Remove Tiers from Blessings

Each blessing should have only one rank.

Why?

  1. Less clutter. At max level, only the highest tier of each blessing even matters anyway.

  2. Less crafting pain. Having only one rank of each blessing would make it slightly more manageable to get the weapon and blessings you want, in addition to being less confusing for new players who could easily be overwhelmed with the complexity of the crafting system (which is a whole other issue in itself, but I digress…)

  3. Easier future balancing. Now you’d only need to look at the values for one rank of each blessing, not an entire set. It would also make it easier to compare the overall performance of each blessing available to a weapon type, for both players and developers.

  4. More refined game design. Remove the superfluous layers that add nothing to the enjoyment of the game. This change would make it easier to experiment with different builds, which is the fun part. Discarding worthless items to clean out an inventory is not enjoyable gameplay.

This change would not harm the levelling experience, since higher level weapons still come with improved stats. If anything, it gives new players a better taste of how different weapon types can perform if they have better access to blessings. This is especially true due to how wildly certain blessings can influence a playstyle (e.g toughness regen blessings, deflector).

The tiers are already pretty pointless anyway, except for like the 2 blessings where that extra 10-15% matters like thunderhammer which can get none of the breakpoints a shovel can have anyway. Already a trash weapon.

But yeah its a dumb obfuscation that they did something different from VT2’s items besides making acquiring them far worse. 2 trait- err blessings now and they have values like perks. This is your gameplay evolved, better hit up those vendors for +14 bleed stacks instead of +13…

Bleed stacks matter a lot. Difference between a 12 stack and a 16 stack is huge in terms of damage with how bleed works. It’s why a single shredder grenade does maybe 15% of a ragers health, but 2 shredders do over 50%.

My main issue with the blessing system is that certain blessings like Power Cyler 4 exist, and are vastly superior to their t3 version.

That or Surge is also a thing.

Some blessings don’t matter if you have the top tier, but others it does and either way both suck.

It’s just more RNG locked bullsh*t. The same core issue that has always existed with the crafting system since its implementation.

Then may you get only T1-T2 blessings, if they don’t matter to you.

The bad blessings are a lot less a waste than garbage like pox walker damage or sprint efficiency. Like do you notice that missing 2.5% on death spitter, or 5% on slaughterer. Or not killing a rager in 2 hits.

Spare me the already well articulated (by me) exception cases where T4 and not T3 will matter. As if it even matters anyway, Ironhelm is so much better than Crucis atm you can easily take 2-4 swings more to kill bosses. Blessing tiers is a dumb waste designed to trash more items. At least they had the decency to lock a bunch of decent ones to T3.

I also think they should remove blessing tiers, in the current games balance there is no reason for tier 1 or 2 blessings to exists, no one at level 30 uses them intentionally as you have to go out of your way to even acquire one because upgrading weapons gives you tier 3 or 4 anyway. You would need to buy a blue weapon from the shop and specifically not re-roll its blessing, which is not the intended loop of the current crafting system of “being able to have agency and purpose with your weapons”

Just gonna leave this picture from their crafting blog here

I’m waiting for them to eventually do a blessing overhaul and hopefully throw some of them out entirely.

They are all just mostly boring “+damage / power / stagger for holding your spoon sideways for 4 seconds” type stuff. I wish we would have stuff that made enemies explode or electrified surrounding enemies or did anything that wasn’t just a bland stat increase. The closest we get is Showstopper which explodes killed elite and special enemies but that’s about it.

I agree that some of the blessings still need changing or even discarding. It would be better to have three or four solid choices per weapon that all have their niche, rather than having 10 blessings of which only a few are worth taking.

Having only one rank per blessing would make it easier to compare them, as well as saving a bit of time for developers when crunching the numbers for new blessings.

Upboated.

Blessing tiers are the vestigial remnant of the original idea where you would combine blessings to make ones of higher tier. In the current implementation they serve no purpose.

Also, yeah, we need more ‘change how the weapon works’ blessings. Adhesive Charge is a good example.

I’m curious if Fatshark will ever “finish” crafting or if we’ll have to make due with what we have.

As I’ve already stated, if it were up to me, we wouldn’t have any crafting except for the ability to experiment with Blessings.

Moving % variables back and forth is as uninteresting as the perks and serves no function other than to increase “player engagement” (I despise this word).
