Pretty much the only thing i don’t quite agree on. While yes, there is a difference between just being shot in the arm and having it completely blown off, still it is survivable as opposed to having the round explode in your chest and turning all your vitals to mush.
My solution? Just raise limb damage. To the point where let’s say crit is enough to hit that oneshot breakpoint for trash mob, but a usual hit will leave it with sliver of hp. (and having proper limb damage actually displayed on the model would be awesome, but that’s just wishful thinking)
remember the days when the vet had sustained fire, and you could lay waste to entire hordes of crushers and maulers without breaking a sweat? pepperidge farm remembers.
Limb shots are a mistake, and it should always count as body. Certain animations (like suppression ones) just make the enemy cover their heads, and through no fault or your own you will start getting limb shots. It’s BS.
I use an autogun on my vet lately, and whenever my ogryn friend uses his Kickback on/near reapers my TTK gets tripled from the suppression animation. Should I ask him to stop shooting?
“Hey stop, you shooting the trapper next to the reaper I’m firing at is increasing the time it takes for him to die.”
Dumb.
I mean I agree, but even if its infested I still think if I shoot a pox hound in the karking face it should drop in one shot from an exploding .75 round nurgle flesh be damned.
It’s absolutely irredeemable as a weapon if this isn’t fixed. I am calling it fixing it as well since I consider it a full on bug since purposely terrible game design might as well be a bug.
I’ve seen some reticule detachment on shotguns as well. I’ve never seen this in any other game. I don’t know how FS does it. They have the dumbest bugs, and they are allowed to exist for 100 times longer than they should.
They’d have to lower the multiplier vs unyielding with the “across the board damage buffs” to even it out to be around the same it is now, but yeah I agree.
For the love of God Emperor yes. If it’s going to have a slow draw time, and the level of recoil it has then it better one tap anything I hit in the head.
Iunno. Crushers already get ranged down a lot even currently. These changes would make the Bolter much more popular.
I think with all these changes you would need to cut the bolter ammo down by like 30-40 rounds.
Its reliability as a headshot weapon would go up despite what you said about it being thematically wrong being a marksman weapon, and used as such it would too ammo efficient.
Think revolver with 15 shots but slower draw time, and the option to delete a boss or crusher pack.
I do want this chunky boi to be really good though just not the only real choice.
That’s the reason why some people don’t want it back. Non vet players also want to have some fun, whenever horde of crushers shows up.
And some vet players want to have long term fun with the weapon too,
trivialization of it doesn’t help (At lest for me).
Using bolter at launch was fun, sure, but i think it wouldn’t last long.
because there was very little input required from player other than just carrying a weapon and see it lay waste to everything.
I dont actually care if this feature will be brought back, as long as current tree will be changed accordingly. As long as balance will be in check.
Not at all. Current ammo compounds to the feel-badness of Bolter as it is.
Ripper gun is (imho) the best comparison to bolter in terms of handling and dps and Ripper has almost double the base ammo.
You hit the nail on that one. That’s the most problematic aspect for me.
To quote Lexicanum: “Bolt weapons fire self-propelled mass-reactive shells known as bolts, which are timed to explode just after penetration for maximum lethality.”
Therefore, to do maximum damage, you ought to aim center-mass; not the head. That’s how I’ve been playing it, and I too have been disappointed by its performance.
Now, don’t get me wrong, a head-shot should be lethal. But a center-mass shot should be even more!
PS: I exclusively play Zealot and I don’t care about the Veteran. If buffing the Boltgun would make it “too strong” for the Veteran, just give the Veteran a different Boltgun.
Lore wise it’s supposed to be shooting mass reactive ammunition.
If I remember right it’s supposed to detonate versus heavier armor, but it doesn’t necessarily go off from hitting flesh.
The Plasma Gun has more ammo than the Bolter. I’m not asking for less Plasma Gun ammo, I’m asking for more Bolter ammo.
Seriously, the Bolter needs to have at least twice the amount of ammo that it has now. I don’t even expect a big damage buff for it, I just think that the Bolter needs some way to compete with the Plasma Gun without nerfing the Plasma Gun back into what it was on launch.
I do NOT want the Plasma Gun to just be a slower Bolter with an overheating function again…
There’s actually a really simple lore friendly solution to that. The bolter has tons of different ammo types. Kraken rounds etc…
Boltgun showed me the dream that is Kraken rounds.
would you pop the chamber open and insert the special round to use next shot just like shotguns?
boltguns are high profile weapons for ordinary humans, them having limited ammo supply is not necessarily bad - but their shots should hurt more to compensate.
perhaps enhanced punch-through possibility? like decoupling the kinetic damage and the explosive damage, and if the kinetic damage is enough to kill a target (whether outright or due to it being weakened by prior hits or hits from others) the round passes through and explodes on the terrain or enemies behind the target.
Be careful FS might nerf the revolver instead of buffing bolter.
No… The magazines would just be loaded with different types of ammo based on balancing needs.
I was thinking along the same lines; the plasma gun might catch a stray with all this balance talk.
isn’t depleted deuterium just hydrogen? Why are they filling bolter rounds with a tiny amount of hydrogen?
like different models of bolter would have differently behaving shots? or hitting a button changes the magazine’s contents to something else? or loads in a new magazine full of something else?
This one…
Shhh, don’t remind people that the writers don’t understand the physical sciences…
They literally thought “DON’TLOOKINTOITWE’VEPUTITINTHEFLUFFALREADY”
thanks for summoning me i guess but
dunno man this is my only complaint
about the damage on specials… there is a catch, you can do your 1 taps with exestance, but its the same for revolver
i’m no revolver guy, but to do those infamous one taps i’m pretty sure you need exe stance active, or wait untill you get a crit out of that surgical blessing
well its pretty much the same with the bolter, only you have 15 shots in your mag (which is bad, rulebook wise, but still amazing in game)
on the scoreboard revolver often wins because with the extra mobility you can start doing your damage before the others, and when the rest of the bunch arrives they find no more meat to shoot at, but this really don’t mean bolter is in any way shape or form inferior to the revolver, being able to 38k damage a boss in less than 3 seconds or clear entire rooms in a cuple of volley still put this weapon in S tear for me
if they fix the iron sight i believe it would become so strong that people would start asking for nerfs
