literally just the suggestion. i personally think that they should add custom maps, this would allow them to focus more on other things such as story, weapons, cosmetics, even systems that the game still doesn’t have but should (lookin at you, color customization system) and it’d even allow them to focus on new game modes. you see, doom 2016 had a custom map system that was fairly fun and actually wasn’t too bad at what it was meant for because while it may have been static and unchanging in its maps, it was still fairly good for its functions, it was also smart in how it worked.
i’ll go over how i think darktides custom maps should work if they are ever added.
to start with, you have to agree to not having anything that could be considered offensive in your map, offensive being things including sexual, racist, homophobic, ableist, crime promotion, and general hate towards anybody at all no matter the group. once you agree to this, you can actually make a map.
the map maker would give you access to every region, mission type, enemy, everything for a mission. you would also be able to set scripted events and have your own stories in these missions so long as you provide the audio.
first would come the region, then the mission type, and then the map layout. after you do those, then you can make enemies and choose from a list of pre-recorded voice lines that’ll be played over the vox, it’d be a short list though, mostly consisting of voice lines that give basic objective instructions, such as “purge these heretics before they get even more out of hand.”, “infiltrate the heretic stronghold and retrieve intel about the enemy without getting caught.”, and “escort this servitor to the enemy encampment and protect it while it detonates their supplies.” and so on.
once you’ve gotten all the voice lines, enemies, map design, and all that out of the way, you can publish it and have people play it as a special mission that is always available in a 3rd section of the mission map separately from standard and auric called “community assignments” where the player has full control over the difficulty, what map they get to play, and the special conditions. it’d be pretty nice i think.
