hi folks,
just a little brainstorming to pass the time.
how about a servo skull that takes one of your curio spots to have it do passive material pickups and offer different perks from the curios themselves.
yay or nay ?

Yes, curios is a boring mechanic.
Hell yeah, i want my own servo skull. Even if it doesnt give any bonuses and takes a curio slot. I’d sacrifice 15% toughness 5% hp and gunner damage reduction in favor of floating skull singing prayers to the omnissiah any day.
seriously tho, if they’d add it with a function i think the best fitting one for it would be automatic minigame completion. You’d still have to stand close to the objective, but you’d be able to defend yourself while the skull does the boring minigame/scans.
Also a proper floating flashlight.
like i said, just a little brainstorming on my end to pass the time.
i am glad you folks like the idea though.
stuff like that seems a great idea, by now we did the auspex a millionth time, could ease the tedium at the cost of a curio spot.
they dont need to come “naked” as well, same as curios the could bring different benefits like you said with the lights or tiny(not game breaking) combat gimicks. kite a nurgle beast for example so you get the rear.
and custom chassis should be self explaining pimp my skull, red goes faster
Depends if we get to put a top hat on it or not.
I like this idea
I would not mind curios being changed to be similar to vermintide where each one has a tangible ability followed by some lesser buffs, rather than just a major buff followed by minor ones, although i don’t know if i could willingly drop 17% toughness or an extra revive for auto-collection of materials (esp if multiple people bring it and the map is just auto-clearing lol)
Tbh I rather keep Servo Skull for a Blitz and a Keystone for the potential Tech Adept
I like the idea.
Why not have up to three and choose between curios and different kinds of servo skulls, like a combat one, a resources collector and maybe one with a different function.
maybe a very mild flying anti corruption effect if in vincinity
Could go with best of both worlds, make servo skulls available for all classes but only a tech adept would be able to use them to full potential. So for example if you really want a minigame autoresolve and a floating flashlight or whatever you can but if you want to to shoot at enemies as a mini-turret, apply auras with buffs to allies and debuffs to enemies then you have to use a tech adept.
And honestly using a curio slot for a tech adept would be much better then a blitz because with the curio thing you could equip 3 servo skulls. Yes you’d lose the boring toughness boosts but in exchange you’d get alot of very interesting variety of little helpers.
Imagine, locking down a choke point with 3 servo skull mini-turrets and using them like sienna’s skeletons. Or having 1 auspex auto solver, 1 small buffer for the allies and 1 small debuffer for the enemies.
Then you’d have a blitz slot open to make the 3 skulls even more special.
Think it’s a great idea.
Though as @Heretical_Cactus said, maybe save it for a specific class? For example, what’d happen if all 4 players had one? Would our floating skull buddies all be fighting one another to get there first to get the pickups?
I’d be happy to have a floating enemy “pinger” as a function, or something that shocks enemies. All based on the talent tree ofc.
still would take away from it
yeah, servo skulls would be drones for skitarii.
you could use it to hack terminals: attach the skull, then defend the terminal while it does its job, so you don’t need one guy to do this. all for the cost of the extra helth / toughness one curio slot gives.
the skull could attack a boss when released, briefly drawing aggro or disorienting it.
I want automatic plasteel pick up for all classes for free not sacrificing a curio for the hadron casino
Maybe we’ll get a rework where they will go back to the accessory slots being gadgets rather than the extremely boring defensive stat-sticks they are now.
I do like the idea that instead of having passive stats you can replace it with different type of curio that gives you some sort of effect that is not simple “x toughness”.
Passively collecting resources is one thing but we could very easily extend to this something like you spawn with ammo boxes at the start of the level or what @Pirx said about having skull doing objectives for you.
Could also extend this to team effects like giving team extra grenade slot or something if we really want to go experimental.
This is a fantastic idea.
One of my MAJOR issues with the game is that fetching pickups is the worst part, but you can’t expand your inventory without doing a TON OF IT.
Get rid of pickups entirely and give us a machine that does it for us, game improves 5000 percent. I like this idea so much I’m tempted to make 50000 sock puppets just to keep upvoting it.
(That said, it might be nice if it was not a curio slot but it’s own slot.)
thanks guys for all the replies and ideas to flesh out the concept.
now was this something the devs had in the pipeline at some point in time ?
could this be a thing in the future ?
