Server Instability Known Issue Update

Heyo Everyone,

Since releasing the latest hotfix (1.4.10), we’ve received increased reports of server instability. We’re aware of it, and we’re working on a fix. Once it’s ready, we’ll deploy it ASAP.

Thank you for your patience while the team works on it.

I must say, over the past 6 months, using a wired internet connection was a massive improvement for myself.
While this is most likely unrelated to whats going on under the hood and already mentioned in other places, I will emphasize this here.
OPT FOR HIGH SPEED ETHERNET, 1GBs

…no offense but I’ve already seen moderately extensive problems before the hotfix, and I was one of the people sitting pretty when things seemed to be burning down for everyone else.

Y’all really should look at how you’re running the show. Dedicated servers might not be worth it at this point.

The only instability I have played with are from console players, hopefully this gets smoothed out by the 15th for the event!

I hope we’re getting a fix for the constant and multiple crashes every match at some point

I was going to say, I have read lots of reports lately of crashing, loss of connection lately on these forums alone. I don’t normally play more than 1 - 3 missions in a sitting but I have noticed the longer you are in a session, the more likely problems are to arise, seems like

I was thinking about checking out sneakrinda in the darkness to stalk for new VO lines. May as well if the servers are up to shenanigans.

there were also quite a few re-introductions of localization errors for blessings, as if this was a fix from an old build or something

The new event sounds interesting. Kudos for adding something. I look forward to trying it out. Though the rewards do not sound that enticing to me really.

But if this has introduced even more disconnects, CTDs, CT Character Selection, Out of Memory crashes then you are going the wrong direction and need to roll back. My internet is a 600Mb wired ethernet, in a metro area. I should not be getting so many crashes/DCs playing this game. This has occurred since the last couple of event updates. Prior to that my gameplay had been pretty stable for a long time.

I hear y’all and it is frustrating. And I’ve been trying to chase this. We haven’t seen an increase of reports from players about these server issues. I’ve seen comments, but that’s harder to contextualize.

I know y’all are probably getting tired of me saying this but: I ask y’all to please submit these issues in the Technical Issues channel so we can better contextualize these issues. When is it happening? What device are you using? Is it every time? etc. This helps the most.

We’ve caught this and it’s a known issue. We have found the reasoning. It will be coming in another hotfix. It has to do with the way we are pulling strings of text into the game.

Thank you for making this thread. It is incredibly important that Fatshark begin to build trust by saying they’re going to do a thing and then doing that thing. You’ve been wonderful, Strawhat, this would ordinarily not even end up spoken of other than maybe in the comments following the next set of patch notes.

This thread is going to be full of frustrated people, of course, and generally justly so, although we here on the forums might sometimes express ourselves less politely than we like as a community.

However, I am concerned - at least in part - that it took this long for them to notice that Reddit, the forums, and Steam have all been regularly discussing the mounting server instability, including the numerical codes associated for some time now. 2001 and '06 and '14 are infamous at this point.

I’m not trying to cast aspersions on the response, of course, and neither should anybody else. It’s the right response. I’m not trying to blame you, either; some of these issues have been going on much longer than you’ve been in the driver’s seat, you’ve been an excellent communicator, and I trust you when you say you’ve been working on raising this. And you’re right, technical reports are much more convincing and useful and we should be submitting more of them more regularly.

But nobody here, on Reddit, or on Steam, has needed them to see that there is at least a significant problem with server stability, enough to have warranted a response weeks ago if not longer. Why has it taken Fatshark so long to say anything this loudly about server stability?

Most of the problems in this game have been there since launch. Frankly its embarrassing. How in the world are we still getting out of memory crashes 1.5 years later?

There’s no possible way your code can’t identify such an obvious memory leak in real time. Even Windows itself can identify scaling VRAM usage. At the very least you should be warning players in-game they are approaching the memory limit.

Don’t get me started on silent spawns. How 12 Crushers and 100 poxwalkers can materialize 2 feet behind you in less than 3 seconds realtime, making 0 sound, is beyond me.

funny thing as i typed this a few days ago, and now i am consistently getting stuck in the mission loading screen, relaunching the game seems to work less than half the time.
