Skulls 2024 Summary: Announcing Secrets of the Machine God (June 25, 2024)

Worst case for me would be them just adding red items from a seperate source and calling it a day. Datamined content suggests this. Sort of like VT1 contracts. It’d still be kind of cool on its own but I would feel sort of bad since it won’t fix the crafting, and especially if it’s timegated. I think this is the worst possible actually reasonable outcome they would go for. Obviously stuff like “just remove 1 lock” would be worse but I don’t expect them to be that stupid realistically.

Best case scenario, to me, would be a total rework of how items work to be more in line with the promised system pre-release (much like the class rework did that same thing, respectively). This would involve:

  • Get rid of weapon marks and instead let us customize weapons minute details on our own, as they were talking about pre-release (so put your own scope of choice on the helbore, then put your own bayonet of choice on so you can pick between stabbing and slashing, then tune the energy output yourself so you can pick how damaging but slow/less damaging but fast it will be). Again, I’m not just inventing ideas here, these things were hinted at and partially straight up stated pre-release to be how the crafting would work.

  • Get rid of the RNG completely. Make all the weapon stat stuff and perks and blessings completely grindable and never allow a “locked” outcome.

  • Introduce red weapons and have them have a point that isn’t just “now you can get even stronger with 100% bars to make damnation even easier”, possibly this goal could intersect with the previous 2 points

Remains to be seen though. The devblog better actually show actual hands and feet instead of just loose concepts and goals.
