was just 1 room at a time, slow & steady wins the race kind of thing for us. A lot of heavy communication & checking in on each other. We wanted one guy to lead & what I mean is direct us down any path he sees fit. Like, go into this room now or Chorus now or whatever it may be, etc. It ended up pretty effective for sure, so we stuck with it. I was the moral support Ogryn massaging everybody’s shoulders & saying nice job lol. That was my part in it all & I stand by that decision. Come get these hands.
I know, I was there… You have very strong hands indeed, sah. My back is fully unkinked.
small world, eh?
Jup, that was you
The real havoc is the friends we made along the way
We ended doing something very similar to this recently. The pre-made I’m grouped with wanted to do an “anti-meta” game on 40 as well. No Chorus, Bubble, Smite, VoC & all that jazz. We luckily got it on our first attempt with only 3 downs. It was definitely more chaotic & nerve-racking, we loved the thrill, a very exhilarating experience for sure. Much harder & we actually liked it too. We’re all pretty experienced players, so it was still a cool little challenge to do after you beat it with metas. I’d highly recommend doing it with your buddies if you have pre-mades. Now, getting True Survivor like this would be an actual nightmare lol
I just came back to playing yesterday, cleared a 31, attempted a few 40s got like 90% of the way to the end on most of them, sadly it was Logistratum everytime, and we had some unfortunate D/Cs.
As long as people are in voice it really doesn’t seem that bad, HOWEVER, I really dislike the somewhat forced meta.
update True Survivor and Havoc 40 done.

Hey, we got a group of 2 Psykers and 2 Zealots, we played as full premade group from 16-40. Surgestaff Psyker with Shield, Inferno Staff Psyker, a Invisible Zealot with Knife and Chorus Zealot with Relic Blade(that was me). It worked really well. On most objectives, the 2 Psykers and Chorus Zealot hold on a specific spot and the Invisible Zealot did the objectives. It was a very fun experience and we got only 1 time demoted because of failing. For me, it was the best experience since release. It was difficult, but with my great teammates a very fun one.
I don’t generally record my gameplay, sorry.
First attempt, mostly meta veteran build on my end (dueling sword, plasma), random group of good players consisting of another vet (recon) a staff psyker and a boltgun zealot. No comms. Map was smelter complex.
Ended up clutching the run early on at the elevator. No downs on my end, but I did get grabbed like a billion times by mutants somehow. Psyker slightly outdamaged me by the very end of the run, but I had the most damage on basically every elite/special category by a lot.
The difficulty is massively overblown. My previous Havoc run was a 30. There is almost no perceivable difference between a Havoc 30 and 40.
I use shadowplay instant replay for my gameplay footage, and upgrading to the Nvidia App instead of using GeForce exerience seems to have removed the ability to change the 20 minute replay timer to whatever using a registry edit, so I don’t have the whole run recorded. I have the beginning up to the clutch moment and the end of the run though
in the nvidia app you can adjust the instant replay time length (and quality) and you can just hit record to start a recording
ALT + Z opens the menu, hit the gear at the top and you can access all the settings
