I jist don’t understand the need to write the thing about itemization in the most confusing, non committal way possible.
I still read it as it’s intended to come out on the 25th with the rest of the update but who knows at this point.

IMO the complaining is not targeted at the new content, but the way this game is managed.
New Content is always good. But to be honest the crafting was broken on release years ago and was one of the most wanted things to fix. Communication with the fans was also broken on release and was one of the most wanted things to fix.
Most players who are not passionate about this game probably left it a year ago. I’m sure those who remain are, on some level, excited but their built-up frustration outweighs it.
Just consider how many ppl are complaining, but keep playing, while content is slow to show up and we know almost nothing about what’s in the oven.
(I’m sure there are exceptions )
Circular wording is a source of confusion and should be quit.
I don’t think anyone will be confused if you say frankly, “Itemisation is currently being prepared, but if it is ready in time, it will be implemented with the update”
If the itemisation is not ready in time, no one will get angry because most players do not want it to be implemented in an unfinished state.
I think they should delay Secrets of the Machine God UNTIL the crafting/itemization is implemented.
Just communicate with us, we will understand. It makes no sense to release this update literally titled about the Machine God and turning on the old forge .
these two things, the crafting/itemization update and Secrets of the Machine God kind of go hand in hand.
I don’t want to go on the slot machine for my bolt pistols/s nor burst laspistol nor stub pistol without the update. I have been waiting 17 months for the crafting overhaul, waiting a few more weeks wouldnt be a big deal.
Plenty of things about Darktide make no sense. These are the same idiots who said they wanted to reduce randomization while releasing an entirely random itemization system.
They’ll fail to release the itemization, go on vacation, and wonder why their player numbers crater throughout July and August.
I mean, they did originally say that penances would come first and itemization later this year. I always read it as itemization being a fall / autumn thing.
But that is why I was even more surprised they namedropped that in the recent post, just to then say “oh it might not make it in after all”.
If it’s not relevant, why bring it up?
If it’s not relevant, why bring it up?
To let people know they’re working on it and that it is so close to ready that it might even come 6/25 (which is what everyone, including FS it seems, would like).
If it’s not relevant, why bring it up?
Because their defenses cope force needs hopium.
Memerey aside I reckon they assumed it would buy them some patience and good will.

Then they probably should’ve kept this part quiet, and only say they were working on a dev blog related to crafting. Than when the blog comes out and they know whether or not it will release before the break, they can say when it will release.
Or you know, not word the initial announcement for it in the most obtuse way possible.
Then they probably should’ve kept this part quiet, and only say they were working on a dev blog related to crafting.
Keeping quiet until things are practically done is their normal mode, and everyone agrees they need to be more transparent and communicate more. This is communicating more. It ain’t perfect, but I prefer it to not knowing how far along the itemization rework seems to be.
I think Fatshark is in a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. Doesn’t matter how much you communicate or how little, until the entire sentiment changes and content comes out consistently; players will be vocally negative.
Agreed. I think this is basically the perfect example. We get a (quite positive) update on the biggest ticket, most requested, largest pain point item and it’s construed as a “lie” by some, and a complete fumble by others, because of some (imo barely) confusing copy.
Personally I disagree. I think this is something that people can get excited and positive for (and depending on the dev blog, could still happen).
I just felt the Skulls reveal, and how they discussed the itemization update were done in a very poor way.
Personally I’m still optimistic that we’re getting it on the 25th, but that might be because of how I read the initial statement.
Yeah, I think the wording here is a bit of a mountain out of a molehill issue. It wasn’t a problem until it was made a problem and then people jumped on that. I’m sure I’ll be roasted for saying that, but this is not the first time I’ve seen this happen in comms. In no way did I read the comms as “itemization coming out the 25th”.
It’s kind of like a game of telephone. After it gets filtered through a couple people, the meaning gets skewed. I’ve seen it happen on V2 release dates as well. “Like spring 2023” and it releases May 30th for example, but people think Spring = March.
Right, but it’s the follow up that matters. FS has definitely struggled by saying one thing and changing gears later. I think that pattern has burned a lot of patience and goodwill.
You should call it what it is. Not ‘changing gears’ but false advertising and telling flat out lies.
Well, hmm; I can see how it’s taken that way, and studios should follow it up, but software changes a lot, or something explodes and get backburnered. I don’t think any CM communicates that info with poor intent sitting there going “hehe let’s make false promises!” When a CM has to deal with the fall out, their reaction is quite literally, “Ahh, f*ck me, it’s gonna be a day…” NO CM likes to comm info that doesn’t follow through.
I’m not saying dropping a feature is the right thing, but that’s hardly a CM’s fault. They’re just the ones taking the bullets for it.
In no way did I read the comms as “itemization coming out the 25th”.
I don’t want to get into arguing over the meaning of each sentence like in other threads, but I read it as the exact opposite. That the update was confirmed for the 25th, and they were finalizing it for an upcoming dev blog.
It’s not the end of the world but I certainly hope an actual CM can eventually reiterate on what it meant (not that I don’t believe you or Hank).
I think if the obtuse part of it was, let’s say whether or not we were getting a shock maul on the 25th it wouldn’t have nearly caused as much friction. It’s a hot button issue that needs as little confusion as possible.
I don’t think any CM communicates that info with poor intent sitting there going “hehe let’s make false promises!”
Just to be clear, I’m not insinuating that. CMs at the end of the day are a glorified messaging system with little to no independent agency. I’m not blaming them for a company’s f-ups and borderline incompetent manner of communication.
What I take offense on is describing things in the above mentioned wording. Especially since you’re no longer officially employed. I consider not calling the things as they are and using misleading wording disingenuous. It’s purely a matter of personal principle and taste. I believe you called it ‘harsh’ and ‘confrontational’, but truth often is.
To me, the issue with some of your posts is they can be quite targeted, so of course I take umbrage to that; but in this post I’m replying to, I’m happy to have that kind of debate; if that makes sense! Again, criticism doesn’t have to be a personal attack.
Edit: Jesus, my grammar.
