Small tips for new players about med packs and ammo crates

Since you’re here on the forums you probably already know all of this, but here goes…

TL:DR
Keep track of your pickups.
Pickups can be given to you by team members.
Place ammo/meds AFTER elevators/air locks/drops (unless urgent/mid fight).
Unless you are picking up another pickup before a drop (and no other team member can take it), then place it on the edge.
Place meds where your team can choose to use them.
The Veteran’s “Field Improvisation”-skill can end up healing corruption from Grimoires that will come back, thus wasting your meds.

When you’re playing, one of the many things you want to keep track of is if you’re carrying a Med pack or an ammo crate.
These can be picked up or given to you by a team member.
Team members may give it (meds, ammo, scriptures, not grimoire) to you because they are looking for books, other pickups or because they are simply done with the penance to place 500 of them and think you might still have that left to do.

When to place a med pack or a ammo crate?
Look at the screen, what color(s) are your team members ammo indicator(s)? What health are they at? Do they have corruption that nullifies the effect of the med pack? Do you think they can make it to the next medicae station? Do you have a Syringe that could heal corruption?

Where to place?
On the map, it is generally better to place either pickup AFTER a choke or drop. This is because doors may close (elevators and “airlocks”), but also because there are often resupply points with crates for ammo or medicae stations for health right after.

If your team has dropped down a legde and you’re carrying a ammo crate or medkit and have found another pickup, you can sometime benefit from placing either the med pack or ammo crate on the very edge. This way you can possibly reach it later.

For literal placement, I would personally recommend placing it a little bit away from any area your team might decide to make a stand on. This is because if you have a Veteran with field improvisation the corruption from a Grimoire will be healed - and then return - depleting your meds. Player that may only be a little hurt might not need healing and therefore “waste” the healing another player who is more hurt or less tanky may need.

*About the Syringe:
It is sometimes better to wait or gamble for a player to go down and heal the corruption rather than healing just the HP.

This may all be different for your group, but generally this has worked for me.
I have also asked FS for improvements, but they have yet to be implemented (if ever).
Thanks for reading and may the Emperor protect.

thats the thing, all safe and sound advices so :+1: for the effort, yet those truly in need to be exposed to said “obvious behavior patterns” sadly don’t frequent the forums

neither do they take the time to actually observe while being down how it’s done proper, much less being able to adapt anything that’s shown.

nah, sound advice is sound advice.

only going with randos its basically groundhog day every match and there’s no group but a ragtag allotment of dudes that are better kept from essentials like the med crate, ammo box or green stim.

the number of field medic situations and patching up the “brave tadpoles” after a little boyscout skirmish, solving the engagement and healing em up before they yeet themselves into the next face first is

I am mostly playing below Auric so I don’t know if people use some special locations or tactics like falling back a lot etc. Then the placements might be different.

well, personally speaking, the thing with auric maelstrom once gotten used to is it allows for pretty independent gameplay to the point of clutching/carrying as the “standard”, with only the odd dog or net creating the need for a helping hand.

and in a gameplay sense I consider it a good thing since i prefer fast paced action over long dragged out cover-peeps.

basically quake 40k, and darktide delivers like no other.

now that is not to say you don’t help your mate out etc, pick em up, drop some ammo…

the thing is, you either got 3 competent dudes matching or setting the pace and it flows like the john wick club scene..

or it’s dudes in over their heads that need a carry and should not set the pace, ever.

a) does it create a tedium and false pressure of attricion cause the spawns keep piling up while simultaneously none of the others put in the work.

b) they aint confident in either picking an optimal route, mostly for a basic lack of map knowledge, or when and where to pick/funnel/choke point an engagement.

the same group of enemies is a breeze in a narrow corridor and the death of randos in an open spot.

so one might say to pick a faster pace to save em from themselves if that makes sense

best thing I had in a while was carnival clutch, everyone down but me, plague ogryn, crushers, netter you name it….and no ammo cause the dude with the crate died in a self pulled moshpit.

me picking them enemies down while kiting in a wide u-turn to pick the crate and reimburse myself, dudes in the chat “what the hell is he doing?”

like the 2 remaining synapses of his unable to comprehend “divide et impera”

that being a common thing on auric maelstrom, I personally prefer the “solo-attempt” :face_with_tongue:

The amount of people playing Havoc/Auric who still don’t know how or when to place med/ammo kits is astounding.

A zealot with Martyrdom will be quick to pick up a medkit, have the whole team around him dying and end up dying with it himself, having never dropped it.

Then you have the guys who drop the medkit right before an elevator takes us to the next medicae station.

THEN you have the guys who drop an ammo pack when the team is on 90% ammo and everyone just picks it up before emptying their reserves.

People suck.

AFTER you warned them not too. Then they get mad they have no ammo for the last 3 rounds of Mortis trials…

Lets be straight up on the resource sharing issue.

People in Quickplay know what they’re doing. They’re choosing to be that way.

1st player drops ammo kit. 2nd player sees 1st player topping up way too early, mag dumping away. 2nd player sees and suspects 1st player is going to double tap, so takes his allocation early as well. Then everyone does it.

There is always someone who taps too early, double taps then that cynical expectation takes into next mission with randoms to eventually the norm into every mission.

The exact same thing happens for medstations. Top up early or someone is going to double tap. Always one that will.

It isn’t because they don’t understand - They’re choosing to do so.

Since people don’t know how to share. Might as well make the game give fixed ammo/med allocation per player. Taking away concept of sharing but hey at least it would be fair and people don’t crutch on ammo/medstation to survive and know their limits. No more “Give me ammo” x100, you’re responsible for your own allocation and use.

Don’t pick up grimoires.

Don’t place where martyrdom zealot will pass.
