Yeah, I agree with that. Masozi is a pilot, not sure why she’s giving us missions. I don’t mind Alice’s so much because as you said she hijacked a mission, and Melk found out and threatened to turn her in, but later decided he could benefit from the mission as well so took a piece of her pie for his silence.
That was a creative mission so I enjoyed it.
Because she is probably much more than just a simple pilot.
She shares information she is not supposed to. She occasionally disobeys orders. She is questioned why she was flying her ship to place X without a mission. She has very suspect dialogues.
There has got to be more to her.
I definitely hope they expand on the story. With any luck GW’s will allow Darktide to have its own unique lore which compliments the 40k universe. I’m not talking about massive lore events like Cadia or Istvan III but an original story taking place on one of the Imperium’s countless planets. Absolutely.
And all we need to do is wait on the story to expand before we find out anything about it.
Maybe with the class rework finished they can start looking at that…
I’m seeing a lot of people saying that because its 40k the characters would be used to that level of horror, but you seem to forget its frequently mentioned that most planets in the Imperium think Astartes are a myth and that Xenos are boogeymen. The galaxy is huge, not every planet is a daily meatgrinder.
Also, Zola and Masozi are new recruits to the Warband, and were brought into the team due to the current disaster. They aren’t hardened Inquisitorial agents.
And seriously, Zola talks about how she used to see people queuing in the streets we’re advancing through, she knew these people. I’m supposed to believe she’s now blase and jaded to it all? I don’t buy it, its not an intentional design decision, its poor writing. I’d be more inclined to believe that a lot of the dialogue was rushed thanks to deadlines.
She also alludes to the horrific conditions she had to endure in those streets before she joined the warband. She talks about working under the cartels and needing to pick a side to survive. These are not things a person needs to do when life has been kind to them.
She also makes no secret of the fact that she isn’t our friend. I think Zola’s character is quite consistent with her backstory and current position.
She may seem consistent in that regard, but the voice lines and delivery are inane and out of place. Anyone who witnessed the utter destruction of their homeworld might show a little more… grit? Anger? Sorrow? Horror? Shock?
I don’t really see how her not considering us friends has anything to do with her mental state in being witness to the annhilation of her home hive. I think the writers wanted to make us believe shes “super tough” so she says mean things sometimes, and our characters regularly remind us that Zola is “strong and tough”. The Veteran saying “I wouldn’t mess with her”, the Ogryn saying “Zola is strong like Ogryn”. Such incredible writing, truly. /s
Add on top of that the happy-go-lucky Masozi voicelines and my suspension of disbelief is right out the window.
Yeah, writers often overcompensate when they try to write “strong” female characters.
That’s been the case for a good decade now. I like Zola but her character does lack depth.
Why do you think she’s supposed to care about the hive or the people who lived there? From what we know, she has no reason to think fondly of any of it and nothing that I can recall suggests that she does. People don’t always assign positive feelings to the places they’ve lived in or the people they lived with.
She’s also ‘seen some s**t’ in her time there, to put it lightly. I’ve met people irl that have experienced less than she has and have ended up completely disconnected emotionally from the world around them. I think the sentiment she displays toward the hive is pretty appropriate.
As for the characters giving the “zola strong” comments; The ogryn respects anyone who gives a good set of orders and she’s capable of executing the veteran on the spot with no consequences. You wouldn’t mess with that sort of person either.
I just want Morrow to VA every missions, since he’s my favorite. Especially now since there’s dialogue of him telling Melk to screw off and that we’re good.
No…completely and tottaly disagree entirely
I think that the voice lines are fine, a lot of them are even good. But it could be a toggle option if you want to hear them or not. I would have it on but noone would have to if they dont want.
What would be good in regards to this, if there was a strict identity to who assigns the mission.
I know they tried to go for that already, but it doesn’t always come properly through.
For instance Morrow’s / Zola’s Voicelines on interrogation stages only come up in some missions. In most it is still Hadron, even when she isn’t responsible for the mission.
The way it is now, it’s easy to lose track of the mission giver and all of it starts “bleeding into one” memory.
