none, it being a negative that makes players behave and play worse is enough reason to be against it for me.

Agreed, the FS forums are definitely not where I would go to poll the player base.
well i agree but i actually meant the subject was incomplete not the pool of replies, the questionnaire itself is incomplete, it only covers feels its got no input from actual affect or use.

I suppose that depends on how much you put into it. I can tell when I gave it my all, and in those games I truly feel great about the victory. Hell, there are times when I felt great about losing as well.
im not talking about our effort im talking about the games, im talking about what the game does to signify the victory. where the sweeping victory music the panoramic camera shots as we evac out of a warzone explosions and whatnot in the background . all this game gives us is the 4 characters wandering off.

it only covers feels its got no input from actual affect or use.
Indeed it’s more capitalistic in that people want scoreboard, how to implement it properly is too big a subject for simple poll no consensus would be reached in poll format.

im not talking
i think i see the “issue” here

about our effort
is the only thing i care about in games i play.
my performance, my improvement, my deficits that need fine tuning.

where the sweeping victory music the panoramic camera shots as we evac out
why would i watch a cutscene with the same fervor after getting doused in a shower of dopamine of my own making?
i dont want passive gratification or the “team pat” on the back “yeah WE did it” when i played on the verge of my physical possible and know there wasnt much left else to put into without collapsing from 5 cans of energy.
when i see one dude pulling off something truly inspiring, i take notes throughout the whole match, rewatch the gameplay and compare surprise surprise the ending score.
us 4 trotting to the shuttle isnt of any worth for further performance or in hindsight enjoyment of the cramping fingers and elevated heart rate.
i dont “consume” i “create”, dont need no fanfare but stone cold results

I can tell when I gave it my all, and in those games I truly feel great about the victory
romantizise “coop” all you like, most of the time you got 3 peeps with you as background audience while you play your frenzied best.
playerbase % alone indicate the vast majority being in the “lower” bracket.
ironically this isnt even a dunking on casuals, its just another, maybe fresh perspective, why scoreboard is important for performance seeking players and how they take gratification out of their blood sweat and tears they put in for 20-30 minutes.
no tiptoe to the shuttle hand in hand but clutching and carrying the match and feel absolute badass about it.

makes players behave and play worse
cant help but read from it: “dial back and let the casuals “feel good” until the brink of failing the match, racking up misplay after misplay”
no thanks, if i managed to clutch and carry the match, they should be grateful instead of jealous.
being envious even would help them kindle the fire to kick their own butts and finally improve, which would be a benefit for the whole playerbase.
but lets be honest, that aint gonna happen with the “its just a game bro” crowd.
So you are ALSO saying the reason is toxicity though. When people talk about why it doesn’t actually cause toxic behavior by comparing VT2 behavior to Darktide behavior, they’re not strawmanning, they’re directly refuting your argument.
Personally I think there realistically are cases where sometimes people change their decisionamking based on it. However, they also do it for the killfeed popups. If there was no killfeed popup, they’d do it for the elite kill sound (the woosh noise it makes). If there was no elite kill confirm sound, they’d do it for any kill marker. Then they’d do it for the gore animations. If there were no kill markers, no elite kill sound, no killfeed, no kill animations, people would probably wonder why the game shipped THIS unfinished.
Like, in games like Darktide, the actual feedback from your actions is a huge part in making the game feel good and interactive. Even the small stuff like the kill sounds or hitmarkers. I don’t think you can actually make a game in this genre that doesn’t encourage high-chasing players to just keep chasing the dopamine without it feeling like utter trash.

why would i watch a cutscene with the same fervor after getting doused in a shower of dopamine of my own making?
didnt say you would , think im being taken out of context here , i was saying the one thing a scoreboard did was bring in a substitute for the post game rewards other games do i then described how l4d2’s ending were better than darktide’s thats all.

i dont “consume” i “create”, dont need no fanfare but stone cold results
and they are your fanfare.

cant help but read from it: “dial back and let the casuals “feel good” until the brink of failing the match, racking up misplay after misplay”

against a very predictable and limited ai script? why not go for a real test?
see you bang on about taking yourself to limit of ability but you do it in a game where you play against an ai designed to be beaten
with 3 people helping you and define your success by doing better than them. and in all your examples you rely on them being bad to make you look good.
you see i cant help but read this as
you just sound like you cant cut it in a real pvp game to me.

So you are ALSO saying the reason is toxicity though.
No. been through it twice in this thread, don’t think a third will do any good.

No. been through it twice in this thread, don’t think a third will do any good.
I don’t think you have explained any of that, I think that all I’ve seen of you is denying reality so I’ll interpret it that way
For the record you keep saying “there are other real issues with it that aren’t toxicity” then when you’re asked what it is you keep saying “it will change player behavior for the worse”
You are describing hwat everyone else describes as toxicity, you just avoid using the word. Pure semantics
Let’s not forget about the compliments the other characters give you when you slaughter a bunch of enemies like “look at that ogryn go!” or “the zealot didn’t mean to be so brave” (love that one by the way) these are already enough to make players try to chase the most kills.
Yeah, notably most easily triggered by wasting ammo on hordes, too
And even without any indication whatsoever of who gets kills people would still chase kills because killing is fun.

you just sound like you cant cut it in a real pvp game to me.
you aint wrong on that, pushing 45 and having to work full time, i had to call it quits some years ago.
tell you what, as soon as i get full sponsorship and a load of meth i’m back into daily k/d increase until an early heart attack
fact also remains late 90s early 2000s i had my moments and being 1st at a tournament available at the time was a given.
luxury of having 14 hours a day training few months prior of course.
as for the “its only ai” , yeah it is and quite the majority suck at it.
a few dudes would agree beating certain single player games take more skill than 99% of the world population can ever even grasp.
take zeromaster doom nightmare runs for example.
belittle it all you want, the fundation is chosen by everyone else to be on the same page.
switching to pvp demands when convenient is like saying the best guitar player on the planet has no skill cause he has not beaten mike tyson under 5 rounds.
people here on the board discuss darktide skill and honestly what nowadays is considered pvp-skill in crap like cod with unicorn rainbow skins and corner camping… well lets say it leaves me unimpressed as well compared to say rapha in quake champions.
yes clutching and carrying against a.i takes skill, or everyone and his mother could pull it off left handed.
reality implies the majority cant, so there’s a skill ceiling in the game few reach.
they even had a score for dumping the biggest and bono won with over 100 curix
if southpark “did it” there MUST be something to it

Never understood the “it encourages toxicity” argument.
Because sweats expect more from people sometimes and casuals want to keep it casual, arguments usually boil down to scoreboard/contribution, casuals not wanting scoreboards negating this whole thing to begin with. But really, not having some kind of stat board doesnt make sense since it seems like DT isn’t going for casual play. Even with a statboard, casual play is still possible. The bigger problem is when casual players join up with sweats in harder levels and still treat it like a casual damnation game.

Yeah, notably most easily triggered by wasting ammo on hordes, too
LOL, but muh kills!
Aptly, this might be a case where an in-game scoreboard with ammo usage count might improve things, the ammo hog might reconsider their porcine tendencies, looking at you kickback-only ogryns (and fire shotty spammers of olde)!

looking at you kickback
no fair, my boomstick needs rashuns too
