Request: Change the behavior of dodge + jump keybinds

The current behavior of having dodge + jump on the same keybind results in an interaction where you jump if you press the key while your dodge is in cooldown. However, there are so few, if not completely zero, scenarios in this game where you need to jump sideways/backwards, so I believe that the default behavior should be changed so that you NEVER JUMP when doing a sideways input + dodge/jump.

So, if the dodge is in cooldown and you do [sideways/backwards input] + [dodge/jump], your character should do nothing. Thus, the only way to jump will with a forward input only.

Players can trivially avoid this with a mod or by just separating them to different keys/buttons, but there will be players who won’t bother to tinker with their keybinds, so this is a simple change to improve the default keybinds without radically changing anything else.

And it’s not like you can mantle sideways or backwards

You can rebind both keys. I have dodge on space and jump on x. It prevents you from jumping when you run out of dodges.

You can change all the keybindings in the settings.

what mod would that be? cause this has been annoying the crap out of me

think I found it: “Stop accidental jumps”

I’m specifically talking about the consecutive dodge cooldown, not the 0.85s cooldown for when you’ve run out of efficient dodges.

And my main point is that there exist players who do not think about or tinker with their keybinds. It’s a simple change that is primarily a benefit to people who stick with default keybinds and is pretty much a straight upgrade with no meaningful downside.

One of my first recommendations to any player is to split the keybind. I use the same setup from my VT2 days, [space] is for dodge and [left alt] is for jump, and it continues to work just great.

Yes, but the default keybind is still kinda dumb.
The goal should be to have all default keybinds make sense.

It is possible to jump in all 4 horizontal directions, and while stationary (without horizontal directional input).
The default keybind does not allow you to make use of all directional jumps, and it can cause you to jump instead of dodging (when your timing is a tiny bit off).
Jumping prevents you from dodging until you land, and (if it happens accidentally) can quite easily lead to death.

The default should be a shared key for sprinting and dodging.
Sprinting and dodging together, cover all 4 directional inputs with no overlap.
You can only sprint forward and you can only dodge backwards and to the sides.
Sprinting can be stopped at any time and does not prevent you from dodging.
Both sprinting and dodging can be followed up with a slide.

Right, but there is still an issue with slower weapons (Eviscerations/Thunder hammers) if you bind spring and dodge on the same button, when dodge dancing and in the middle of the swing you’ll cancel your attack and it won’t do any damage. I’ve collected footage of this odd behavior at the release of the game and posted about it here, yet it is still there. Annoying as all hell.
